BK 4 - Chapter 45 - The Last Seven
Trey had everyone repeat what they had done at the first house. However, this one was different because the man inside was alone and passed out drunk. Trey decided to tie him up and take him with them. They would gather as many as possible and kill them all at once.
The next three houses were the same. The men were home alone. They fought and didn't want to be taken but weren't given a choice. Based on what Trey and the others found in the houses, they knew whoever lived with the men wouldn't miss them. They were all true monsters that had been terrorizing their families or other children for years. The family was getting justice for everyone they had hurt.
After killing and disposing of the four men, they moved on to the next house. The man there didn't fall for the hunter's trick and ran out the back door as soon as they knocked. Trey was there to greet him. When they went inside, they realized why he had tried to run. He had an unconscious teenage girl tied up in one bedroom. Travis looked at the girl in horror and started beating the man Saxon had restrained. Cat put her hand on his shoulder to calm him down.
"I don't know how you do this. How can you see the horror they put these children through and not let it get to you?" He asked. They had seen some terrible things in the past couple of hours, both in person and in photos they had found in the houses. The hunter's hearts were heavy, realizing how good this family was to help humans, even when they were being hunted.
"It's not easy, and it does get to us, but knowing we helped these children and women out of a bad situation makes it worthwhile. Typically, we don't kill the monsters ourselves. We let the prisons take care of them after we leak what they've done. These men are special. They're not only monsters, but they threatened our family, manipulated all of you, and killed Roger. They're the scum of the earth." Cat spoke softly, but with such hatred, it made the hunters shiver. She really was one not to be messed with.
"Thank you for letting us participate and see what you do. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we want to help you, so we will do whatever you need us to do. Even after this ends, we will volunteer at the group homes or help in any way we can. Thank you for showing us how amazing your family truly is." Travis spoke with tears still running down his face. He wasn't an emotional man, but after seeing everything he'd seen today, he felt ashamed that he had planned to kill this remarkable family.
"We can always use the extra help, and after this, I think it's safe to say you're part of our family now. Let's finish this so we can get back home." Cat said, looking at Trey. That was when the hunters understood how things worked in the family. Trey may be the muscle, but it was Cat who was in charge. She really was incredible.
Once the man was loaded in the vehicle, Cat called for an ambulance to take the girl to the hospital. The hunters wondered what Cat told the EMTs about how the girl was found. Lisa saw the men looking at her grandmother in awe.
"She has contacts everywhere. Grandma Cat knows who to call that will help someone without asking too many questions and keeping our involvement quiet." Lisa winked at them and giggled. She knew her grandma was a force to be reckoned with.
They pulled up to the next house and saw a man sitting on the porch. This was the last house they needed to visit before they went to Neal's. He was the one Trey couldn't wait to get his hands on. They decided to wait and see what the man was doing before approaching. They didn't want to cause a scene and have the neighbors call the police. The man was on the phone, and after hanging up, he locked the house door and got into a car.
"Let the others know we're going to follow him," Trey said as he pulled away from the curb. Cat quickly texted the vehicles behind them. Trey didn't think the guy was smart enough to even realize he was being followed, and based on his driving, he was right.
When they got onto the highway, they continued following him to Roseville. It seemed like they were going toward Cat and Trey's house. When the man stopped down the street from their home, they watched him get out of the car and into an SUV sitting a little further down the road. Trey had a feeling Neal was in that vehicle. He was glad he had the family go to Roger and Valerie's as a precaution.
"Text the others. If the men get out of the vehicle, I want Thatcher and Saxon to grab them and put them in the back of the SUV." Trey said. Cat texted and received an okay from both Thatcher and Saxon.
"Why would they come to our house in the middle of the day?" Cat asked angrily.
"I don't know, but whatever their reason, I'm glad we were already on to them." Trey was on the verge of pulling the two men out of the vehicle when they saw the two doors open. They seemed to disappear after only taking a few steps. Thatcher and Saxon had already grabbed them, knocked them out, and put them in the back of the SUV before anyone could blink.
"Tell them to follow us. We're going deep into the forest because we have special plans for those two and the one in the back." Trey pulled out, and everyone followed him. He started driving toward the Tahoe forest. It was a little out of the way, but it had a lot of areas where humans didn't venture. They got out when they had driven as far as their vehicles would allow up the partially hidden road.
"We'll hike the rest of the way. Are you men coming?" Trey asked the hunters. They all nodded, even though they felt slightly unsure about what they would witness.
An hour into the hike, when the humans were near exhaustion from the rough terrain, they found a clearing. Thatcher, Trey, and Saxon threw the three men to the ground hard. They grunted and started rolling around. When the men opened their eyes, they sat up and looked around.
"What the fuck is this? A freak show intervention?" Neal asked, trying to stand. Jade walked over and kicked him hard in the stomach, sending him flying against a tree. Bill smiled at her proudly. He was pleased she was his mate and that he wasn't on the other end of that kick.
"Don't talk about my family like that, you cockroach," she yelled at him. Neal stood up, holding his stomach and staring at Jade.
"You're a cute little thing. Why don't you come over here with me." Thatcher, Janel, and Jade got ready to attack him, but Bill was already there. He punched him in the face, breaking his nose.
"Don't you ever speak to her like that again," He shouted at Neal. Thatcher and Janel watched in disbelief as Jade beamed at her mate. She didn't typically take it well when someone stood up for her, but she looked at Bill like he'd just handed her a star out of the sky.
"You fucking freaks can't do this to me. Don't you know who I am? I'm with the FBI." Neal screamed at them. The other men hadn't moved or made a sound. Trey walked over to Neal, put his hand around his throat, and lifted him off the ground.
"You're nobody. All we see is a piece of wasted flesh. Now, tell me exactly what you did to Roger." Trey asked through clenched teeth. Neal struggled, but Trey's hold on him was too strong.
"I don't know what you're talking about." The others could hardly hear him because of Trey's tight hold.
"I think you do. We know you tricked Tori and Ryan into working for you. They told us that you killed Roger," Trey squeezed tighter, only loosening his grip when he saw Neal was about to pass out.
"I knew we shouldn't have trusted them. Mick was screwing the girl behind her boyfriend's back and said we could trust her. I knew if we killed Roger, your whole family would come running. It was the only way to get you all into one place. Those hunters were supposed to be our pawns, so once everyone was killed, it would all be blamed on them." Neal tried to laugh, but Trey's grip tightened again.
"How did you kill him?" Trey asked. He was shaking with so much anger Atlas was ready to come out and rip Neal's head off. Roger was the only real father figure he'd had.
"It was easy. Roger liked to go to the same coffee shop three times a week. We took turns showing up and slipping a little ricin in his drink, not enough to kill him, just make him sick. We wanted to spread it out so it looked natural and no one would detect it." Trey threw Neal on the ground. He didn't need to hear any more from him or the other men. Trey stood the three men up and looked them in the eyes.
"Let's see how long you last in a game we like to call fetch the scumbags."
