Mirabelle's POV

Mirabelle's POV

I know I shouldn't get involved in Camilla and Adrian's business anymore but everytime my gaze meets Angel, I consider my day ruined. I saw her this morning, flaunting her baby bump in the kitchen to everyone. Not many were pleased with seeing her pregnant because they automatically knew it's Adrian's baby. I reckon more than three people cursed her out, one of them an older woman who said she would suffer more pain than she's causing Camilla.

I can't agree more with her, I hope one day Angel gets to feel the same pain she has caused Camilla, multiplied by fifty. It's wrong to wish on someone and my mom has always discouraged me against this behaviour but I have never taken to it, I always want vengeance and karma to prevail.

Maybe when Angel has the baby, I'll feel differently about the matter but right now, if she were dying of thirst and I had the last water bottle on earth, I wouldn't so much as piss in her mouth to save her, I would use the water bottle to water a plant on the Sahara. That's just how I feel about her and nothing seems to change it, not even the fact that she will give my brother an heir soon.

Angel disappeared somewhere a few minutes ago, to be precise, we left the kitchen at the same time. I couldn't stand eyeing her anymore nor was I doing a good job at giving her masked dirty stares. It's good she left, now I don't have to worry about giving a pregnant woman dirty looks, especially one that is carrying my nephew. God, I hate to admit that.

I went out for a walk and all of a sudden, Molly and I were having lunch at her favorite restaurant. I don't clearly comprehend the events that led to us meeting up but that lunch was absolutely savory and satisfying. I also ordered a milkshake to go before leaving, I had to leave Molina because I have plans with Cami today.

When I get back to the pack house, I head straight for the kitchen. There's smoke in there but that's not the first thing that catches my eye, it's Adrian. He's smiling at the chaos, my initial reaction is to help but instead, my feet take a turn, going for the fridge in order to secure my milkshake. Once it's placed perfectly where I know no one will touch it, I join Adrian by the kitchen counter, pulling a stool to sit on as I watch Camilla and some girls attempt to chase smoke out of the kitchen. “What's going on?” I ask, ignoring the suspicions in my head on what transpired to birth this much smoke.

Adrian's gaze doesn't leave Camilla who seems to be panicking as he answers me. “My girl was trying to make toast.”

My lips curve into a grin, yep, just as I suspected. Camilla can't cook for shit but I assume she was trying to impress Adrian who is undoubtedly smitten with her even now, with her hair all over her face and her arms flapping a kitchen towel consistently as she coughs. “You know,” I giggle, my gaze still on Camilla too. “You need to get a new toaster, I'm sure it's damaged now. Camilla can give anything life but sure as hell can kill kitchen appliances in the blink of an eye.”

Adrian chuckles, his gaze drifting to me momentarily. “As if you can cook,” he teases.

I frown, I can cook. I know how to cook pretty much anything, I'm the one that makes Camilla and I breakfast most days. “You know I can cook, the one thing I can't seem to do is find my mate.” I counter, my tone hinting at humor. “Hey, your birthday is two days away, I haven't heard or seen plans.” I add, my arms dropping on the kitchen counter.

“Aren't you the CEO of event planning?”

My jaw drops, my head slanting as I have at him. “I thought you'd let your people take care of it after last year when I–”

“It's fine, I've forgotten about that incident and even if you screw up I don't care.” he says, cutting me off mid-sentence.

“I might ruin your birthday party on purpose.” I grin, part of happy I get to plan his birthday, even if it's short notice.

“I already have something that always makes me smile, nothing can ruin that.” he grins. I arch my eyebrows at him and his lips drift into a wider smile as he switches his gaze to Camilla. “Her.” he whispers, a trance unlocked when he looks at her. I follow his gaze, Camilla is learning how to work the toaster from Veronica and Janice. Her focus on their instruction is unmatched, when she finally makes a perfect toast, she jumps with excitement, hugging Veronica before looking at Adrian with a smile and waving when she sees me. I wave back, giving her a thumbs up as I watch the joy dancing in her eyes. “She's too good for you Adrian.” I murmur, my gaze drifting to Adrian.

In response he nods. I let out a sigh, my entire body stirring from the gust of storm I've been sensing for days. The last time I felt this, my father died. “It's nice she forgave you but you know what, if you screw up one more time, you'll lose both of me and Camilla because I can't stay with anyone that hurts her.” I tell him, and it's the honest truth. This isn't the first time I've said it nor the last and I won't stop saying it anytime soon.

“Belle,” he whispers, his gaze switching from me to Camilla, then back to me. “I love Camilla, I will stop at nothing to see her happy, and I promise I won't screw up.”

I want to believe him, I do because I've learned his promises towards her are always fulfilled but his past gets in the way most of the time, exhibit A: Angel.

“I said if Adrian, and I feel a storm coming I just hope it's not from you. Hell, I pray it doesn't come to pass because this time, it's strong. I haven't slept well in a while, except for last night when Camilla was with me.”

His arm comes to my back, brushing my back lightly. “No one is going to die Moon, I promise.” he whispers, in response my gaze shifts to Camilla, she's become one of the people I'm just not ready to lose. When my dreams and shivers are this strong, it's usually someone I care about and I've gone over five years without feeling this way, so why now?

Adrian seems to notice where my thoughts are running because even he stiffens for a moment, following my gaze to a very happy Camilla. She's so happy with the little things in life, I wish I was more like her in that aspect. “No, nothing is going to happen to Camilla. You know why?” he asks, his hand now resting on top of my head and I shake it, frowning at the action. “Because she has the best Zeta in my pack protecting her and me, a first loser at the Alpha of the year award this year.”

I giggle in response, he is right. Nothing is going to happen to her, she has me, Adrian, Santiago and everyone else in this pack protecting her by obligation and soon, by oath.

Camilla runs up to us, six slices of toast on the plate, one more burnt than the other but some look good enough to be edible. My lips curve into a grin, Adrian's too, watching how excited she is proudly like a mother on her child's first big milestone. She slides the plate towards us and frowns, “I was doing fine at first but then it stopped working well.” she says, referring to the toaster as it.

My hand reaches for a slice with avocado spread, it looks the most edible. Taking it into my mouth, my teeth crunch down on it and I nod, chewing. Adrian narrows his eyebrows and I continue nodding as I crunch on the piece in my mouth until it's reduced to nothing. I wish I had a glass of water to wash it down but I don't want to offend Camilla, the toast is too dry for my taste but she did great for her first time that's for sure. “Great job, I like it but you need a little more practice.”

Camilla grimaces, throwing her hands up in defeat before walking round the table to meet Adrian who awaits with open arms. He scoots the chair back to accommodate her, making a screeching sound on the floor when he does. Camilla wraps her arms around him and fabricates sadness. “On second thought, I'll just make enough money to pay a chef.” she mutters, making both my brother and I erupt into laughter.

He kisses the top of her head, “Yea, we can hire a chef baby but I don't mind living off eating you day and night.” he says, winking at me.
