Annalise POV
Alpha's Hated Mate
Annalise's POV
Midnight Saints has been one hell of a ride. I've never liked this place. It reminds me of my childhood. I had a happy childhood with pictures to prove it.
However, I can't remember any of it, every part of my childhood is blurry for me and part of my early teen years as well. It hurts to remember, so much so that I end up passing out with a massive headache as an aftermath.
I came to Midnight Saints because Raymond asked me to attend his girlfriends birthday, I've never gotten along with the woman but my boyfriend is on a work trip for a week and I'm on break at University so I said fuck it and bought myself and my best friend plane tickets.
But I've had enough of Midnight Saints for a whole year, six even. I've played the happy cousin and now it's time to go back to my actual life, far from here.
Yesterday I waited for any sign of the infamous Beta, he seems to have a way around stalking me but he didn't show up, I wanted to beat him up just as badly as he wanted to kiss me. Anastasia is next to me, my brother's driver silently taking us to the airport. Anastasia's favorite song has played for the third time, and she's absolutely loving the radio for doing this.
I'm partial to the song, it brings so many good memories of her, but right now not even the sight of her dancing to her favorite song can divert my mind from the last three days in this pack.
My head hurts, I don't know if it's from the hangover or perhaps from trying to contemplate just how someone could be so stupid, like Beta what's his face. I don't even know his name but my cousin and brothers expected me to bow to him, treat him like a king that he isn't. God, I hate that man, I have never believed in instant hate but after meeting him, I believe it, instant hate is a thing. I've resented him from the moment I met him, something about him stirs fervor in me and I hate it, it's a strange sensation that triggers buried sentiments.
Ana nudges my arm, bringing me out of the daze I wandered off into. I tilt my head towards her, nodding to whatever she said.
“Oh, so you're ready for this year's exam?”
I shake my head, biting on my lip. “Shit, I forgot about that, I've been enjoying this holiday forgetting what comes after it.”
“Seriously?” she rolls her eyes, “What's wrong, don't tell me that hot piece of man has your mind fogged again.”
“No, being here constantly makes me lose my mind.” I groan, hitting my head on the seat.
“Smiley, before you moved to Rusanit, you loved it here, you couldn't wait to come home.”
“Yea,” I nod. “That was then, things changed and now Rusanit makes me the happiest I've ever been. Plus, I have you there, you're the love of my life.”
Anastasia pouts, I can tell she's about to cry when my phone rings. My hand hastily checks it, an unknown number flashing on the screen. I turn it to Anastasia who scowls too, and I'm glad the pout is out of the way because I don't like it when she cries.
I pressed the answer and put the phone on speaker, “Hello.”
For a full five seconds, nothing is said on the other line, my finger is about to tap on the end call when he finally speaks. “Baby love,” he breathes, that annoying voice way too familiar.
“The fuck, where did you get my number?” I ask, looking at Anastasia who seems to be holding in a laugh.
“I have my ways,” he tells me.
“Listen here stupid, you can't harass me, I will whip your motherfucking ass”
“Smiley,” Anastasia protests, through a snorted laugh.
I roll my eyes, my hand indicating to shush her and it works.
“Turn the car back around right now,” Beta tells me.
“Excuse me,” I laugh uneasily.
“You heard me, you're wasting your time, you won't get on that plane. I'm just trying to save you some time.”
“Yea, I don't have time for this.” I snarl, cutting the call instantly. Anastasia instantly erupts into laughter. “How does he even know where I am?” I ask, reclining back in my seat.
My phone rings once again, I swipe the answer, not bothering to check who it is.
“Boy you're getting on my last nerve.” I growl at the phone.
“Smiley,” he says.
I shoot up straight, gulping hard, that's not the Beta, it's the main man himself and I just growled at him, used a tone I shouldn't have with him. Oh God I'm so dead, he'll think I'm back to my old days won't he?
“How is my little love bug today?”
“I'm fine father, how are you?” I retort, punching the air. Why is he calling? He's not the type to call so often, he would rather send me sixty emails a day rather than to call me. I get nervous on our calls, wondering what I did, what he heard of it and how he's taking it.
“I'm fine, where are you?”
“Heading to the airport.” I bite out.
“Hmm, I see. I need you to go back home,” he tells me.
My eyes widen, I turn to Anastasia with a dropped jaw but quickly collect myself. “Father, I can't go back home.” I tell him, I wasn't even home to begin with. “ I have to study for exams.”
“I know that, and you can study at home. I didn't build that huge library for nothing, nor did I assemble one in your room for nothing. I want you to stay with your grandmother until your mother and I return in three days.”
“What?” I gasp.
“Did you stutter a little love bug?”
“No,” I shake my head. “I'm going to head back home right now.”
“Good girl, see you soon. I love you.” He murmurs, the line going dead shortly after.
“Oh, oh, I don't like that face, what happened now?” Anastasia asks.
“I have to stay till Mom and Dad return from their seventh or hundredth honeymoon.” I sneer, leaning back in my seat with my arms crossed over my chest.
There's no getting out of this one, when my father asks me to do something I don't ask why, I simply do it. I swore to listen and so far so good, I was a rebel when I was younger, I didn't let anyone control me and how did it end? Well, I lost my wolf because I thought I knew better and I ended up getting molested, but that's not the half of it, I was nearly gang raped, if dad hadn't showed up when he did, I wouldn't be alive to tell the story.
“Don't worry, I'll stay with you.” she tells me, her hand caressing my arm. “Sir, turn back around. We're not leaving.” she peeks into the front seat.
“Thank you,” I tell her.
I'm glad she is staying, with her here these days will be tolerable, I don't know if she's become my copying mechanism for when shit isn't going right with me, but I always call Anastasia for everything. I can't seem to go a day without wanting to hang out with her, except when I'm with my boyfriend, but even then, I do want to be with her. She's my safe place, like my hometown should be but look at what it's doing to me.
My phone lights up in my lap once again, I dread the moment I pick it up, it's a text from Beta, "Dinner tonight?" the text reads, it makes me scoff.
I stare at the dumb text for a minute, did he really think I would agree and how does he know I'm staying, did he put my father up to this?
I quickly type in my reply, "Fuck you creep" and then, I press send, smiling to myself when the text is read. Text bubbles appear on the screen, making me frown once again, he won't back down. Another text comes through, giving rise to the rate of my heart beating.
Unknown: I would like that very much baby love but stop with the cussing, I don't like it.
“God I can't stand being on the same soil with that creep, I would leave right now but I don't want to get scolded by Dad or face the wrath of his wife.” I sigh, purely exhausted by life as a whole.
