Camilla's POV continues
It's a long drive back home, with the sun rising when I'm so far from home but still, I enjoy the quiet time, I enjoy the me time.
However, when I pull up into the driveway of my pack, I notice some off things. For one, I see a pool of blood on the ground somewhere as I drive in and when I finally park my car, things seem to only be getting worse. I see people walking around with bruises and bandages, people that didn't have them on earlier.
My heart drops, some panic beginning to set in as I take in what's really going on here. I gulp, clutching my car keys in my hand, with one hand on my baby bump as I make my way inside the house, I'm panicking now, hard.
Walking through the front door of my house, the first person I see is Mirabelle, pacing around with her phone in her hand.
“Hey,” I greet, my feet changing direction to the kitchen now. I'm hungry for some homemade juice, the food I had on my way back didn't cut it for me, if anything I threw up twice.
“Hey Camilla,” she retorts. “Camilla!” she gasps, making me pause in my tracks.
“Where were you Camilla?”
“Umm, somewhere, driving and fulfilling a frustrating craving.” I fib, biting on my tongue.
“Is this because we didn't let you have your choice of dessert? Camilla, we've been worried sick about you, you've been gone for over 24 hours.”
I nod, proceeding to the kitchen, with a nagging Belle behind me. “I'm sorry!” I finally pay out.
“Why weren't you answering your phone?”
“My phone is in my bedroom,” I tell her, my hand reaching for the juice of my choice. “I didn't want to worry you, I'll never leave my phone again, okay?”
“You had us worried with everything that happened here, I thought the worst, Cami.”
“Everything that happened? What happened here?” I pause, scowling at her.
“The pack was attacked,” she breathes. In response my eyes widened, realisation finally clicking. “Don't worry,” she tells me. “It's all under control, but Karla...”
“Karla, what happened to Karla?”
“Nothing,” I hear Kingston say, his eyes drifting to Belle for a moment before meeting mine. It's a brief stare they share but I can say so much is said. “She missed you a lot, almost as much as I missed this little girl.” he grins, making his way to me.
I frown when Kingston kneels, his hands over my baby bump, places kisses and whispers something. The baby kicks against him and he chuckles, placing a kiss before rising to his feet. “She didn't enjoy your little disappearance but she's glad you didn't kill her.” he teases, his hand taking the jar from me.
I roll my eyes, turning to Mirabelle who fakes a smile. Kingston returns to view, placing a glass of juice on my hand. “Thanks?”
“You're welcome, so where did you disappear to with Arielle's daughter.”
“Went on a drive to another town.” I murmur, taking a sip out of my glass.
“Well next time, don't take the baby with you. She's my only ally in this house, everyone else takes Alpha's side but she doesn't.”
“Dude,” I feign a gasp. “I'm literally letting her have a free place to stay.”
“Don't brag, there is like half a room, so...”
That makes me snort, “There is plenty of room in here. Ask her, she gets to play football all day and I don't complain.”
“This is why she stuck her middle finger out at you at the last scan,” he smirks.
I rolled my eyes, she had her middle finger stuck out at the last scan. She made sure the last time we saw her from the inside was memorable, but seriously, the audacity of this child.
“Where's Karla?”
“Karla has a sleepover tonight right Belle?”
I shift my gaze to Mirabelle who looks at Kingston then nods, “Yes she is.”
“Whose house is it?” I ask, setting my now empty glass on the kitchen counter.
“Err, a girl from her school.” Kingston retorts.
“Mmm,” I nod. “So you sent her to a house that you barely know?”
“I checked with them, I know them, they'll call us if anything.” Mirabelle smiles.
I join her at the table, a sigh of relief escaping me once I'm sitting. “So the pack was attacked? Can I hear more about that?”
“They throw a bomb in the training yard, but luckily no one is severely hurt, they were within a safe distance from where it blasted and four got killed, and the rest made a getaway.” she gulps, her gaze shifting to Kingston.
“Everything is fine now, I just came to pick up some stuff and then I'll be on my way.”
“Way to go?”
“Workshop,” he replies, his hand tracing his hair. “I'll call you later, Belle make sure she eats healthy please don't order junk. Should I make dinner before I leave?”
“No,” Belle yelps. “You should go, I'll make sure Camilla eats healthy.”
Kingston nods, blowing me a kiss from where he stands. “Don't stress yourself Beautiful, I'll see you soon.” he tells me, processing to leave the room.
“Okay, later.” I call out, watching him leave.
That was weird, Kingston never leaves without giving me a kiss or tugging at my hair playfully, and much less not without kissing my belly. He's made it a habit since I decided to have the baby, he kisses the baby and leaves.
Turning to Mirabelle, I notice another thing, her leg is fidgeting underneath the table. When she grasps me analyzing her, she rises promptly from her seat.
“Sit down,” I tell her, my hands crossing over my chest but I instantly cease the activity because of how ineffective it is with my pregnant belly.
Belle hesitates, “I have to..”
I shake my head, glaring at her. “No, not until you tell me what you're hiding from me.”
“I am not hiding anything.” she tells me.
“Belle, out with it. What's really going on here, you and King are acting suspicious, and where the fuck is Karla? I don't buy that sleepover bullshit, did he take her to that psycho sister-in-law of his again?”
“No,” she sighs. Sinking back into her seat, “King doesn't want you worrying because what happened to Tee might happen.”
“I am not Tee, that was a trauma response that day.” I roll my eyes, defending Tee instantly.
“Well, Karla got hit by one of the cars when-”
“What?” I gasp, rising abruptly from my seat, my hand gripping my chest. “Karla got hit by a car and you're not planning on telling me? Where-where is she?” I ask, my voice breaking.
“She's at the hospital, I rushed her there.”
“Take me there right now.”
“Okay, but I'm driving and please don't cry Cami.”
That does it, all the tears I've been holding in the last five seconds begin to fall. I blink them away, Mirabelle scowling but she rises to take me to Karla. Before anything, she goes to the fridge, taking out two water bottles, one guava fresh blend juice container and a yoghurt cup.
I feel bad, if I was here Karla wouldn't have been playing outside, she would have been indoors with me, watching her favorite cartoons. Or if she had been outside, I would have protected her, she wouldn't be hurt, I should have been there for her. If I can't be a good mother to a five year old, how can I be one to a newborn, they're more complex.
I'm right to be giving her away, it's the best decision for her, I'm a shitface of a mother, I went out chasing dick, sixteen hours of driving just for an orgasm. I didn't even think twice about who was looking after her while I was gone.
I'm a terrible person, I might be succeeding at running this pack but I'm failing at the one good thing in my life, being Karla's mother.
