Chapter 213
The atmosphere in the private hall hung heavy with tension as Roman, Rya, and I convened to unravel the mysteries that had entwined our fates. Rya entered, her eyes immediately drawn to the jacket laid out on the table. Tears welled up, a mix of guilt and fear evident in my expression.
"Why is my jacket here?" Rya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
I tried maintaining a calm demeanor and gestured to the chair across me and Roman. "Sit down, Rya. We need to talk."
As Rya took her seat, I started with a straightforward question. "Why was your jacket found outside the territory, hidden in a cabin?"
Rya's gaze faltered, avoiding direct eye contact. "I... I don't know. I must have misplaced it."
Roman's eyes narrowed, sensing the evasion. "Rya, we found this in a cabin linked to an attack plan on our territories. Explain."
A heavy silence lingered as Rya struggled to find words. I was growing impatient, so I pressed on. "Rya, we need the truth. Why were you near that cabin?"
Rya's eyes darted between me and Roman, her hands fidgeting nervously. "I... I wanted some time alone. I didn't think anyone would find out."
"Why there?" I questioned, my voice unwavering.
Rya bit her lip, then sighed. "I overheard some pack members talking. They mentioned an attack on the territories, including Roman's. I thought I could find out more, so I pretended to be a part of it all."
Roman's brow furrowed in concern. "An attack? Why didn't you tell us?"
Rya nodded "yes." Tears streamed down Rya's face as she struggled with her response. "I didn't want Roman to get hurt. They said they wouldn't harm him. They said they had other plans."
I leaned forward, locking eyes with Rya. "Who, Rya? Who are 'they'? And what are these other plans?"
Rya hesitated, her breath shaky. "I can't... I promised not to reveal their identities. They warned me that if I did, I would lose everything, that they would kill you."
I clenched my jaw, frustration building. "Rya, Roman's life is at stake either way. The entire pack is in danger. You have to tell us everything."
Rya's tears intensified, and I decided to push further, testing Rya's loyalty and the extent of her involvement. "Rya, we found evidence that they were planning to hang Roman. Do you want that to happen to your brother?"
The revelation struck Rya like a blow. She gasped, her hand covering her mouth. Roman's eyes narrowed, disbelief etched on his face.
"He promised me he wouldn't hurt Roman," Rya whispered, her voice broken. "Please his my mate don't kill him he thinks his doing the right thing his just confused."
I widened my eyes. "Rya... what do you mean mate? Did you find your mate, Rya? Is he involved? Tell us, Rya. We can help you and him, but you need to tell us everything."
Rya, caught in emotional turmoil, sobbed, "I didn't want Roman to get hurt. I didn't want to lose him, and he promised Roman would be fine."
Roman, though visibly affected by the revelation, spoke sternly. "Rya, we need names. We need to stop this threat and remember Rya this pack is your family. Your duty is to protect your family first"
In a tearful confession, Rya finally divulged the names and details.
RYA
A few days ago
The day stretched out in its usual dullness for Rya, the Alpha's little sister. She didn't have many friends, thanks to Roman's overprotectiveness. Roman's insecurities loomed large, casting shadows on anyone who dared to hang around her.
As was her routine, Rya found herself venturing beyond the pack borders. Her knack for sneaking out went unnoticed; nobody realized when she slipped away. Today felt different, though. Something drew her to a cabin a bit further away. Her wolf was restless, a sensation she couldn't ignore. It was her mate calling out to her. The anticipation fluttered in her chest.
Approaching the cabin, the voices reached her ears before she could see anything. Her heart sank as she overheard their conversation – a sinister plot to attack the pack, putting not just Roman but other packs in danger.
"So, the plan is set. We strike Roman's pack first, catch them off guard," one voice said.
"Then we move to the neighboring territories. With Roman weakened, it'll be a swift victory," another voice added
Tears welled up as she absorbed the gravity of the situation. She needed to protect her brother, no matter the cost.
Wiping away the tears, Rya steeled herself and entered the cabin. There, among the conspirators, stood her mate. A fake smile adorned her face as he spotted her. He was perfect – silvery blond hair, piercing blue eyes, and flawless olive skin. Tall and handsome, he was the epitome of perfection. Yet, the unfortunate truth was that he was part of the group planning to harm her only family.
He immediately embraced her, unaware of the turmoil in her heart. Rya feigned enthusiasm, pretending she wanted to be part of their plan, as long as he promised not to harm Roman.
"Why Roman's pack though, you know his my brother?" she inquired, feigning curiosity.
"Roman's one of the strongest Alphas. Take him down, and the others will crumble easily," her mate explained, unaware of the turmoil in her heart. He held her face "I promise if you work with us baby I will make sure nobody hurts your brother"
"Are you sure this will work?" she asked, forcing a skeptical tone.
"Trust me, love. We've planned this meticulously," he reassured her, sealing her deeper into the dangerous plot.
They assured her that they would plead with their leader to spare her brother if she joined them. With a heavy heart, she reluctantly agreed.
In the hushed conversations within the cabin, Rya played her part, extracting information while concealing her true intentions. The air was thick with tension as she navigated the treacherous territory of deception. Each word, each promise, weighed on her conscience, but she knew the stakes were high.
As the plot unfolded, Rya found herself entangled in a dangerous web of secrecy, torn between loyalty to her mate and the need to protect her only family. Roman was everything to her and if it meant betraying her mate to protect her brother then so be it.
