BK 5 - Chapter 61 - Demons

Sozgath and Zannan were cambions from the underworld. Their mothers were human, but their fathers were demons. Many from the underworld would send cambions to Earth because they could blend in better than full-blood demons. The demon of envy, Leviathan, had sent them to follow the werelion family. He had been plotting their deaths for years. No matter how much evil touched their lives, they were filled with too much good. Leviathan didn't like that. He wanted to bring them to their knees. He was intent on destroying the family and getting Atzi's book. That book was the only thing that could kill him. There were spells in it that threatened some of those from the underworld, and it was time for it to be destroyed.

"All the mates have been set in place, sir. They should have their animals soon. They are all together right now; can't we just do it and get it over with?" Sozgath asked Leviathan on the phone. The demon was hiding in a cave on Earth. He wouldn't show himself until it was time to eliminate the werelion family; otherwise, Satan would know his plan. The devil had been searching for information on who was planning the attack. As far as Leviathan knew, he had no idea who was involved.

"We will do it when I say it's time to do it, not a minute sooner. We have to be prepared. Going in at the wrong time would do nothing but get us all killed. Don't worry; the time is coming," Leviathan replied.

"What do you want us to do now? Are we still watching the family?" Sozgath asked. He and Zannan were ready to get back home to the underworld.

"Focus on the leader of the lion family, Caterina," Leviathan replied. He knew despite how innocent and sweet she looked, Cat was the one they needed to fear.

"Why her? Emma and Roger have the magic from the witch. Cat is just a grandma," Sozgath said.

"Don't let her fool you. That woman runs that family and is more dangerous than she appears. Watch her. She's not going to let her grandchildren go into this fight alone." Leviathan answered before disconnecting the call. It was almost time to take down the werelion family. They had been spreading goodness for far too long.

Cat watched Nathan and Isla hug after they marked each other. She was so happy that so many of her grandchildren were finding their mates. Nothing pleased her more than seeing those who had a difficult past mated to someone who could help them heal. Now, it was time to talk about what was heading their way. Atzi had told them to trust Emma and Roger, but that didn't mean they couldn't help.

"Can I have your attention, everyone? As you know, something supernatural is planning to attack our family. Emma and Roger have been preparing for this for a long time, thanks to Atzi. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't all be ready. I have some people who will be joining us. After that Earthquake, we all know the countdown has begun." Cat looked around and then looked toward the driveway. A car was pulling up.

"Excuse me for just a moment. It looks like some of our reinforcements have arrived." Cat and Trey walked toward the new arrivals while everyone else waited.

"Hello, I'm Cat, and this is my mate Trey. I'm guessing by the little one in your arms that you're Krystal, Simon, Johan, and Dorian." Cat said with a smile.

"Yes, it's so nice to meet you both. This place is incredible," Krystal said, looking around. The house and the number of people in the backyard were quite overwhelming. Johan was reaching his little arms out towards Cat, and she took him happily. Krystal and Simon looked at each other in shock. He typically didn't want any strangers to hold him. Trey chuckled when he saw their expressions.

"Cat has a unique ability that makes children and people in general gravitate toward her," Trey answered their unspoken question. Cat looked up at Johan's parents as she put him on her hip and held out her hand. Krystal gasped when she touched Cat. It felt like her entire body was wrapped in a warm blanket. Simon and Dorian had the same response.

"I'm part caladrius. When I touch people, I can feel their emotions and help them feel better emotionally. I have some healing capabilities, too." Cat explained as she kissed Johan's forehead. He laid his head on her shoulder.

"That's amazing," Krystal said as they began walking toward the others. Dorian suddenly froze, and they all stopped to look at him. He was staring at someone in the crowd. Cat looked at her family and smiled when she saw who was walking toward them with wide eyes. As she approached, Dorian stepped forward. He couldn't believe it. He had been searching for his mate for years. When she was only a few feet from him, she stopped.

"Mate," they said at the same time. Marcy stared at the muscular man with short brown hair and dark brown eyes. He was gorgeous, and he was her mate.

"If you're mates, can you mark each other so I can watch?" Penelope asked excitedly. Cat chuckled as she took her granddaughter's hand.

"Why don't you help me with Johan while they talk?" Cat asked her. Penelope noticed the baby in her arms and clapped her hands.

"We have a baby in the family now? Yay. Can I hold him?" She asked, looking at Krystal.

