Mirabelle's POV

ALPHA'S HATED MATE.

Mirabelle’s POV.

Four days post Trey’s birthday party and I’m still somewhere shaken. I haven’t been to school yet. I stayed back yesterday and so did Racheal. We've been confined to our rooms thanks to our behaviour.

When I asked Santiago what Adrian did to Xander, he said he took care of it, which is code for Xander having an exceedingly painful death such that in his next life, he will want to be born in a tree in the Sahara or in the rain forest just to be safe from Adrian’s wrath.

My cousin Molly with whom I attend Winter Bloom Academy came over yesterday and told me many came out to say Xander raped them and the one’s who were with him willingly said he would ask them to act like they didn’t want it but eventually give in.

He was a sick bastard and whatever death Adrian bestowed upon him was probably how he was destined to end.

I thought people at school would blame me because I’ve always been a flirt, a harmless flirt that is.

My alarm clock, which is the only electronic left in my reach, does a great job of waking me up everyday at 6:05am. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it works better than my phone clock.

I’ve been keeping busy with my books. I have a lot to do if I want to go to med school next year. Adrian is a medical student his major is Medicine and Surgery simply because he cherishes cutting people open and Santiago is a Law student his major is Criminal Law also because he loves to win arguments. My other brother Martin is different from the bunch, he is an architect, the best one I’ve ever seen.

I turn away from my book and get flashbacks of the party, instantly making me cry. Was it my fault? Because I can’t help but think it was, maybe I was giving him the wrong idea and I did go up stairs with him of my own free will. There’s a light tap on my door, “Come in.” I sniff, wiping my tears.

Adrian comes in, “Hey kiddo.” He says closing the door behind him, he takes a quick look around my room and I know he’s disturbed by how messy it looks.

“Hey.” I force a smile just for his sake, yesterday he had suggested I see a therapist which I will consider.

He leans on the door, his eyes on mine. “Why were you crying?”

“I was not crying.”

“Don’t stress about him, he’s never going to hurt you, I made sure of it.” He frowns, clenching his fist.

I’m sure he enjoyed making ‘sure of it’. Adrian fancies torturing his victims and he takes pride in his “Art” as he calls it. I’ve seen him do it once, he was twelve, our cousin Evie who was like our sister had just been murdered during a pack takeover and her mate survived, he took it upon himself to send him to the afterlife so they’d be together always like he proclaimed when he came to take her and he said and I quote “I want to be with her forever.”

It was sickening it gave me nightmares for days and even though Evie’s mate was older than he was, they stood at the same height and he couldn’t match Adrian’s strength which shocks me till this day I’ve made it my goal never to watch him fight ever again even if the pack was to be under attack I would fight at a safe distance from him.

“I am sorry.” I tell him, because I don’t know what else to say, I know he does this because he doesn’t want to lose the only sister he has left and I do try to understand him but he needs to understand he can’t cuddle me all my life. I’m grown up just as he is and I can’t hold my own if he’d just let me or better yet trust me I would show him and everyone I’m capable.

“Don’t be sorry Moon, it’s not your fault. You just wanted to have some fun but caught the attention of the wrong creep. Maybe I’m too strict with – You know what, I will try to let you have your freedom to be the teenage girl that you want to be.” He sighs. “But promise me you’ll never lie to me about where you are and who you’re with, I need to know those things so I can protect you, and it would also make me feel at ease.” He whispers the last part to himself.

“I will, I promise I will be more honest about my whereabouts especially when it’s late.” I say in an attempt to assure him and be honest to God I will be truthful with him, when he needs to know.

“So Racheal is getting ready for school-”

“I can’t, I’m late.” I protest because I don’t think I’m ready to go back there.

“I’m sure your teachers are used to it.”

“True.” I laugh, it’s his fault I’m always late, has been driving me for a while now.

“Your car will be ready this week.” He smiles.

I never get to drive my car to school, it’s for emergencies only. Like when Adrian and Santiago can’t drop us off we drive my car, I am not the best driver so I understand why I’m not allowed to be driving around but Racheal is pretty good at it, speedy though.

He opens the door, pausing to look at me. “Get ready, Moon.” I blow him a kiss and he chuckles. We haven’t been the kind of brother and sister that necessarily like each other but aren’t all siblings like this?

We fight but we would kill for each other and well mine does kill for me.

