Arielle POV continues
“Hmm, greatness works fast Arielle and maybe you'll meet the devil today.” Clarissa counters, making the hairs on my neck rise at the mention of the devil. Do I want to meet her? I'm not one to scare easy but she seems like one I would definitely argue with because of the undoubtedly the strong personality she has, well according to Clarissa's representation of her anyways.
I don't need to socialise with her, Silverline has brought about a lot of uproar lately, but I'm good as long as they don't attack or start anything with the veterans.
“Shall we go in?” Clarissa asks, nodding to the entrance. Most people have already gone inside, less than ten of us outside, doing lord knows what while others settle into their seats.
Clarrisa leads the way, with me following closely beside her as we make our way inside. Both of us go to our assigned seats, me next to my husband and her with her Beta, a female. Clarissa's pack is led by women mostly, if not entirely and I admire that, she has proved women can do just as good as men when it comes to ruling a large pack like hers.
The meeting is in session, my eyes wander the room until they find Clarissa, next to Takishini pack's Beta. I frown, contemplating why he is here, I thought he quit on his pack and joined Silverline. I brush the curiosity off for a short while, focusing on the matter at hand.
The host, Amaya Hearst and her daughters are hosting. Victoria talks, addressing the lord knows what for minutes that feel like hours then finally concludes.
The main points of the meeting are noted in my notepad app on my phone,
1.There will be an auction tomorrow night.
That's it, that's what we drove over six hours for. They could have sent a memo, an email or WhatsApp message instead. Ryan rises, following one of his friends, most people start leaving and socialising while I stand by the corner of the room, alone, watching them with critical analysis while I sip my flavoured water.
I guess the purpose of meeting in person was to socialize, good for Princess Victoria, she does plan a nice gathering.
I see Clarrisa standing alone once again and I grin, ready to leap at the chance to talk with her again before someone else swoops in. I hastily steady myself, walking to her as I wave, only to bump into someone, our foreheads colliding. It's a female, she smells nice. I lean down to pick my phone and Ryan's car keys as she does too, while I calculate the odds of people being so upset minded that they bump heads in such a wide space.
Strengthening at the same time as the woman, I'm met with a familiar face, Camilla. “Baby,” I jeer. My lips curving into a wide grin, in response she mouths a hey, leaning in for a hug but shortly pulling away. Okay, weird, Camilla loves my hugs.
“I've missed you so much.” I tell her, tucking in the strand of hair that keeps grazing my face.
Camilla smiles faintly, the darkness in her gaze nearly fading but it doesn't. I take a moment to study her, her hair has outgrown itself once again, red strands gracing the ends.
“Are you alright, I've texted you so many times and you didn't respond. Why's that?”
“Oh, I lost my phone.” she says dryly.
“Well, father in law is back and –”
“Dad is back?” she asks, a spark of excitement in her voice but nothing on her face.
“Yep, just like your mother in-law.” I tease.
“I don't have a mother-in-law.” she argues, bluntly. “But tell Dad I will be sure to come and see him soon, I just need to work out my schedule first.”
“Okay,” I nod. Trying to find a way to decipher what is going on with her, the cold demeanour, blank expressions it's all wrong. Something Isn't right here but I don't want to prey just yet, so I go with an easy one. “So,” I begin. “What are you doing here, did Adrian bring you? I didn't see him or you, where is he?”
“Sorry who?”
I let out a laugh but her expression remains blank, staring at me like I cursed the heavens.
“Don't speak to me about him, I don't have any association with Alpha Adrian or his pack so don't expect me to know where he is like I'm not his mother.” she roars softly.
“Camilla,” I gasp. Finally considering whether the rumors are true or not. “You are his luna.” I tell her, earning myself an eye roll from her.
“Me?” she asks, gesturing to herself with a finger to her chest. “I'm nobody's luna Arielle.”
“Hmm, did you guys fight? Come on, you can't be mad like this.” I tell her, unable to see a reason as to why a Luna would deny her Alpha this much and so sternly.
Especially her, she idolize's her mate, Adrian can do no wrong in her eyes even if the rumors are true, she would excuse him.