"Of course you can." They all walked away, leaving Marcy and Dorian staring at each other.

"I'm Marcy." Dorian relaxed once they were left alone. He was a quiet man, and having so much attention on himself made him uncomfortable.

"I'm Dorian. I'm a wolf. Are you a lion?" He asked softly. Marcy shook her head.

"I'm a wolf, too. You'll soon discover that Grandma Cat and Grandpa Trey make everyone they meet part of the werelion family. Many of us aren't werelions. We have many species here, including vampires and witches." Marcy explained. She wanted to touch his hand but could feel some of her family members watching them.

"That's incredible. I have no family other than Simon and Krystal. They're snow leopards. We do search and rescue after disasters," Dorian said, looking at the people behind her. Most were chatting among themselves, but some were looking at them.

"Would you like to take a walk with me to the other side of the property and away from the prying eyes?" Marcy asked when she saw his discomfort.

"We heard that. We're not prying; we're just interested in your mate," Lisa said from her seat. Marcy ignored her, grabbed Dorian's hand, and led him away from her family. He linked his fingers with hers and held on tight. He hoped he would never have to let her go. When they were out of view of the others, Marcy slowed down and looked up at him.

"So, you don't have a chosen mate hidden somewhere, do you?" she asked, hoping the answer was no.

"I've never been with a woman. I've been waiting for my mate. How about you?" Dorian asked. Jealousy washed over him at the thought of another man touching Marcy.

"I've been waiting, too. Are you going to accept me as your mate?" she asked, sitting on a swing. Dorian sat next to her.

"I wouldn't dream of rejecting you. You weren't hoping for a different type of mate, were you? I'm not an alpha or anything; I'm just a lonely wolf without a pack," Marcy scooted closer to him.

"You have a pack now. You're part of our family. I didn't grow up in a wolf pack. I grew up here with my mom and dad. Grandma Cat always says that mates find each other when they need each other the most." Dorian put his arm around Marcy's shoulders. She looked up at him, and he smiled.

"Well, I definitely need you. Can I kiss you?" He asked, looking at her lips. Marcy couldn't speak, so she just nodded.

Dorian put his mouth on hers, and the sparks that flooded their bodies were intense. When Dorian's tongue touched Marcy's, she crawled onto his lap and straddled him. She was older than her cousins and had been waiting for her mate longer. Dorian wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. When they pulled apart, neither moved as they tried to catch their breath.

"I don't think I'm ever going to get enough of kissing you," Dorian said as he kissed her again. Marcy giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"You won't ever have to stop." She said against his lips.

"You didn't mark each other, did you?" They both jumped apart when they heard Penelope.

"Dorian, this is my niece, Penelope," Marcy said, crawling off his lap. The little pup had her arms crossed and was tapping her foot.

"Uncle Nathan and Aunt Isla, let me watch them mark each other. Will you let me watch you, too?" She asked.

"We haven't talked about it yet," Marcy replied. Dorian didn't know what to say. Penelope smiled sweetly at them.

"If you let me watch, you'll be my favorite aunt and uncle," she said, giving them her best puppy dog eyes. Dorian couldn't tell her no with that sweet face.

"If Marcy is okay with it, you can watch when we mark each other." He couldn't believe he said yes but couldn't bring himself to tell Penelope no. She clapped her hands and giggled.

"Yay, now you're my favorites. Grandma Cat told me to bring you back because she has more to talk about." Penelope held their hands as she skipped happily between them. Dorian looked at Marcy over the pup's head.

"I'm sorry I agreed. I don't know what she did, but I couldn't tell her no." Marcy shook her head and laughed.

"Don't apologize. That's just how Penelope is. She's four going on forty." Marcy answered. Penelope giggled as they reached the others.

"Everyone, Marcy and Dorian said I could watch when they mark each other, so they're my new favorites," she announced.

"Hey, we were your favorites five minutes ago because we let you watch." Nathan teased her. Isla smiled and put her head on his shoulder. After marking each other, she felt like she needed to touch him.

"I can have two favorites. Okay, Grandma Cat, you can keep talking." Penelope pushed Marcy and Dorian to the picnic table where Nathan and Isla were sitting. She then crawled up and sat on Dorian's lap. He didn't know what to do at first. Other than Johan, he hadn't been around many children and none like Penelope. Everyone turned when they heard another vehicle. Cat smiled as she grabbed Trey's hand and went to meet their guests.

"Good timing. More reinforcements have arrived."