When he leaves I take a bath and get ready, my uniforms are dirty so I use my backup uniform, the skirt is two inches longer than my everyday uniforms, handpicked by Martin when I started 10th grade I never did wear it because I looked like a nun when I did but two years later, I’m taller and it falls above the knees, see too long for me two years ago.

As I got ready I couldn’t help but think, Xander’s death was what he deserved for the trauma and abuse he inflicted on so many women. Adrian comes back when I’m gathering my books as well as the books Racheal gave me last Friday.

“Nice Skirt.” He snorts, holding in a laugh.

I growl at him, “My uniforms are dirty because I didn’t do my laundry but I will get to it soon enough and by that I mean the second I get back from school.”

“Racheal is downstairs waiting for you.”

I begin to gather my books, “Let’s go, out of my room Adrian.”

“What is this pig farm? I’m sure if you look underneath those clothes and tissues you’ll find rats and maggots.” He teases.

Holding the books to my chest using one hand, I grab a pillow with my free hand and toss it at him.

He snarls leaving the room that’s Adrian for you saying ‘I should have left you depressed’ I chuckle at my thought and follow right behind him.

I make sure to close the door behind me.

“You look nice and fresh.” Racheal murmurs, munching on her toast.

Santiago is by the fridge talking to a girl, she’s looking down, they look suspicious to me like they’re hiding something. Is she his latest fuck buddy? She does look like his type.

“Who is that?” I ask Adrian, gesturing my head towards them.

“Santiago?”

I turned back to him, “Mmm, no I mean the girl with him.”

“I am not a detective.” He snaps, going further into the kitchen.

“Morning Tiago!” I yell bringing my attention to me, he takes one look at me I can sense it coming before he even says it.

“Nice skirt.” He remarks laughing. And there it is.

“Seriously what is up with everyone and my skirt, does it look funny?” I ask Racheal, the only sane person in the room.

Racheal smiles at me, “It’s fine, don't mind them.” She assures me before going back to her avocado toast.

“Are you taking us to school?” I ask my question directed at both Adrian and Santiago.

“Not me, I am busy today, come on.” He smiles, taking the hand of the girl he’s with.

I take a good look at her and it finally clicks, I think I know where I’ve seen her.

“Hey don’t I know you?” I inquire to confirm my suspicion.

Racheal finally abandons her breakfast to see who it is that I’m speaking to. She doesn’t respond to my question, she rather gapes at me for a few seconds before looking away.

“She sit’s next to you.” Racheal says, confirming my suspicion.

“Oh, ” Santiago gasps silently, “Then that’s great so you’re friends?”

I smile at her, looking back at Santiago with the same smile, “I guess you could say that but not really. She’s nice though.”

“Oh that’s great.” He beams looking over my shoulder to where I know Adrian stands only a few feet away.“Well now maybe you guys can be friends. You can talk to her.”

“We can’t, we are going to school.” Racheal tells him.

“Well she will be right here when you get back.” He grins.

Racheal looks at the girl, her head tilting slightly. “Here? Aren’t you from Mikel’s pack?”

“Dark Moon.” I correct Racheal. “Alpha Ryan’s Sister.” I say surprising myself.

What is Alpha Ryan’s sister doing here? Him and Adrian don’t play on the same grounds but his sister is here? Did they kidnap her or is this another Michelle incident, which would be fate playing a cruel game with Alpha Ryan, two of his sisters finding mates in Midnight Saints. If that is the case, then that’s too cruel on the Moon goddess’ part.

“Yes she used to be from there but now she’s a member of our pack and I ask that you make Camilla feel welcome.” Santiago smiles.

“Camilla, right you’re Camilla Mia Burton.” I nod to myself. How I couldn’t connect her name earlier is a wonder. “I have your book right here.” I say looking to Racheal for help, she rolls her eyes but comes right over and looks for Camilla’s book in my hands.

“Here.” She says handing it to her, but instead Santiago takes it and once again retires to hold her hand, Adrian growls from where he stands. Santiago and Camilla leave the room.

“Is it just me or she’s his mate?” I ask.

“She’s not.” Racheal answers.

“Hmm but they’re cute together, he compliments her whole adorable nerdy look.”

“Mirabelle.” Adrian warns.

“What? It’s obvious he likes her I mean they were even holding hands is she like his new fuck buddy? I wouldn’t have pegged her for it.”

“You know what, you’re driving yourself to school, I’m busy.” He growls walking past me.

“What did I do?”

“Just go to school and mind your own business!” He snaps before he exit’s.

I turn to Racheal and she shrugs.

“Come on, I will drive.” She giggles.
