BK 3 - Chapter 54 - Heat and Marking
"I don't want pink. I want green." Lisa said as Alex handed her a pink paint sample.
"What color do you like, Alex?" Saxon asked him while Lisa moved over to the different shades of green with Melanie. They were going to let the cubs decorate their rooms however they wanted. After a lifetime of having nothing that was truly theirs, Melanie and Saxon wanted them to have a space that was all their own.
"I think I like the blue. Can I have one wall that's white so I can draw a picture on it myself?" Alex asked hopefully.
"You like to draw?" Saxon questioned.
"Yes. When I was good in the cage, they would sometimes give me paper and crayons to draw with." He answered shyly.
"That's great. This is your room, so make it how you want. If you want a white wall to decorate, then that's what we'll do. You know your aunt Kitty likes art too. She's a painter." Lisa skipped over, holding Melanie's hand with three shades of green paint samples in her other hand.
"I'm going to take these to the house to see which one I like the best." She said happily.
When they had finished getting paint samples, they looked at lamps. They all picked lamps for their bedrooms and a couple for the living and family rooms. Before going to the home improvement store, they had stopped at a furniture store and bought everything they would need when they moved in. Alex wanted bunk beds, while Lisa wanted a full-sized bed. As they were leaving the store, Saxon's phone rang.
"Hello," He answered.
"Hi Saxon, this is Diana. I wanted to let you know that we were able to complete all the inspections, appraisal, and title search. There has only been one owner of the house, and it was well taken care of, so everything checked out. We should be ready to close in one week if that will work for you and your family." Saxon hid his smile as they got to their car. Valerie and Roger said they could continue staying at the pool house until they closed on their house. So Saxon had gone to his parents and picked up his car so they would have a way of getting around.
"That sounds great. Thank you." He answered, looking away from Melanie and the cubs so they wouldn't see his excitement.
"Who was that?" Melanie asked.
"Oh, that was just Diana. She said we could close on the house in a week." He answered nonchalantly. Saxon started laughing when Melanie and the cubs looked at him with their mouths open.
"We can close in a week?" Melanie asked. When he nodded, they all jumped on him, laughing with excitement. They decided to go out and celebrate for lunch while planning their move. When they were on their way back to the pool house, Melanie began to feel hot. At first, she didn't know what was happening.
*"You're going into heat. You need to get back quickly and tell the cubs they'll have to stay with Valerie for a few days."* Chika said excitedly. She knew their first heat would be coming soon.
"Uh, Saxon. I'm going into heat," Melanie said softly, looking at him wide-eyed. He stared at her in shock as he continued driving.
"What? Now? How?" Saxon couldn't form complete sentences. He was nervous and excited at the same time.
"Uh, oh. I guess that means we'll be staying with Grandma and Grandpa. At least it's happening now and not when we're moving to the new house." Lisa said from the back seat. Melanie looked at her in disbelief while her face flamed from both the heat and what her daughter said.
"As soon as it's over, we'll come and get you," Melanie said as they pulled through the gate. She was doing everything she could not to jump on Saxon. He quickly ran into the house and explained to Valerie and Roger what was happening before getting Melanie from the car and carrying her to the pool house.
"I can walk," She said, laughing.
"Yeah, but I'm faster." He said, moving at lightning speed, taking her to their bedroom. Saxon had never seen anyone in heat, but he was ready to get Melanie through it. If she got pregnant, that would be even better. They may have a little cub or vampire on the way in a few days.
______________
Wesley walked into his and Mindy's bedroom with a smile. He had been downstairs when Saxon dropped the cubs off. Melanie was in heat, and he was getting ready to mark Mindy. It was about time there was some good to counter all the bad they had been through.
"What are you so happy about?" Mindy asked, walking out of the bathroom. She had wanted to take a shower before Wesley marked her.
"Saxon and Melanie just dropped the cubs off. She's in heat." He answered. Mindy looked at him in surprise.
"Wow, so does that mean she'll be pregnant after the heat?" She asked.
"Most likely. You'll probably go into heat within a month or so after we're fully mated." Wesley wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead.
"I would like to talk to Melanie about the heat after she's done. Are you ready to mark me?" Mindy asked, kissing his cheek.
"Sweetheart, I've been ready since the first time I laid my eyes on you." Wesley kissed her deeply while pulling her over to the bed. He sat on the edge and had her sit on his lap so she was straddling him. When he pulled back, they were both breathless.
"This may hurt for a second, but it won't last." He whispered, nibbling on her ear.
"Okay," Mindy said, baring her neck for him.
Wesley kissed the area before biting down. Mindy felt a tiny prick of pain followed by intense pleasure. Her entire body became hot as his canines kept going deeper and deeper. She groaned in disappointment when he pulled out of her.
"How do you feel?" He asked while licking up the drops of blood on her neck. Mindy opened her eyes and smiled.
"I feel like I need you to take me right here, right now." She brought her mouth to his as he fell back on the bed. Wesley couldn't wait for her to mark him.

**One Week Later**
Melanie's heat had lasted three days. Afterward, Chika said they were pregnant but didn't know if they were having a cub or a vampire. Melanie and Saxon had worried about how the cubs would take the news. To their surprise, they were ecstatic and already talking about how they wanted to decorate the nursery.
They were on their way to the realtor's office to do the closing and pick up the keys to the house. When they arrived, Diana and the notary were waiting for them.
The closing was over in about thirty minutes, and as soon as they had the keys, they left for their house. With their family being so large, Melanie and Saxon had called on them to help with painting, cleaning, and moving. They were going to meet them at the house in an hour to get started. When they pulled up the driveway, the cubs squealed excitedly, running to the front door as soon as the car stopped.
"I can't believe this is our house," Lisa said, twirling around in circles.
"Yep, it's all ours. Are you ready to go inside?" Saxon asked, handing the keys to the cubs. They nodded while putting the key into the lock and opening the door. As soon as they were all inside, the cubs started crying. Their deep sobs made Melanie and Saxon look at them with concern.
"What's wrong?" Melanie asked as she and Saxon sat on the floor and hugged them.
"When we were in the cages, we would hear other cubs talking about living in a house with their mommy and daddy. We would talk about what it would be like to have a mommy and daddy to live in a house with. We didn't think we would live to see it anywhere except our dreams. When you and daddy told us we were your cubs, and we would be buying a house, you made our dreams come true. We don't have to imagine anymore because it's real." Lisa said between sobs. Melanie and Saxon cried with them.
"You two made our dreams come true too. We love you both so much we couldn't have wished for better cubs." Melanie kissed them each on the cheek as they dried their tears. Lisa and Alex acted so grown up that sometimes it was easy to forget they were only five and had lived a life of terror. Melanie and Saxon vowed never to let them feel unloved or unwanted ever again.
Just as they had finished walking through the house, they heard the sound of multiple vehicles pulling up. Their family had arrived. Everyone came, even some of the people they had rescued. They were one big happy family now, and Saxon and Melanie couldn't wait to see what the future held for all of them.
