BK 2 - Chapter 16 - New Beginning
Kitty smiled at Cat, who looked somewhat similar to her, with the exception of their hair and eyes. Aiden had told her that of all his family, Trey was the best. She was glad his mate seemed nice too.
"Hello, Cat, Trey. It's a pleasure to meet you both." The two couples went into the beach house, where Trey repeated his idea for Kitty's benefit.
She loved the idea of starting somewhere new and helping Cat with the group home. She thought this would be her chance to help others who had been like her. Kitty did wonder about Cat and why she had decided to start a group home, but she figured she would ask another time.
"Thank you for helping us. When I heard you mated with a human, I knew you would be the right one to come to. We need to discuss some other things with you, but I think that can wait until we get to Sacramento." Aiden held his mate's hand, feeling the hope that they could live peacefully flood his body.
"Cat, you're a human too?" Kitty asked in disbelief. Aiden hadn't told her that. She already felt closer to Cat, knowing she had been like her.
"Yes, I was a human until a couple of weeks ago. Trey marked me, and after I transitioned, I marked him. Don't worry; I'll help you through it." Cat smiled at her, and Kitty returned her smile.
"Thank you."
"Aiden, we can be packed up pretty quickly. Do you want to grab your things and meet us back here? Then you can follow us to Sacramento." Trey looked at his brother, who nodded excitedly.
"Yes, we've been staying in a hotel, so it won't take long. We'll be back soon." Aiden and Kitty left both feeling a lightness in their hearts that hadn't been there since they met. Trey and Cat were exactly what they needed.
"I take it you haven't mentioned the whole Ricky thing yet?" Kitty asked as they drove toward the hotel.
"No. After Trey told me we could go to Sacramento with them, I decided to wait until we got there. That's going to be a lengthy conversation. What did you think of Trey and Cat?" Aiden looked over at Kitty, and she smiled.
"They're great. Something about Cat makes me feel better just being in her presence. I don't know how to explain it, but isn't she amazing?" She thought about Cat as they drove and hoped to have time to talk with her alone.
"Yes, I thought the same thing when I met her. I think Trey and I are lucky that we mated to humans." He lifted her hand up to his lips and smiled.
They quickly packed everything up and loaded the car when they got to their hotel room. Kitty walked through the room, checking every crevice to make sure nothing was left behind. After she was satisfied that they didn't forget anything, they turned in their keycards and headed back to Trey and Cat.
As they pulled up, the other two were loading the truck. Aiden jumped out to help Trey while Kitty walked over to Cat.
"Did you get everything you needed from the hotel?" Cat smiled at her, and Kitty had the same warm feeling.
"Yes. Thanks again for helping us. As much as I love it here, being out of the hotel will be nice. I've never been to Sacramento." Kitty leaned against the truck next to Cat.
"I'm glad we can help. This was my first time being in Monterey or even seeing the ocean. Sacramento is nice, but the weather is warmer than in the bay area. We like it, though, and we can show you around."
Aiden and Trey walked out with the remaining bags and loaded them into the back of the truck. Kitty and Aiden agreed to follow the couple in the car.
Kitty looked around as they drove further inland. She was excited to see everything, and the further away from San Francisco they got, the better she felt.
It took them almost five hours to get to Trey's apartment, but she loved every minute of the drive. Cat was right; the weather was a lot warmer in Sacramento. Kitty enjoyed the heat; it was such a contrast compared to the coolness of the bay.
The four of them went up to the apartment, and when Trey opened the door, Kitty could tell no one had been there in a while. Everything was dusty and had the smell of non-use. She went over and opened the sliding glass door to air out the room as Cat and Trey walked through the apartment.
Aiden and Kitty went back to the car to get their things, and she looked around when they stepped outside. The apartment was downtown, but she noticed it wasn't as noisy as San Francisco. She took a deep breath before grabbing a few bags from the car. Kitty felt like this was a new beginning for her and Aiden.
It only took them two trips to carry everything upstairs. Just as they finished, Cat and Trey came out of the back of the apartment. Kitty saw how Trey was with Cat, and it reminded her of how Aiden treated her. They were both gentle and loving.
"You can make yourselves at home. I don't come here anymore because I live with Cat now. I just haven't had time to move out, so the place is yours for as long as you want." Aiden smiled at his brother as he put his arm around his mate.
"Thank you. You don't know how much this means to us."
"Why don't you come to our place tomorrow, and I'll cook dinner so we can talk? We're staying in Granite Bay in the pool house of Trey's sergeant." Cat grinned at them.
"Thanks. We'll see you tomorrow." Trey gave Aiden the address of where they were staying, and then he and Cat left.
Kitty and Aiden looked around the apartment after they were gone. The living room had a dark brown leather couch and chair. There was a wooden coffee table, two matching end tables, and a nice-sized TV hanging on the wall.
The bedroom had a queen-sized bed, a wooden dresser, a chest of drawers, and a nightstand. Kitty decided the first thing to do was wipe everything down to get rid of the dust.
"I think we need to clean a little, and then I don't know about you, but I'm starving. Maybe we can order something to eat." She pulled her hair back, took off her sweater, and put on a t-shirt. Cashmere wasn't really something you wear for cleaning. Aiden watched her in fascination.
"Wow, you don't waste time, do you. What do you want me to order?" He walked over and put his arm around her.
"How about pizza? I'm always up for that. I want to make this place comfortable for us. This is the first place I've stayed in that wasn't a hotel or foster home. This is a big day for me." Kitty looked around in excitement. She didn't care that this was Trey's apartment; it was her and Aiden's home right now.
"Pizza it is, then. Let me find a place close by, and then I'll help you clean." He used his phone to look up pizza shops when something hit him he hadn't thought of before.
"Do you have a phone?" She looked at him as she was searching for cleaning supplies.
"No. I know you can get free ones now when you have no income, but I never had a need for one." Kitty shrugged and went back to searching. Aiden was surprised at her statement. He'd never met anyone that didn't have a phone, especially as young as Kitty. He decided he was going to get her one. Everyone needs a phone for emergencies if nothing else.
After ordering their food, he found her in the bathroom, cleaning every surface. They wiped down all the furniture when she was done with the bathroom. Kitty saw a vacuum cleaner in a closet, so she did the floors as Aiden opened the windows in the bedroom and wiped down the kitchen.
When they were done, it smelled clean, and everything shined like new. Kitty found some clean bedding, so they changed the sheets before carrying their bags into the bedroom. As they started to put their things away, there was a knock on the door. Aiden got the food and set the table. Kitty walked out and stopped when she saw what was there. Not only pizza but a small german chocolate cake.
"What's that for?" She asked as her mouth began to water. That was her favorite dessert.
"We're celebrating. Today we're officially moving in together." Kitty laughed as she hugged him.
"You're the best."
After eating, they finished unpacking and decided to get a shower. Aiden said it would be quicker if they showered together. She agreed, but there was nothing fast about their shower.
When they were finally in bed for the night, Kitty was still awake after he had fallen asleep. Harley was purring softly where her head rested on Aiden's chest, and Kitty smiled. After meeting Trey and Cat, she felt they had found a home.
