Mirabelle's POV

Alpha's Hated Mate

Mirabelle's POV

I watch the raindrops rolling down the window, rain is symbolic and it shouldn't be showering mid August particularly since today is a moon night. Mom often reminds us it's bad luck for our pack if it rains on the first quarter moon and best luck for Midnight Saints is when it rains on a full moon. I used to think it's child's play but I witnessed three incidents that have verified the theory of those who came before us right. Apparently witches cursed each zone with bad luck on a rainy particular date on the lunar calendar.

Camilla is sitting beside me, Racheal is on the other side of Camilla and both of them are sulking for different reasons and it's irritating.

“Belle..” Racheal calls out and I turn to face her, she's playing with Camilla's hair. I nod to her and she sighs, “Don't tell me the rain is bothering you?”

I shrug, “First quarter.”

Her eyes roll back as she shakes her head at me, “You need to get over that myth, Mom can't get to you with her voodoo beliefs it's a beautiful day. We're going to Lake Diabolo...” She pinches Camilla who instantly lifts her head from my shoulder, now sitting up straight with a big frown on her face. “We're going to have fun, drink, socialise with the people we've only just seen around school, make the best friendships of our lives more memorable as we wake up shit faced by the lake, outside our tents because we were too drunk to notice we slept outside the tents.”

Camilla laugh, her head falling back when she does “That is a very specific turnout of events Rae.”

“What can I say, I need this break. After Ivan, I don't want to date any more college students who look cute but don't have a girlfriend, there is something erroneous with them.”

Racheal and switching conversation is unlikely, I guess Ivan really hit a nerve and I can only hope she learns from the experience. She loves to go for the older guys, if she's with a high school student then he is her plan B. According to her, college students have more experience and are done with this childish bullshit that we high school students have and they are mature, I find it very unlikely.

Camilla snarls, “You almost got him murdered Rae-”

Racheal's eyebrow narrow at Camilla and she shakes her head, “Umm, he almost tarnished my reputation and I didn't even fuck him yet so I don't get why he was so clingy and psychopathic. Honestly Camilla, I am proud of how you handle the biggest psycho of them all.”

Her comment makes Camilla blush, she is so smitten with Adrian but I can't say the same for him. He is often with other girls and of course Angel, Camilla knows this but as long as she doesn't see it, she's okay with it because he promised to try with her and it's what they're doing, trying. I would never let a man play games with me the way my brother does with Camilla.

The most annoying part is she is a willing puppet in his push and pull game, she renders herself helpless and he takes advantage of it because it's all he knows.

The bus stops and some conversations come to a halt as some continue. Jessica, who is sitting three seats ahead from us, slides out, pursuing the driver.

I noticed a bit of traffic, but now that I look out the window, I see some cars are turning right around. I try to peek through the window to see what's happening but I can't see much. Finally, I give up taping Raquel on the shoulder, she's sitting in front of me with Mikel. She leans forward and turns to me with a smile, “Sup, baby.”

“We stopped moving, do you know what's happening?”

Raquel chews on her bottom lips, and looks outside, as if trying to remember something. “Hmm, hold that thought baby.”

I tense in my seat as she whispers something to Mikel, heading out. Mikel looks over his shoulder and offers me a smile before turning to Camilla and Racheal who are now squabbling over ice cream flavors, he whistles and they both stop chattering.

“Princess, Multi tournament this weekend?”

Camilla grins immediately, “You're on Mikel but you say I cheat, so who's keeping score?”

Mikel glares between Racheal and me, “You can do it right girls and my little mean streak will help.”

Racheal shrugs, “Yes.” She doesn't even think to ask because she loves mystery and doesn't care about risks.

I tilt my head towards Camilla, “Umm sure but what are we keeping score of?” She looks at Mikel and I follow her gaze, these two are more friends than they admit. I'm learning them slowly. They have a secret handshake for a club that they're both part of well I doubt Camilla is still a part of it now that she's a Golden Hunter and not a Veteran.

