BK 5 - Chapter 66 - Silver

As the earthquakes shook the West Coast, the werelion family prepared themselves for the fight of their lives. Several wolf packs in the area sent their warriors to assist with the fight. A few witches and vampires also came to help. With so many earthquakes scaring people, many had left the area to go to the surrounding states. News reports predicted that the entire state of California was going to fall into the ocean. When the earthquakes stopped everything was eerily calm. The werelion family knew those from the underworld were now on Earth and coming for them.

*“It looks like I showed up just in time,”* Penelope looked around to see who was talking. She was sitting on Isla’s lap as everyone discussed the coming fight.

“Who said that?” Penelope asked looking around again.

“Who said what?” Nathan asked where he sat with his arm around Isla. They had become increasingly close since marking each other. Isla had decided she was ready to do more with Nathan than just sleep in his arms and kiss him, but she wanted to wait until after the battle with the underworld.

“Somebody said they showed up just in time. Who was it?” Penelope asked again. Everyone looked around but there was no one new.

*“I’m not out there. I’m inside of you. I’m your wolf, and my name is Silver.”* Penelope’s eyes widened. She suddenly jumped off of Isla’s lap and ran to her parents, Bailey and Tom.

“I have my wolf and her name is Silver but my birthday isn’t until next week,” she squealed with delight as she twirled around.

“Are you sure you have your wolf?” Bailey asked her daughter as she lifted her into her arms. Silver growled lightly inside of Penelope while the little pup giggled.

“See, I told you I had my wolf.” No one spoke as they stared at her. They didn’t know what would cause a pup to get their wolf early, but they all feared it had something to do with the underworld coming.

*“Wow, we can really quiet a room, can’t we? Tell everyone to stay calm. I am here to help. Penelope, I was given to you by Selene, the Moon Goddess. She wanted you to have a wolf that could give you the power you will need now and in the future. We can help defeat the underworld.”* Penelope looked around at everyone smiling.

“Silver said to stay calm. Selene, the Moon Goddess gave me her so I can have power. She said we’ll defeat the underworld so you can all relax.” Penelope cracked her neck like she’d seen Karalee do when she was preparing to spar.

*“That’s not exactly what I said, but close enough. Have your mom put you down so we can show them what you can do.”* Silver mindlinked her.

“Mommy put me down. Silver said we need to show you something,” Bailey did as she said, and Penelope walked to the center of the crowded yard. Everyone watched as Penelope began spinning quickly until she was a blur of light. She then rose into the air while still spinning like a small tornado. When she stopped, she held her hands to the side, and lightning bolts appeared. She threw them to the back of the property hitting a tree, causing it to go up in flames. Penelope slowly returned to the ground and crossed her arms.

“Any questions?” She asked smugly. The entire family looked at her with their mouths open, unable to speak. No one had seen anyone do anything like that before. Silver was laughing in her head. She already loved Penelope and her sassy attitude. The pup didn't know it yet, but she was going to have an eventful future ahead of her where some of these new powers would be needed.

“I always knew you were special, but this is unbelievable,” Cat said walking over to her with a smile. Penelope ran into her arms giggling.

“Did you see me up in the air throwing lightning?” She asked excitedly. Cat lifted her and kissed her little cheek.

“So I guess my plan to have you stay with the little ones just went out the window,” Bailey said. Penelope turned and narrowed her eyes.

“You can’t keep me hidden away. I have to fight those evil monsters. They should know better than to mess with my family.” Despite all the fear everyone felt, they began laughing when Penelope jumped out of Cat's arms and started practicing fighting stances.

“It looks like we have a secret weapon,” Alex said as he lifted Penelope tossing her in the air and sitting her on his shoulders. She nodded as she looked down at everyone.

“That’s right. I’m a secret that no one knows about. I’m no longer a princess. I’m a secret agent and Gabi is my partner.” Sherri looked at her daughter who laughed happily as she waved at Penelope. What would the next generation face? She wasn’t sure, but she also didn’t want to think about it. One battle was enough to deal with.

“Alright, now that we have the secret agent on our side I think we all agree that we have lots of fighting power. We won’t know what we’re dealing with until they get here. The good news is that everyone in this area has cleared out, so there should be no or few witnesses. We’re saving Earth so we don’t care if the humans see something they’ve never seen before. Right now protecting life as we know it, is all that matters.” Emma said as everyone cheered. The cheering stopped suddenly when the sky turned dark, and there were loud claps of thunder.

“Kiersten, take the kids into the house,” Cat said. It had been decided that Kiersten would stay with the kids in her bear form so she could mindlink everyone while they fought. Sherri handed Gabi to Kiersten, and Krystal carried Johan into the house. Once they were settled, and Kiersten had shifted into Malia, Krystal returned to the others.

The thunder continued to get louder making the ground shake. When a man appeared in front of the family he smiled evilly. He was tall and thin, wearing a black cloak with a hood that left his face in partial shadow. From what they could see of it, he was hideous with a long-crooked nose and warts.

“Hello, my dear werelion family. It's a pleasure to finally meet you after such a long time preparing. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Leviathan. Most in the underworld know me as the demon of Envy. On Earth, I'm considered grotesque, but from where I come from, I am quite handsome.” He spoke with a voice that sounded like gravel.

“I thought we were fighting monsters, not toads,” Penelope said from Alex’s shoulders. Leviathan glared at her.

“You will mind your elder’s young lady. A pup’s place is to be seen and not heard. You have no place in this fight.” No one liked the way he was looking at Penelope, but she didn’t back down.

“I'm special, and I will kill you. You shouldn’t have messed with my family,” Penelope yelled at him.

“How dare you speak to me like that? I'm a demon and many centuries older than you. You're nothing more than a pest,” Leviathan couldn’t believe he was wasting his time arguing with a pup, but he couldn’t let her win.

“Can a pest do this?” Silver had Penelope throw a lightning bolt at him so quickly he didn’t have time to move as it pierced through the hood of his cloak. A small fire erupted as he quickly removed the cloak tossing it to the ground. Leviathan turned back to Penelope, and instead of being angry, he was smiling.

“Well, little pup, you deserve more respect than I thought. That's why I'll kill you myself.” Leviathan clapped his hands loudly, and men began appearing behind him. The family looked at them in fear as they kept coming. The same question was on everyone’s mind. Would they be able to stop them before they killed their entire family?
