ALPHA'S HATED MATE.
Santiago’s POV.
Camilla has settled down a little in the four day’s she’s been here, I asked her to shop online for whatever she wanted but she didn’t want new clothes. I’ve easily found out she’s not like other girls. She doesn’t like shopping and she isn’t a fan of heels. I did manage to persuade her to get three hoodies, four leggings and six oversized T-shirt which were her choice.
And for shoes, we got her Adidas slides and a pair of custom Air force 1s she had smiled at when she saw someone wearing them a day before. Other than that, I could convince her to get anything else.
Adrian has spent his time avoiding Camilla and burying herself in our work, every time he’s near her I see a shift in his entire mood as well as body language, she makes him feel something he doesn’t like and he so he’s scared if he gets close to her even just a little bit, she’ll have to hold the dark space where his heart used to be.
I have seen how he watches her right before he gets pissed off by the warm feeling that she fills him with, one he isn’t used to, peace. Camilla fills everyone she talks to with peace, so I reckon if I can make Adrian jealous, he’ll show some interest in his mate so that’s exactly what I will do.
I’m still showing her around the pack, she likes it but I know Dark Moon is home and I took her to the library because according to the investigation I did, she loves reading.
I ordered her a new school uniform and she can go back to school next week.
As soon as we got to the library she passed her hand on the books and smiled. She was so happy that it made me happy because that’s our Luna and she hasn’t been happy for days. And she has great taste, she went straight for 1st editions.
She picked a book and sat down reading. I sat opposite her and went through my emails. I’m watching her since Adrian made it my duty to watch her at least till she’s comfortable here.
Michelle was being very Golden Hunter -ish with her so she couldn’t get through to her. Michelle has changed since she got here and she can’t connect with her sister in any way but when she first got here, she went on and on about having one every time she saw a kid. “Hey, Cami.” I call her and she doesn’t hear me, I repeat myself two more times before she eventually responds.
“Can I talk to you about something?” She nods and I lean into her.
“You’re our Luna-”
She shakes her head before I can carry on with my sentence.
“You’re Adrian’s mate and he is Alpha which makes you a Luna in return.” I argue, and she smiles in response but quickly masks it, not fast enough.
“Okay I can’t tell you’re really shy but can we be friends? I think we’re awkward and I’ve proved I won’t hurt you.”
“Okay.” She murmurs.
I hold out my hand and she shakes it. “So can I call you Luna?”
“He doesn’t like when you say that to me.”
“Oh, so you care about what he thinks?” I tease and she smiles a little, she has a pretty smile. “Okay so you know this is your new home and I’d like to show you around and make you comfortable.. Okay, new friend?”
She smiles, bringing her hand to her mouth. I think she almost laughed. I grin at her, “I know someone who might have a crush on you. Can you guess who?”
She tilts her head a little confused, “Alpha Adrian.” I whisper, making her eyes pop.
“So as your new friend and his friend I want you to be happy together.”
“Please don’t tell him that, he- he doesn’t like me, he’ll kill me like he did that guy.” She swallows, shaking her head to shake off the image she just got.
She gets back to her book and I notice she wears glasses but hasn’t always had this problem. Yes, I did a thorough investigation.
“Hey Camilla, quick question.”
She looks up from her book, “What?”
“I noticed you wear glasses but you’re fine without them now.”
She nods, “I don’t really need them, I just like to wear them, they're not real eye glasses.”
“Oh okay cool but I’ve noticed something and I’m really offended. You stutter a lot when talking to me but I heard you sing yesterday and you didn’t stutter, are you afraid of me?”
She doesn’t give me a response, instead she chews on her bottom lip. I matched her gaze, “You don’t have to be afraid of anything or anyone.”
“I just get nervous a lot and then I stutter.” Her tiny voice affirms.
“It makes you easy to intimidate so try to control it.” I say as softly as I can and she nods, closing her book.
“You’re done? I mean if you’d rather read later I can show you around the entire house.”
She nods and I don’t know what answer it’s for.
“Don’t say yes because you have to but because you want to.”