“A multi tournament is when we play a series of games, nothing drastic just board games and mind games. Mikel holds the trophy currently but it should have been mine.” She pouts.

Mikel chuckles, “Nah uh, you and Tiana failed to cheat me and Grace saw it, that's why I'm the trophy keeper...” Mikel looks back at me as I watch him with wide eyes, trying to see the resemblance between him and his sister. I've been doing this since I found out they're siblings, Tiana frightens me and she knows it. The three encounters we've had, I have been shaking in my boots.

Tiana feeds on fear, and she insists Camilla knows what it feels like to be fed off and to feed on fear.

“Damn it, the roads are closed because of an expectant storm so we drove five hours for nothing.”

I look up to find a very unhappy Raquel, whines fill the bus, several people are complaining. I finally relax, smiling at Raquel, “Oh so where are we going?”

“Home, then school again tomorrow and next week, lake Diabolo is ours.” She grins.

“Smiling because you don't have to lose to me?” Mikel teases. We all know it's directed towards Camilla who appears happy we don't have to go. Raquel gulps, biting her tongue and I sniff and signal her to sit down when she turns to me.

She feels highly insecure about Camilla but she has nothing to be afraid of, Camilla is naive, too naive to do anything she's worried she'd do to her.

Miquel pulls her into his lap, his eyes still with us. Camilla shrugs, “I can beat you anytime Mikel, but it seems it wasn't meant to be this weekend.”

“Of course, it has to be when Tee is around.”

I shake my head, crossing my arms over my chest. Something isn't right about that girl.

Laughter erupts.

Shit I didn't mean to say it out loud.

“She's enthusiastic, that's all.” Raquel smiles but it doesn't reach her eyes.

Camilla falls onto my lap with wide eyes, I reckon Raquel nudged her onto it. “Hmm you're happy, too happy to be going back.”

“Why not, I get to see Adrian. He wasn't too happy when we left this morning and he hasn't texted me all day.”

I place a hand on her forehead, “You're so sweet, I wonder if he deserves you.”

Camilla snickers, “He said he'll try and he is trying Belle. Tiago said it's not easy for him but I've seen the effort, he loves me but doesn't know how to say it.”

I roll my eyes, Camilla gets off my lap, sitting up straight. “I love you Belle.”

“I love you too.” I say giving her a small smile.

Racheal laughs, “You sure Belle isn't your mate Cami? She sure as hell would kill our brother for you.” Camilla wraps her arms around me and smiles, “She is more than my mate.”

Pushing through the front doors I took a deep breath, I missed the smell of joyful soulless people that live in this pack. Racheal drops her bags, “I need a decent meal.” She growls.

I stare as she disappears into the kitchen.

Camilla and Raquel got into a fight, Racheal defended her and it was now between the two of them. Mikel and I watched quietly, until they got tired. So now both are mad at me for not defending them and I just want to sleep.

Adrian's assistant passes by and Camilla smiles, “Hey Freya, is Adrian here? ”

Freya looks up from her tablet and nods, “Yeah, he hasn't left his office today.”

“Thanks.” She breathes.

I'm shocked she didn't go looking for him the second we got inside, she spent the entire six hours of our ride back talking about him and how happy she is to be coming back.

“Little sis, where are you going?” Someone asks behind us. We turn to find Michelle.

“To see Adrian, Freya said he's in his office.”

Michelle shakes her head, “Don't go there, he -”

Camilla shrugs, “I won't bother him, I just want to say something to him and I will be right out. I promise.”

Michelle looks at Freya and nods, okay whatever it is, I don't care and I am tired.

“Later Camilla.” I scoff, walking away.

“I will come and see you in a bit.” I hear her say from where she stands. I drag my suitcases to the stairs.

“Aren't you supposed to be on a trip?”

I tune out their sisterly awkward conversation as I reach the top of the stairs, dragging my suitcases with me so I can sit in my massage chair the second I bathe in rose water. So relaxing, I can already feel it as I open my bedroom door.
