BK 5 - Chapter 14 - Meeting Marcy
Samantha looked from Milo to Cat in shock. Who is Marcy? She looked back at Milo, who was still holding her hand. She couldn't believe she had a second chance mate.
"I'm sorry, who is Marcy?" Samantha asked. Cat smiled and sat down while Milo remained standing and holding her hand.
"I believe she is your daughter. We took her in just a little over a week ago when one of her friends who lives here told me that her grandfather was hurting her. I called the police, and we had her removed from his care. She's been here ever since. Milo and Marcy have gotten close. He's the only one she's trusted enough to open up to." Cat looked at Milo, who was still staring at Samantha in shock. He had heard about shifters feeling sparks when they touch their mates. Did that mean Marcy's mom was his mate?
"You have my daughter?" Samantha began crying, and Milo didn't think he just acted. He sat next to her and wrapped his arms around her. It felt natural holding her as though his arms were made to hold her. Samantha hugged him back as she cried. After four years, she had finally found Dina.
"Is her grandfather still in jail?" She asked, looking at Cat while clutching Milo.
"No. He died of a heart attack soon after being locked up." Cat replied. That was a death none of them would mourn.
"Good. I'm glad he's dead. Where's Dina now?" Samantha asked while her tears continued to fall.
"She's in school. She may prefer that you call her Marcy because that's the only name she remembers. She just got her wolf yesterday when we had a birthday party for her. We now realize she's older than we thought, thanks to her wolf. Her grandfather was giving her wolfsbane to keep her wolf away. I want to be honest with you. We don't believe she was molested, but when we got her, she was covered in bruises. She was scared of everyone until Milo came to us a few days ago." Cat looked at Milo, who still hadn't spoken. Samantha was stunned that not only had she found her daughter and second chance mate, but they were already close.
"Can I stay here until she gets home from school?" Samantha asked, moving away from Milo slightly. Cat smiled and patted her shoulder.
"You can stay here as long as you'd like. We have plenty of room, and I think it would be good for all of you to be in a neutral place to get to know each other." Cat replied. Samantha stared at her and was sure she was dreaming. Was this woman real? She had never met anyone like Cat.
"That would be great as long as it's not an inconvenience," Samantha said. Cat put her arm around her shoulders.
"No inconvenience at all. Come with me, I'll show you to a room. After that, Milo, would you like to show her around?" Cat winked at him, and he felt his face turn red.
"Sure," He replied. He reluctantly let Samantha go so she could follow Cat. Milo wondered what she thought about having a human as a mate. He wasn't an average human because he knew about shifters, and his sister was a vampire. He couldn't believe Marcy's mom was his mate or that he even had a mate at all.
Samantha followed Cat upstairs and to a large bedroom. She was still in shock that she'd found Dina.
"Are you okay?" Cat asked. She wanted to give Samantha some breathing room. She knew it was probably a lot for her to find Marcy and her second chance mate all in one go.
"To be honest, I feel numb. I had hoped you would have information on Dina, I mean Marcy, but I expected to be disappointed again. Then, to find out that I have a new mate and he's already close to my daughter, it's a lot to take in." Cat led her over to the bed and sat with her on the side.
"I understand. That's why I wanted to talk to you alone for a minute. I'm sure you've already picked up that Milo is human. However, he knows about shifters and everything else. He was raised by a man who tortured people like us. He came here because he wanted to find out where he came from and find a purpose in life. Marcy took to him the first time they met. We had been trying to get her to talk for days without pressuring her, but she wasn't ready. The first day he was here, she sat on Milo's lap and told him all about her grandpa. They have helped each other, and I know this is overwhelming, but when you see them together, I think you'll agree the three of you were brought together for a reason." Cat held Samantha's hand as she talked. She wanted to give her as much support as she could offer.
"Thank you. Do you think Milo will be okay being my mate? I was mated to Marcy's dad before his own father killed him, so I thought my heart belonged to him. I never dreamt that another man would come into my life." Samantha looked down. She would always love Duncan, but she could feel herself already yearning to be with Milo.
"I think you're exactly what he's been looking for. His half-sister is a vampire, and we just found out that I'm his aunt, so if he gives you any trouble, you send him my way." Samantha smiled at Cat before hugging her. Maybe staying with them for a little while is just what she needed.
"Thank you. What about Marcy? Do you think she'll be okay with me showing up like this? Does she even know about me?" Samantha asked. She couldn't wait to see her and hold her in her arms, but after what Cat said, she knew she would have to take it slow.
"I don't know what he told her about you, but we've talked to her about finding her parents, and she was excited about it. However, last night, when we were explaining werewolves to her, she said if we didn't find her mommy and daddy, could Milo be her daddy. So I think she'll be happy that the three of you could be a family." Cat answered her. Samantha sighed in relief. A family. Was she finally going to have a family? "Now, let's go back downstairs so Milo can show you around. Marcy gets off the bus around three, so that will give you both some time to talk before she gets here."
They went back down to the kitchen, and Milo was still sitting where they left him. He stood when he saw the two women.
"I'll let you know when lunch is ready," Cat said while almost shoving them out the door. She watched them as Trey came up behind her.
"Who's that with Milo?" He asked, kissing Cat's forehead.
"Marcy's mom. She found us, and she's also Milo's mate." Cat looked up at Trey, who was looking at her in disbelief.
"Wow, that's great on both accounts." They watched the young couple walking through the yard.
"Cat said you just came here a few days ago," Samantha said as they walked. Milo glanced at her and nodded.
"Yeah. Can I ask you something?" He turned to her so he could look into her eyes.
"Yes," Samantha replied, stopping.
"I know you just found your daughter. I also know those sparks when we touched mean I'm your mate, but you haven't said anything. Do you not want me as a mate because I'm human? I just want to prepare myself if you're going to reject me. I've heard they can be brutal." Milo watched as her eyes got wider and wider. Samantha shook her head.
"No, I'm not going to reject you. I didn't say anything because I thought maybe you wouldn't want to be my mate. I was mated to Marcy's dad, but his father killed him. I didn't think I would have a second chance, mate; I never let myself even think about that because I was focused on finding my baby. Milo, I'm not going to reject you, but are you going to reject me?" Samantha held her breath as she waited.
"I won't reject you. I'm glad you mated before you met me because it gave you Marcy. She's such a beautiful little girl. She's what kept me sane since coming here. I can't wait to get to know both of you better." He reached out and took Samantha's hand. She smiled up at him while walking into his arms. Everything was going to be okay now; she just knew it.
Samantha and Milo spent the day together, talking about any and everything. They were both anxiously waiting for Marcy to get off the bus. They decided to let Cat get her and bring her to the backyard so they could have some time alone without anyone else around.
Milo stood next to Samantha with his arm around her as they waited. A few minutes later, the back door flew open, and Marcy ran out. He could feel Samantha shaking next to him as she started crying. Marcy stopped a few yards away when she realized Milo wasn't alone. She looked Samantha up and down.
"Who are you?" She asked, glaring at Samantha.
"Marcy, this is Samantha. She's your mother," Cat said. Marcy looked from Cat to Milo and then to Samantha.
"You're not taking me away from here. I want to stay with Milo."
