Chapter 217

As the event went on the sun cast a warm glow on the festive scene. Colorful decorations adorned the communal hall, and the children's excited chatter filled every corner. It was supposed to be a day of celebration, a reprieve from the recent challenges that had befallen our pack. Little did we know that shadows lurked beneath the surface, ready to plunge the joyous occasion into chaos.

Amidst the vibrant festivities, two mothers, panic-stricken and wailing, sprinted towards us. Their cries cut through the cheerful atmosphere like a dagger, sending shivers down my spine. The crowd hushed as a wave of tension rippled through the gathering.

"My baby! Someone took my baby!" one of the mothers screamed, tears streaming down her face.

Chaos erupted. Panic gripped the mothers as they clutched their children tightly, casting fearful glances in all directions. The once joyful event transformed into a scene of disarray and terror.

I stood frozen, my eyes wide with shock and horror. This wasn't supposed to happen. The intention was to bring happiness to our pack, not unleash a nightmare. As the gravity of the situation sank in, my instincts kicked in, and my guards swiftly surrounded me, ushering me away from the tumultuous scene.

The wails of distressed mothers, the frantic search for the missing child, and the palpable fear hung heavy in the air. It was a stark reminder that our pack was vulnerable, that the recent challenges were not over, and that someone out there sought to exploit our moments of respite. I felt so guilty maybe I shouldn't have gotten over excited ,maybe I shouldn't have asked to host the event.

The pack's warriors sprang into action, organizing a systematic search for the missing child. Mothers clung to each other, their faces etched with worry and fear. The once-celebratory atmosphere had morphed into a grim tableau of anxiety.

As I was led away from the chaos, my mind raced with questions. Who would do such a thing? Why target the innocence of children? The urgency to find the missing child consumed my thoughts, but a deeper fear gnawed at me—the realization that an unseen enemy lurked among us, preying on our vulnerabilities.

In the midst of the commotion, Roman approached, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "Iris, we'll find the child. I promise," he assured, his voice a steady anchor amid the turmoil.

I nodded, my gaze lingering on the chaos behind us. The joyful event had unraveled into a nightmare, a testament to the challenges we faced as a pack. But amidst the fear and uncertainty, a collective determination emerged—a resolve to protect our own and confront the shadows that threatened our unity.

My mind was all over the place as Roman talked to the council but as soon as he mentioned leaving I focused all my attention on him "Tonight I leave with some of the council members to go form an alliance with Alpha Alexander. We cannot wait any longer. I sent him a letter two days ago and he agreed to meet"

I stood up "I am coming with you right" I said even if he said no I was still going to go with him. There was no ways in hell I was going to let my mate go alone. If anything happened to him over there I would die.

He smiled "yes Iris" he said a little amused at my outburst.

I was a bit embarrassed I had actually stood up which was not necessary but I blame my hormones. I have been on edge lately . Everyone had a smile on their face as they watched me,probably thinking it was cute and shit. Once the meeting was over I wanted to talk to Roman so I rushed over to him before he began discussing other matters.

"Roman, can we talk for a minute" I said

Roman held my waist as he led me to a private corner "ofcourse baby, what is it?"

I widened my eyes "baby?" I smiled as I shook my head . Since when did he call me that.

He kissed my forehead "yes"

I sighed "anyways I wanted to know if you told him. Alexander, does he know I'm coming too."

Roman held my face "he knows and he is okay with it. I told him in the letter you are my mate and if he wants this alliance they will have to deal with it. It has been a long time Iris it's time to move on."

I nodded my head ,he was right "I will go pack, see you later" I said kissing him before walking away.

Under the cloak of the night, our small group ventured into the unfamiliar territory of Alexander's pack. The air held a tense stillness as we moved silently, shadows concealing our presence. My nerves were on edge, and fatigue clung to my bones as I tried to push away the unease settling in my stomach.

Ella's gentle touch roused me from a restless slumber, and I blinked away the grogginess, realizing we had arrived. The stark contrast between Roman and Alexander's domains was immediately apparent. Alexander's territory bore the scars of a forgotten time—an ancient city in ruins, with dilapidated structures and remnants of a past apocalypse scattered in disarray. In stark contrast, Roman's lands, though harsh, held a pristine emptiness, a vast expanse of desolate beauty.

As we entered Alexander's territory, his men, armed and vigilant, surrounded us. The tension heightened with every step, and my heart raced in my chest. A mixture of anxiety and curiosity danced in my veins. I stole a glance at Roman, finding reassurance in the firm grip of his hand, a lifeline anchoring me to the unknown.

The journey through the worn streets felt like navigating a maze of memories lost to time. The occasional rustle of leaves, the creaking of abandoned structures, and the haunting echoes of a forgotten era created an eerie symphony.

Alexander's packhouse loomed ahead, a relic from another age. The worn façade and the air of desolation enveloping it added to the ominous atmosphere. We were escorted inside, where the dim lighting revealed a mixture of wear and neglect.

Alexander, a formidable presence, stood waiting. His gaze met Roman's in a silent exchange, a language of alphas understood without words. The intensity in the air crackled as they acknowledged each other, a subtle undercurrent of tension. My heart sank as I felt Alexander watching me for a second ,it was the most intense moment of my life . I started wishing for the ground to just swallow me.
