Chapter 61

The journey down the stairs seemed to take longer than I expected but I made it to the servants quarters. I quickly lowered my head to avoid any gazes. Fortunately for me I rarely bumped into anyone, the beasts were asleep. I quickly opened the nearest exit door I could find when I entered the kitchen. Soon I was in the same rose garden were I met the king.

The garden, even at night was a beautiful sight to see. I have never been a flower lover but this garden could make anyone fall in love with them .I walked a bit slower taking in the sight before me,roses after roses and other flowers of different kinds. Someone was definitely obsessed with flowers, but who? I couldn't imagine any one of these beasts taking interest in such beautiful plants.

"Help ... please."a soft voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I quickly turned around and tried seeing through the dark, luckily it wasn't that dark-there was a half Moon. It didn't take me long to find a young boy about the age of thirteen sitting on the ground and tied with a thick rope to an orange tree .

"Who are you?" I asked him in a whisper,he looked so thin and fragile.

He coughed before answering "I'm human like you. My name is Benjamin."

"How did you know I was human?"

He smiled weakly "you walk too slow and you are the only one interested in flowers here besides the king."

I frowned"I walk too slow?",what was that supposed to mean .

"Wolves walk with a purpose,an agenda. They never drag their feet and they never lose focus or waste time admiring pretty little flowers."he explained.

"Oh,so why are you here tied to a tree outside?"I finally asked him the one main question I had going on in my head.Usually slaves were put in cages or killed.

He suddenly frowned "they caught me trying to steal food right from their gardens."

"Why would you do such stupid thing?"I asked him in a harsh whisper.

"Because...what other options did I have !We both know there is nothing for us out there,no food because they take it all leaving us to die out there with nothing. We were starving to death. I had to do something."

I felt sorry for him, such a young soul-he didn't deserve to suffer like this. He was just a child,"you and who?Are there more of you out there?"

He sighed "Yes.Me ,my uncle and my sister. She is pregnant and we don't have anything to eat."

"Why didn't your uncle come here instead of you.You are just a kid."

"He doesn't know I came here. He wouldn't have allowed me but I had to or else my sister will die with her baby."he said desperately

I had to help him escape with me,I quickly took out the pocket knife I hid in my bra. It was actually coming in handy.I quickly knelt down behind him and began cutting the rope. The rope was too thick it was next to impossible trying to cut through it.

"Hurry."he said trying to wriggle his hands out the rope.

I rolled my eyes "This is not a thread you know, relax I'm almost done."

After a few minutes the rope finally loosened and we began making our escape. There were a few patrol guards in every corner,so we had to hide in every bush we could find. It was the most scariest thing I have ever had to do, running from my worst fear.

"One more and it will be safe to run. That way we can make it quickly to our hide out. From here we cannot talk or else they will hear us and if they hear us we are dead. So just follow me,okay?"Benjamin whispered.

"Why should I trust you Benjamin?" I asked him softly, one thing I had learned in this lifetime was not to trust anyone and not to get attached. In this world people are not afraid to hurt other people whether they are your closest friend, brother or sister. It was survival of the fittest and the only person to trust was myself.

He looked at me with his big doe eyes "because you saved my life. Let me save yours,I know this forest like the back of my hands."

I smiled at him and nodded my head ,"okay''

I slowly followed his every move literally. He really did know the forest,we took every little hidden short cut from little weird holes we could fit in,hiding in bushes and tunnels I never knew existed otherwise most of my friends would be alive . We reached another tunnel that would lead us further away from the castle. The little boy stopped before we entered and I looked at him with  curious eyes.

He knelt down a small mud pit and began rubbing mud all over his body. He looked up at me expectantly and tapped his nose twice. I knew what that meant, rubbing mud all over our bodies would keep the wolves from tracking us using our scent. I would have told him I put on a special scent blocking spray but I couldn't afford talking and attracting any werewolves close to us. I quickly knelt down and began rubbing mud all over myself,it was disgusting.

As soon as we were in the dark tunnel we began to run,as fast as we could. I was worried that the boy wouldn't be able to catch up because of his state but I was wrong,he even ran faster than me. We ran for hours until daylight and I couldn't take it anymore.

"What! Why did you you stop?"he asked me with a frown on his face "Are you hurt?"

"I can't ...I can't keep up with you. I need a break-you can go and I will catch up with you,". I said in between breaths.

He shook his head quickly, " I am not leaving you,I told you already. You saved my life and I owe you. We are very far from the wolves territory now, they cannot track our scents so we can take a short break now."

I smiled at him,"Thank you."