“Mad?” Camilla chuckles darkly. “You think I'm mad? No, I am not, if anything, I don't give a damn about that fucking idiot. I would have been mad at one point but those days are long gone.” she shrugs, “ I don't care for that man, I cared for him but that was before–” she trails off.
“Before what?” I ask, my voice sounding way too soft than I intended it to sound.
“Before he accused me of killing his heir, before he cursed me out, degraded me, and asked my sister to take me back to my brother where he once took me from because he couldn't stand the sight of me before he took my innocence, before he took mistook the love I had as weakness, before he turned me into what I hate. Before, before he made me hate my reflection and him even more.” she utters simply, every word she utters shocking me.
Just when I open my mouth to speak, a dark shadow falls on me, Camilla looking over my shoulder to where I too veer my gaze. It's Takishini Beta, old beta to be precise. The man is tall, he stands an extra inch in comparison to my husband. “Luna, nice to you.” he introduces, his lips stretching into that smile of his that leaves the ladies fanning themselves for air.
“Likewise,” I retort, my mind half gone, trying to process what Camilla is saying. I know how she is, what she does, it's a crazy thing if you think about it she's always the one to justify Adrian in the most nonsensical ways, she is cursing at him now but the moment he apologizes to her, she goes back to him.
“Can I have a word with luna, I mean–”
“It's fine.” Camilla retorts, rolling her eyes at him. “See you around,” she tells me.
Following Beta to lord knows where, leaving before I can gather my thoughts enough to speak. I have never felt so air headed like I do right now, I just don't know what to believe, if all rumors are true why didn't she come home, and why would Adrian do that to my sweet baby?
The theories in my head and words Camilla left are trying to connect to make sense but nothing comes up, absolutely nada comes up.
I feel Ryan's hands embrace me from behind, I instantly fall into his embrace, relaxing as I wrap my arms around him. Ryans growls in disapproval, stroking my hair with his hand, all while holding me tightly against his chest.
“Baby, are you okay? Do you miss our baby already? I'm sorry if I took too long sweetness.” he grumbles.
I sigh, pulling away from his embrace but leaving my hand on his back. “No, I'm fine. I just saw Camilla and –”
“Camilla?” he asks, cutting my sentence short. “Are you sure? Because, I didn't see her or smell her.”
I nod, yes I didn't smell her but that's not the first time, Camilla can be amazingly good at masking her scent when she wants to but it's never been this good, so good that there's no trace of her in the room.
“Well, where is she?” Ryan asks eagerly, not nothing to conceal his excitement to get a glimpse of his sister in front of so many people.
“Outside I think, she left with the old Beta of Takishini.” I tell him, the last word trailing off my tongue as he begins to walk out hastily, avoiding all forms of attempted conversation from the populace left here.
I too follow behind him, searching the area with my eyes, there's no sight of Camilla or Beta. Ryan turns to me, an eyebrow lifted. “Baby, there's no sight of Camilla, are you sure you saw her?”
“Yes, she's gone but I swear she was here.”
“Alright, if you want to see Camilla just send for her.”
I shake my head, send for her? I don't think I can do that, she's no longer where he thinks she should be. “Let's go home, I'll explain things to you later.” I tell him, tossing him the car keys.
I can't tell Ryan about things just yet, I need him to be sitting, resting and calm when I tell him. I will wait until we get home before I spill the beans, I don't know how Ryan will take it knowing Adrian made his sister cry once again despite all the begging he did to take her back after the last incident.
My husband has three weaknesses, his mom, our son, and me but above all these three, his sister. Ryan loves his little sister to the ends of the earth, he ensures no harm is done to her and if so, he secretly handles the person stressing or hurting her.
Ryan is not only overprotective of Camilla, but exceptionally invested in what brings a smile to that pretty innocent face of hers. Adrian has it coming, even before I tell Ryan I know for certain Adrian will suffer at his hands for every tear he lets his precious princess shed.
There will be no mercy, no helping hands and, Ryan isn't originally a fan of Adrian so all I can do now is hope, hope my assumption and interaction with Camilla was a figment of my imagination and that when Ryan goes to Midnight Saints, he will find her there, clinging to Adrian like she always does.
