Chapter 83
I groaned a little as I felt something warm on my neck. I felt so heavy and my neck felt so sore especially my right shoulder. Should dead people feel this kind of pain. Finally my so called mate had killed me, it's funny how I remembered it all considering the fact that I was probably dead.
If I was dead why was there another warmness on my forehead now. I was so annoyed by this sudden disturbance. I tried to open my eyes once but nothing happened until I tried the second time and the sudden light tortured my eyes. I squinted a little trying to adjust to the light, was this heaven...so bright.
"Lucy!Lucy can you hear me?"Mary's voice boomed in my ears. This was definitely not heaven...why couldn't I just die!
I felt like slapping Mary away for almost deafening me but I couldn't move. I tried my best to glare at her so she could get my message,she was so close to my poor ears. I don't think she got the message though. My mouth was so dry as I spoke in a hoarse whisper "Water... please" I almost begged.
"Of course!" Her voice boomed again,did she think I was on headphones or something. I groaned,she was killing me.
She helped me drink the water with a straw since I could barely open my mouth. I felt like a cabbage unable to make any movements. After I drank two whole glasses of water I felt a little better. I felt rejuvenated... I have never loved water this much.
"I cannot believe you are the King's mate!"Mary suddenly blurted out making me sigh. She just had to remind me of my unfortunate situation.
I looked at her slowly trying to ignore the burning pain on my neck "yeah and he tried to kill me...the irony" I said in a very low voice.
"What...no. He didn't try to kill you don't be ridiculous."she brushed me off as she put a warm wet towel on my forehead.
I almost scoffed "the vampire demon wolf almost ripped my neck off,I thought mates didn't kill each other. I guess I was wrong about that clearly"
Mary burst out laughing as if I had just cracked the biggest joke of the century. She laughed for a few minutes and a few tears escaped her eyes. I rolled my eyes trying to ignore her. I wasn't crazy,the demon almost killed me-in fact I felt dead already.
"Don't be so dramatic!"she laughed again wiping her tears with the back of her hands "wow humans...a vampire wolf- really."she said trying to control her laughter
"You can stop now" I said in a bored tone.
She grinned "okay my love,listen he didn't try to kill you. What you have on your neck is called a mark. A mark is a way of completing the mate bond. The king is your soul mate Lucy. Now it all makes sense why he didn't kill you the first day you got here. Most humans never make it" she explained
"A mark, completing a bond? I don't understand what you are talking about. I mean I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to look at me differently plus I don't understand what this even means for me to be a mate to an animal." I said staring at her.
She looked hurt when I said my last statement but she quickly brushed it off. "Lucy the mark on your neck,take it as a way of him showing the whole world that you belong to him. Every other male here will know who you belong to and they won't dare make any advances on you unless they have a death wish. It's his claim on you. I know you think that we are monsters but that's not it. He might also seem like one but our king is a good man and all he has ever done is protect us." She said taking the cloth and washing it.
She squeezed the cloth as I waited for her to continue. Something deep inside of me wanted to know more about Alexander or anything that involved him. She placed the towel on my neck "The humans,when they found out about our existence back then they burned us like witches. They said we were abominations and a stain on this earth. I remember those words as they burned my brothers and sisters. I still hear their screams sometimes in my dreams.Alexanders people saved me ,I was only seven years old when Darah held me back and told me everything was going to be okay. He saved me and so many others that night. He wasn't the King yet,only a man saving his kind especially after what they did to him. They experimented on him and his men as if they were insects. But even after that he tried making peace with your kind by signing our first peace treaty. Your kind were so quick to break it just after a few days as if it was all a joke. They raided our new homes, burned down cities and villages hunting us down one by one. They invented silver bullets made with draga a poisonous powder they made just to weaken us. Once small villages breathed that in it was easier to burn them all. Alexander saved us again,he searched for his people that still hid in the forests from your kind. He brought them all to this new home and yet he never asked to be king,"she said with a smile of admiration before continuing.
"He never revealed his blood to anyone. He just kept saving his people,he gave us shelter and freedom. He was only forced to take his rightful place as king after Iris betrayed him and their whole relationship." she said rolling her eyes
I widened my eyes ,my heart suddenly skipped "Tell me more about Iris"
"Of course ,the green eyed devil" she said in disgust.