“I want to Beta Santiago.” She assures me.
“Nope, don’t call me Beta Santiago, call me Santiago or Tiago anything.”
“But-”
“I will start calling you Luna since you want to be formal.”
“You win. Santiago.” She smiles. “Now I just have to find you a nickname that's just as cute as you are.”
“Hmm isn’t it a little too early in the friendship to be lying?’’ She manages to say without stuttering.
Good, we’re getting somewhere we’ve established trust.
“Come on cupcake, see you already thought of one.”
I take her to the garden, I think she’ll like it and she does, the fresh air seems to make her feel better judging by the deep breaths she takes. When I see Adrian walking around on his phone, I take her hand and pull her to a tree shed.
“Sit with me.”
No questions asked, she sits down with me hanging on to her book.
“Why are we sitting here? Oh I spoke too soon, she does have a question.
“Read page one hundred and three.”
“I haven’t gotten to it.” She looks at me confused.
“Please, I’m trying to see if I will want to read this book based on a random page.”
“Oh.” She says opening the book to the page I requested of her.
“-Beg for salvation. I did, on my knees, every night… Atone for your sins. Repent.” She begins, “ Marrying Killian and staying in this relationship was my atonement. Redemption is in the hands of the one you have wronged. Too bad for me, the man I had wronged hated me with every ounce of his being. I had come to understand that maybe, I would never find the redemption I was seeking. Not in this lifetime anyway….. ”
When I see Adrian approaching us, I lean into her shoulder peeking at the book that I have no interest in reading any time soon.
“Tiago?” He says more like a question as to what’s happening but until he asks he won’t get an answer so I play dumb.
Camilla stiffs when she hears him, pausing her reading and keeping her eyes fixed on the book in her hands.
I instantly grin “Well hello Alpha Adrian.”
He flickers his eyes between us, as they rest on me. “What are you doing?”
“Oh this- I’m just reading a book with cupcake.”
“I don’t see any cupcakes here.” He deadpans.
“Because there’s none, see that’s my nickname for Camilla, you know how I give nicknames to girls I like.” I wink at him.
He shakes his head, “Can I talk to you for a second?” Adrian asks but it’s more of a command, he is pissed and I intend on pissing him off even more so than he already is.
So I place a kiss on Camilla’s cheek before standing, she gasps and widens her eyes at me and Adrian? Well he pulls me with him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” He growls.
“Reading a book with cupcake.” I frown.
“You have duties to tend to.”
“No, this actually the most important one I've been assigned to, keeping Cami company and honestly I’m enjoying, she’s quite lovely.” I smile.
“I don’t like this one bit.” He says.
“You don’t like what Alpha Adrian?” I ask, playing the fool.
“You're pretending to be interested in her to make me jealous. It's not going to work.” He grit’s through his teeth but the way he’s flexing his jaw and the way his fist is clenched, I’m convinced otherwise.
“I’m sorry but you sound jealous.”
“Of what, you and that little omega oh please do take her off my hands you’d be doing me a favor.”
“I like Camilla. She's pretty sweet, funny and she has the cutest smile-and I’m not trying to make you jealous. I've been hanging out with her all day because she has nothing to do.”
“You were with her for six hours only.” He argues.
“I know but I feel we’ve grown so close.” I smile.
“Don’t act smart with me I know you better than anyone that’s how I know you wanna pull one on me.”
I just laugh at him, this is probably what’s bad about knowing each other like the back of one’s hand, we always know what move the other is about to make, it works well for us when we’re in meetings but works against us in situations like this.
“Get her school stuff fast, she can go to school tomorrow and find her a training partner, I can't have a weak link in my pack.”
“No need, I will train her.” I counter.
“Don’t make me snap you in half.” He Mutters to himself but I catch it. “Don’t you think someone her age would be better?” He says trying to mask his first statement but I heard it, he didn’t exactly whisper it.
The grin on my face widens as I turn to Camilla. “Okay but only if she wants to, I won’t force Cami to do anything she doesn’t want to.”
