BK 5 - Chapter 68 - The Future
Penelope ran around to each family member as she sobbed. None of them would wake up. When she found her parents she shook them.
"Mommy, Daddy please wake up. It's okay now, the toad is dead." She said as she continued shaking their shoulders.
"Penelope," She heard a gentle voice and jumped up. When she turned around there was a beautiful woman with long shimmering silver hair wearing a blue dress.
"Who are you?" Penelope asked as she cried.
"I'm Selene, the Moon Goddess. Sweetheart, your family isn't dead, they're just sleeping. They will wake up when we leave," Selene took a few steps toward her, and Penelope backed away.
"No, I don't want to go with you. I want to stay with my family." She said, taking a few more steps back.
"She's talking about me." Penelope looked at the man who came from behind Selene. He had a dark tan and thick black hair.
"Who are you? Why is everybody sleeping and not me?" She asked them. Her wolf, Silver, was proud of Penelope for being so strong and brave. She was going to be a great leader one day.
"I'm Satan. They're sleeping because the power you used to kill Leviathan was too much for them. Your power is the strongest that has ever been seen on Earth." Satan explained. Penelope didn't understand. Why was she given power?
"Why?" She asked them. Selene walked over and squatted down in front of her.
"What happened here today was only the beginning. The battle between good and evil isn't over. We have to do whatever we can to protect those who live on Earth. You, my sweet little pup, are going to be a powerful leader. Even more powerful than the King and Queen. You will live a normal life, find your mate, and have an important career working among humans. When the time comes for you to use the power we have given you, others will join you. We can't stop what's coming, but we can help you prepare. I know this is a lot for you, and it doesn't make sense right now, but Silver will help you." Selene explained as she stroked Penelope's head.
"I can stay with my family, right?" Penelope asked. She didn't understand everything Selene said, but she knew enough to understand that when she grew up, there would be another battle.
"Yes, you can stay with your family." Selene stood up, and Satan walked over to them.
"It's time for us to go now, but remember we'll always be watching, and we'll help you when we can," Satan said, pulling on one of her curls.
"Okay, I want my family to wake up. Bye," Penelope waved at them as she turned to her parents. Selene and Satan chuckled as they watched her. Penelope would be five soon, yet she was by far the most powerful being anyone had ever seen. She was also the sassiest.
After Selene and Satan left, the werelion family began waking up. Penelope was relieved when she saw them standing and looking around.
"What happened?" Emma asked as Leviathan and the men he brought with him began turning to ash. Penelope hugged her parents and waited until everyone was awake to say anything.
"I killed Leviathan and made you go to sleep. Selene and Satan came to see me and said that I am more powerful than anyone, even the King and the Queen. They said there will be another battle when I'm big." Penelope tried to remember what Selene and Satan had told her. Everyone stared at her in shock.
"Are you serious?" Roger asked her. Penelope smiled and nodded as Grandma Cat hugged her.
"They also said I get to watch anyone else who meets their mate mark each other." Penelope started laughing when she saw their stunned expressions. "I'm just kidding, but if anyone else does meet their mate I want to watch. I think that should be my prize for killing the old toad."
"Penny," Penelope looked over and saw Gabi running toward her. She hugged the little cub.
"I definitely think you deserve to have a big birthday party next week," Emma said as she lifted Penelope and put her on her hip.
"Can everyone stay for my birthday?" She asked, looking around at all the newcomers.
"We're all family, so of course they'll stay," Cat said. Trey put his arm around her shoulders. They were concerned about what Selene and Satan were preparing Penelope for. They also knew the more the supernatural world mixed with the human world, threats would continue coming.
Once those from the underworld were gone the earthquakes stopped, and the humans began returning to their homes. Some that had stayed behind told their neighbors what they had seen, but even they weren't sure they hadn't been seeing things. People began to realize there was more to the large family in Granite Bay than they thought. They didn't know what, but they were definitely not the typical large family.

**One Week Later**
Everyone laughed as Penelope and Gabi tried to sing karaoke. They were having Penelope's birthday party at the family home. It was the only place that had enough room for everyone. Chantra and her brothers no longer wanted to live on the mountain away from everyone else, they wanted to stay with the werelions. Their mates were more than happy to stay as well.
"Okay, everyone we're going to do another song," Penelope announced from the stage that her uncles made. She pushed a button on the machine and the song Baby Got Back by Sir-Mix-Alot began to play. When Penelope began to sing everyone started laughing so hard they had tears running down their faces.
"I like big boots, and I cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny." Penelope stopped singing when the laughter got louder.
"Why are you laughing? That's how Puss in Boots sings it on *Shrek*." She asked them.
"You did great, honey. We just weren't expecting that song." Jade said as she walked over to the pup and cub. Gabi giggled looking around at everyone. She had no idea what was going on but she loved being around so many people. Sherri and Shaun were happy to be there as well and had no plans to leave any time soon.
"I think it's time for Laurie to sing for us," Penelope said holding the microphone out to her aunt. Laurie stood up and walked to the small stage. She had been practicing a song and thought it would be perfect. She just hoped everyone else agreed.
"I actually have a song that I've wanted to sing for a while. It's one that Grandma Cat told me had a lot of meaning for her when she first met Grandpa Trey. Many in our family came from bad situations, and even though that made you all strong, you're not alone anymore. You have all of us. The song I'm going to sing is *Rescue* by Lauren Daigle." As the music started, Cat's tears streamed down her cheeks. It was the first song that spoke to her and described how she felt when Trey and his team helped her. They had all passed away over the years, but what they did for her still lived with her every day.
*You are not hidden
There's never been a moment
You were forgotten
You are not hopeless
Though you have been broken
Your innocence stolen*
*I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS, your SOS*
*I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night
It's true, I will rescue you*
*There is no distance
That cannot be covered
Over and over
You're not defenseless
I'll be your shelter
I'll be your armor*
*I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS, your SOS*
*I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night
It's true, I will rescue you
I will never stop marching to reach you
In the middle of the hardest fight
It's true, I will rescue you*
*I hear the whisper underneath your breath
I hear you whisper, you have nothing left*
*I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night
It's true, I will rescue you
I will never stop marching to reach you
In the middle of the hardest fight
It's true, I will rescue you*
*Oh, I will rescue you*
