Rachel POV
Rachael's POV
Hardly spent twenty-four hours in this house and I'm already sick of it, I was so close to getting on the next flight back to where I came from until Molly showed up. Molly always looks her best, even when she doesn't feel it but today, little or no effort was put into her clothing but she still looked great.
Molly brought her younger sister Vivian, she's sixteen and a pain in the ass. Vivian has been on her phone the entire time they got here, texting her new boyfriend. I haven't made a comment about it because I understand her, there's something about finding the right one that just makes your heart flutter and stomach sink, but in a good way.
It took me three days in my mothers home hometown to find my mate, I wasn't looking for him and he wasn't looking for me either. Our meeting was coincidental but fate, I was at a theatre screening with my cousin Lisa, an aspiring actress and there he was, wearing a microphone that just made him look ten times finer. He was sitting across the room, watching me while I pretended to be invested in the shitty play Lisa put so much effort into. It was nice, I was the one that walked up to him and told him he looked like my future husband. It's a pick up line that I abuse but this time, it hit the right target.
I spent every day with him, he wasn't asking for much. I remember how shy he was when he asked to hold my hand, it made me blush so fucking red. Lisa was the closest thing to a best friend in Rystom Pack, but she's a bit dense when she's hooked into her acting. I'm certain everything I told her went in one ear and out the other, I missed Mirabelle, and Camilla too.
So much excitement was brewing inside me, eager to tell them what had happened to me but to my surprise, the moment I went into Mirabelle's room, she wasn't there. I had checked Camilla's room beforehand because I know they like to hang out there most times.
Michelle was the first person I asked where Camilla and Mirabelle were and I regret it, I wish I had asked someone sensitive. Michelle gave me the cold and bitter truth, she made sure to paint a clear agonising picture with her words. I didn't really believe it until I saw Angel, prancing around like a zombie with her phone glued to her hand.
Mom Ximena sent Adrian to find Mirabelle and Camilla, Santiago accompanied him voluntarily and probably they do everything together. It has been nearly ten hours and there is still no sight of them. Adrian isn't to return to this house empty handed, Mom has strictly prohibited him from returning but mother has told him to come back before it's too late. Molina is staying the night, she had an argument with her mother over her choice of career, I don't see why Aunt Amina is against it. Molly makes enough money as an influencer and will make even more when she studies the arts.
My gaze drifts to Liliana, I'm starting to hate her. I never really cared about her but we were cool, we went to the same clubs and stuff but she never snitched on me to Adrian. When she sees me, she grins at me and in return I roll my eyes, focusing my gaze on the vegetables I'm cutting. Mom and Mother want us to work for it, we've been in the kitchen for the past hour and if I'm being honest, I hate cooking. I love to eat but preparing the food isn't my cup of tea, especially not on demand.
I assumed I would be pardoned from this torment because my flight landed fifteen hours ago but nope, I'm not excused. I'm working alongside Molly, Veronica, Angel and Cecily. The grieving mother, Angel, was caught trying to go out and brought into the kitchen. Everyone is giving her dirty looks, me included. We all blame her for this, if Camilla was here Mom Ximena would probably be focused on her and wherever Mom Gabriella follows, they're like ying and yang.
“Cut them thinner, you know how the fire luna likes it.” Veronica blurts out in a panic.
I'm about to make a smartass comment about her weight and how thin she wants the vegetables to be when the room goes quiet. Vivian quickly tucks her phone in her pocket, sprinting off to anywhere but here. She wants to be far from the drama approaching.
Mom Gabriella walks past us, Mom Ximena right behind her, I let out a sigh of relief. Too soon, Mom Ximena pauses, walking to the table to inspect the vegetables. She looks at the ones Molly cut and smiles, pinching her cheek playfully. Walking past me she sighs, I cut them thin but I'm cutting at a low pace. When she walks past me, she heads straight for Angel. Mom Ximena has always had a loathing for Angel because she anticipated her causing problems with Adrian and his mate one day but no one took her seriously and now, her words have come to pass.
Angel tenses beside Cecily, mom grabs a chunk of the vegetables in her hand and I'm ready to bust out laughing. “What is this nonsense?” she asks calmly, her hand dropping the vegetables back onto Angel's board.
“Ximena,” Mom Gabriella sighs, still at the kitchen counter. “What is it now?”
“This girl is cutting vegetables as if they're to be offered as a sacrifice to goats.” she snarls, her gaze still on Angel.
A laugh desperately tickles the back of my throat, begging to be set free, but I know better than to laugh. If I laugh, I'm next to be made fun of and I can't have that, there's too many weak points to be exposed about me.
“Angel, is there anything you can do right?” Mom Ximena asks, her hand running through her long raven hair.
“She can spread her legs for Alpha like a pro,” someone snorts behind me. My head turns so fast in an attempt to say who made the comment that I almost sprain my neck. To my dismay I see no one and despite how funny the comment is, no one laughs, we all suppress our laughter.
“I clearly asked if you knew how to cook vegetables and you answers yes confidently, so what the fuck is this?” she snaps, her fingers tapping the chopping board.
“I'm sorry, I should have cut them thinner.” Angel says softly, Mom nods, waving her off with her hand.
“Molly, feed this to the rabbits and cook them.” she sighs, walking away from the table. Angel and I gasp at the mention of rabbit meal, she's doing this to torture Angel, they're her favorite animal. I remember Adrian strictly asked everyone not to eat or harm the rabbits, but Adrian isn't here so the pettiness continues.
“Angel, prepare me some hot water and Rachael, leave that, put yourself to good use by the oven.”
I quickly drop the knife on the chopping board, “Yes mommy.” I chime, parading on my way to the oven as told. Mom Gabriella hits me on the head when I walk past her, making me groan in irritation. Soon enough, they both walk out of the kitchen, Mom Gabriella mumbling something about a useless cook which I know is me.
I know I'm to assist Michelle with baking so I prepare the oven and stick two small cake pans inside. Michelle leaves the kitchen to check and go for work, leaving the baking to me and strictly warning me against burning the cupcakes, biscuits and cakes. I heed her warning with attention, never leaving the oven no matter the case.
Past twenty minutes, Mom Ximena returns, without her other half. This time, she's holding baby Ximena in her arms, a coke bottle in the other hand. I can say for certain that this is the most spoilt and loved baby in the pack, not only is she adorable but she's named after the fire luna. I call it a kiss up on behalf of her parents but it's paying homage to the fire luna according to them.
Walking past Molly and the vegetables at the stove next to where I stand monitoring the cakes, she grins at me. “Smells good, Michelle is so hardworking and you my pretty girl, you didn't burn anything.” she grins, pride evident in her smile.
I nod at her and reach my hand to tickle the toddler in her arms but my hand is slapped away instantly and just like that, she's gone. Turning around, she tosses me the coke bottle, I catch it easily. “Don't scorch the cookies because you're sipping coke.”
I chuckle, my hand writh the lid open, I bring the bottle to my lips, sipping it as I look at Molly, who is looking over my shoulder. I too follow her gaze, it lands on Mom and Angel.
“Where is the water I asked for?” Mom asks, bouncing Ximena on her hip.
“Right here.” Angel responds, her hand gesturing to the stove. Mom veers her gaze to the stove and sighs, I know there and then it's over for Angel.
What I don't anticipate is what she says next, “So, you can't even boil water properly you overboiled it.” she berates, her tone filled with unmistakable irritation.
