Chapter 138
I woke up to the sound of something shuffling. My body felt amazing because I slept like a baby. I yawned and searched for the source of the shuffling sound only to spot Alexander looking through some papers on his desk. He had that serious look again which made me frown.
"don't look so down love. I'm preparing for a council meeting." he said smiling at me which made my frown fade away.
These days it was so easy to show how I was feeling. I couldn't hide my emotions even if I tried.
"council meeting?" I thought out loud.
I knew that a council meeting always meant there was something major to discuss or attend to. It made my heart beat faster because I knew what was going on, Alexander's throne was at risk. His people were going against him and it was all because of me.
"yes, A few things have to be addressed" he said. I knew he wasn't telling me everything but I already knew what was up.
I sighed "I know what's going Alex, they nolonger believe in you because of me. Now you have to go through all of this. It's not fair at all, you have always protected them" I said shaking my head in disappointment. My heart just dropped as I thought about this situation.
He packed a few more papers in his file before looking at me "Being on the throne is not something you should expect to be easy. It comes with a lot of burdens and I have to carry them. I'm not complaining Lucy and you shouldn't too. That's how it works mate, you will be coming with me to the meeting"
I admired his strength, he was so calm about this whole situation. I know a lot of humans who would be freaking out if they were in the same situation. As for me I was scared, I didn't have a lot of fans around here. In fact his kind wanted me gone and they had a very good reason to want that. I had made a lot of shitty decisions.
I swallowed my fear and nodded "okay I will come with you" besides I had to earn my place around here, somehow.
Good, get ready and we can leave. I nodded as I got up and rushed to get ready. It didn't take me long, I made sure I looked presentable. I wore a long silk green dress that touched the floor. It was loose and comfortable, it didn't hug my belly as well which was good. It was also healthy for the baby to wear something comfortable. Alex looked at me in approval.
"you look perfect," he said handing me his arm and I smiled.
We arrived at the meeting hall after a few minutes. Everyone else was already there, some familiar faces looked at me. Lewis, Keran, Vladimir and others I couldn't remember their names. I sat down next to Alex, not too many people were happy with that and they didn't hide it as they glared at me. I looked away uncomfortable but I wasn't going to walk out or something - hell no.
Alexander looked at them all with a blank expression, nobody could read what he was thinking or tell what his next move was. His silver eyes seemed to look through them all which was really highly intimidating. I wanted to be as strong as he was, to not let anybody walk all over me or even think of doing so.
"I called this meeting today because apparently my distant cousin has decided to challenge me for my throne. He has decided that since I have accepted my human mate it shows that I am not fit for this throne anymore," he said loudly in a strong tone that had me clutching the fabric of my dress. "I take that challenge without hesitation. Let him in," he told the guard by the door
Keran did not look surprised at all, actually a lot of them didn't look surprised at all. It's like they all knew what was going on and it didnt phase them that someone wanted to replace their king. Alexander's so called cousin walked in, he was tall, blonde and to be honest he was just a plain man.
He didn't even look like someone who should be on the throne. He even looked human, I sighed - what was this man thinking challenging a Lycan for his throne. Vladimir scoffed as he watched the man walking in, atleast I wasn't the only one who thought he was ridiculous for challenging Alexander. Two more men followed behind him, they were larger than him in a Grey uniform. I was guessing they were his guards.
He stood in front of the whole council with confidence. Alexander smirked "welcome... cousin" he spat the last word mocking his cousin. It's as if he didn't believe this man was his cousin or something.
"Let's get to the point. You all know why I am here. My people are tired actually they have been tired of being ruled by this ruthless man sitting over there so comfortably while my people suffer. Now he dares to take a human as his mate! That is unheard of for a King, we will not accept this, it's time we stood up for ourselves. This is a mockery of our tradition Alexander" he shouted like an angry child.
To be honest I was shocked at the level of disrespect this man had. Calling the King by his name, even I knew that was very dangerous and challenging him in front of his council just like that. It was insane, I watched everyone's facial expressions. Nobody liked this guy, some looked at him as if he was a whiny little kid while some like Vladimir looked extremely bored as If this was a waste of time.
"Your people? Cousin George you claim to have people that have been watching me, now they are tired of me. so it is fair to say you have been planning this for a while with your little mob is it..." Alexander smirked watching his cousin in amusement
George shuffled in his spot looking a little uncomfortable. "Do not mock me! I speak the truth and the truth is we no longer need a King such as yourself" he said in confidence
"speak like that to my King again troll and I will have your tongue" Keran said in annoyance and I looked at her with a small smile. It was good to know someone was still on my mates side.
