Chapter 201

"Why won't you just leave me alone If you are not going to kill me" I said a little annoyed. My voice was very low because my throat was sore and it felt dry as hell. I didn't get Roman,he looked like he was going to murder me just a few days ago but now here I was alive. He looked almost like the same guy I met the first day, even a little more playful. Was he bipolar or something...worse he could be up to something.

Roman chuckled, a sound that resonated through the room. "Because, my dear Iris, I find you intriguing. You're like a puzzle waiting to be solved, and I do love a good challenge."

I rolled my eyes, still not fully grasping the situation. "A puzzle? This is not a game for me ,Alpha" I spat the last word "this is my life and I don't find you keeping me a prisoner here intriguing"

His lips curled into a sly smile. "Perhaps if you started being a little more open being here wouldn't hurt so much."

I groaned, attempting to stand on shaky legs. "What do you want from me, Roman? One minute you want to kill me, the next you're cracking jokes." This was the most weird situation I have ever been in.

He approached me with an easy confidence, his eyes never leaving mine. "I want to understand you. You're not just an ordinary werewolf. There's something different about you, and I intend to find out what."

Crossing my arms, I shot back, "Good luck with that."

Roman leaned against the wall, studying me. "I'm not one to back down from a challenge. Besides, it's not every day an enigmatic stranger like you shows up in my territory."

"Enigmatic stranger? Is that what you call the person you were ready to off a few days ago?" I retorted.

He shrugged casually. "People change. Circumstances change. Plus, you did manage to survive my pack doctor's care, which is quite impressive."

I frowned, puzzled by his sudden change in demeanor. "Surviving is kind of my thing."

Roman chuckled again, a low, melodic sound. "Indeed, it seems to be. What are you fighting so hard to hide from me, Iris."

The atmosphere shifted, and I couldn't deny the electrifying tension between us. "Well, your curiosity might just get you killed."

He raised an eyebrow, the playful glint in his eyes undeterred. "Bold words from someone who couldn't even escape my pack."

I took a step closer, the defiance in my eyes challenging him. "I wasn't trying to escape; I was just stretching my legs."

Roman laughed, genuine amusement dancing in his gaze. "Careful there next time you try something like this I won't be so nice little one."

Little one?I scoffed, not sure if he was mocking me. "I'm not here to be your entertainment."

His expression grew serious. "I never said you were. There's a reason you're still alive"

A surge of frustration mixed with curiosity coursed through me. "what is it? I'm just a lone wolf, trying to survive."

Roman took a step closer, his proximity sending a shiver down my spine. "There's more to survival, Iris. And I intend to show you a world beyond mere existence."

I narrowed my eyes, skeptical. "And why would you do that?"

He flashed a mischievous grin. "Call it a hunch, but I believe you're destined for something greater. And whether you like it or not, I'm a part of that destiny."

Before I could protest or decipher his cryptic words, Roman disappeared, leaving me alone in the room, bewildered yet undeniably intrigued.

Roman gathered the pack in the main hall, his piercing gaze sweeping across the room as he addressed them. "The recent banshee attack caught us off guard. We're not sure if we got the last of them. Vigilance is crucial in these times."

I was leaning against a pillar, observing the room with a hint of detachment. Roman's eyes flickered toward me. "Iris, care to share any insights on these creatures? Your knowledge might be invaluable."

I sighed, sensing the weight of their expectant gazes. "Look, banshees are not your typical werewolf fare. They're cunning, fast, and damn near indestructible. Killing them is not easy, and they hunt in groups. You probably got a good number of them, but it doesn't guarantee they won't be back."

Murmurs rippled through the room. Roman's eyes narrowed, studying me with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. "You seem to know a lot about these creatures. Why is that Iris?"

I met his gaze, my tone firm. "Survival instincts, Roman. Nothing more. These creatures are not to be underestimated."

He nodded, though his eyes betrayed a lingering uncertainty. "And how many men did we lose during the attack?"

The beta hesitated, contemplating whether to reveal the true toll. "More than you'd like. Our pack is resilient, but banshees don't play fair. They took advantage of the chaos, and not everyone made it out."

A heavy silence settled in the hall. Roman's jaw clenched as he absorbed the harsh reality. "Truthfulness is essential, Iris. I can't lead my pack if I'm not aware of the cost. We need to prepare for what might come next."

I met his gaze, my voice unwavering. "Prepare all you want, but banshees are unpredictable. If they come again, you better be ready to lose more. It's the price you pay for living in the supernatural world."

Roman's eyes bore into mine, and a tense energy hung in the air. "You're keeping a lot from us, Iris. If we're to face these threats together, you need to be honest about who you are and what really brought you here."

I smirked, the air thickening with defiance. "I'm not obligated to share my life story, Alpha. I'm here because you practically kidnapped me . That's all you need to know."

He sighed, his frustration evident. "If you truly are my destined mate, Iris, we can't build a future on secrets."

My gaze hardened, the weight of destiny feeling like chains around me. "Maybe the stars got it wrong, Roman. Maybe I'm not your destined anything. Just a lone wolf caught up in your pack's mess."

With those words, I turned away, leaving Roman grappling with the uncertainty that lingered between us.
