Camilla's POV
Alpha's Hated Mate
Camilla's POV
Something is ringing, rather than someone if I'm not mistaken. I recognize that piercing sound, even as I struggle to open my eyes, the cries becoming closer by the second, until I jerk up from the bed. My gaze shifts from right to left, there's a crib next to me. I peek into it, there's a baby in it, she's crying. I rub my eyes, looking at her, her cries are piercing my soul. "
“Belle,” I attempt to call out unsuccessfully, my voice hoarse for some reason. I sit up, watching the crib once again and that's when it hits me, that's just a baby, that's the baby I had.
“Lauriana,” I whisper to myself, peering at her as she cries. I want to pick her up, to calm her, but my hands are shaking, I'm terribly shaking, so much so that if I carry her, I'll drop her.
My hand reaches out to touch her, “Shh.” I whisper, tapping her chest with it.
The door squeals open, startling me. My hand withdrawals from her so fast, watching who it is. “Coming Princess,” Kingston walks in so fast, he doesn't notice me, he heads straight for her, carrying her from her crib.
“Oh, Beautiful, you're awake.” he grins.
“Yes, she umm, she's crying.” I let out, my voice hoarse, my throat is dry and itchy once I speak.
“Shh, little princess, I'm here, and the bottle is here.” he says, picking her up as I watch him. She looks so small and fragile.
King settles on the bed, and puts the bottle in her mouth, quieting her instantly.
“Impatient,” he mumbles, smiling. The smile is less wide when he turns to me.“Well, you took your time Alpha.”
I frown, opening my mouth to speak but I'm cut off by the door opening once again, Mirabelle walking in hastily. “I came as fast as I could, I heard Camilla on the baby monitor.”
Waving at her, I mouth a silent "hey". Mirabelle grins, reaching to give me a hug, “Welcome to the land of the living baby mama.”
“How long was I asleep for?”
“Four days.”
Four days? And they didn't worry I died?
Mirabelle reaches over to my nightstand, giving me a water bottle. I click it open, taking more than a sip because it soothes my dry throat. I see Kingston set Lauriana's feeding bottle down and he rises. “I am going to check on the trainees,” he announces.
“Sure, give her to me.” Mirabelle smiles, opening her arms to take the baby.
Kingston places her into her arms, and she flinches, sucking her tongue. She's so pretty, I can't look away from her, I thought I dreamed about her but no, she's real, I didn't dream it.
“Would you like anything to eat, Beautiful?”
“Sure, and send Kendall up,” I gulp, looking away from the baby.
Kingston nods, walking out of the room. I rise, “I need to freshen up, everything hurts.”
“Do you need some help ?” Mirabelle offers, looking away from the baby.
“I got it.”
“Okay,” she tells me, looking down at the baby. “I'll just be here with Arieya, right darling?”
“Arieya?” I ask, my heart now beating fast.
“Arielle said it's tradition to give the baby a middle name so Hades, King & Tiana chose that one, and I love it too. Well, Tiana chose the name and Hades couldn't disagree with her, neither could King, it fits her, don't you think?”
I shrug, walking away without another word out of me. I nearly fall, the function of my legs nearly lost to me as I make my way to the bathroom.
I run myself a bath, stalling and crying for what seems like hours. When I finally emerge, drying my hair with a towel, Mirabelle is putting the baby in the crib, whispering something to her. My thoughts are running miles, why is the baby here, did Arielle change her mind about taking her? Can I ask her to change it? I've been asleep for four days, four days in which I don't know what happened, I should occupy my mind with something else, not the baby. I dismiss Belle and Lauriana, putting on a fresh set of clothes when I return to my bed.
Mirablle straightens, “I have an errand to run,” she tells me.
My gaze shifts from the crib to her, “You are going to leave her?”
“She's asleep, don't worry about her, she'll probably sleep like you did except it's for hours on her part.” Mirabelle grins, not giving me a chance to deny the theory because she walks right out.
A second later, Kendall walks in, holding a tray of food obviously prepared by Kingston.
“Alpha how are you?” she greets, setting the tray down on the bed.
“Good, can you go and bring me all the work that's pending, all papers that need my approval or my awareness, bring it here immediately.” I tell her.
Kendall nods, “Okay.”
Kendall leaves, returning with the paperwork shortly after. Belle returns like promised, and so does King, holding the baby in his arms while she sleeps soundly. I'm stealing glances at King and the baby, barely focusing on my work. I notice him move to the side of the bed where I'm seated, I ignore him, pretending I can't see him standing there.
“Camilla, take the baby.”
“I'm working King,” I retorted, pretending to focus on my work.
“Beautiful, this is important, I have to check on something.”
“Don't even look at me, I'm busy too.” Belle says, looking at me.
“Just watch her, it will only be for a minute.” Kingston tells me, gently placing Lauriana on the bed, close to the edge. Leaving her there without saying a word about it, I begin to panic, if she turns once, this baby is going to fall. Can she turn, is she too young to turn?
“Pick the baby up,” Belle tells me, gesturing to the middle with her papers. I reach out to touch her but my hands are shaking.
“What if I drop her or swing her across the room?” I ask.
Belle shakes her head, a smile playing on her lips. “We both know you can't.”
I turn to the baby, she's sleeping, a pout on those pretty lips.
“Have you never held a child before?” Belle snorts.
I shake my head, Lauriana stirs in her sleep, I reach over quickly, picking her up instantly. My heart calms when I have her in my arms, a sigh of relief escaping me. “She's so tiny,” I tell whisper, watching the baby fluttering her eyelids. She's so tiny, I don't think I've ever been more scared and excited in my life to have someone in my arms, she's heaven. I cradle her in my arms, my mind completely back on her now, I'm so curious and happy for her and her life, she's a good girl.
“Hey,” someone startles me, making my gaze shift from the baby. I catch Arielle, a smile playing on my lips when I see her.
“Ari,”
“Welcome to the land of the living Alpha,” she grins, peeking at the baby. “Oh, my darling princess, look at you. Aren't you the sweetest thing this Luna has ever seen,” she grins wider, tapping the baby's nose.
“So Arielle,” Belle begins. “You came here dressed like that, with flip flops'?” she frowns.
“Well, after you told me Cami was awake I just had to come see her.” she sighs, taking a seat. “And of course, take this little Princess out of her hands like I promised I would, everyone is excited about it, and I am so happy to be taking my new daughter home.”
Fuck, I gulp, looking down at Lauriana. I can easily pretend I can let her go when she's not in my arms but like this, I can't do it, I want this baby in my arms forever. “I won't force you to take care of this cute little creature, I'll gladly take her off your hands right now. Where are her clothes?” Arielle rises.
“In the wardrobe and that huge suitcase,” Belle tells her, rising from her seat, papers set on the ground. “I'll help you pack.”
Arielle and Mirabelle begin to pack all the baby clothes and supplies, she's only four days old but she has so many clothes, King has been buying anything bright for her to wear. She has enough outfits and diaper's to last her a year, plus a few months. Seeing the baby is asleep, I settle her in one arm, using my other one to study the papers, reading them and setting them aside.
