Chapter 100
"Congratulations on passing my test, Jacqueline. As much as I hate to say this, you both have my blessings. I just want to let you in on one fact, if for a moment I see that you both aren't separated for one moment. I'm going to embrace the monster I am and go to any length, just so you both are back together. Watch your actions from now on, you just got yourself a number one fan." Vincenzo said, getting on his feet. He had a lot to say, he was going to save it for later.
"Give him the happiness I couldn't, I know it wouldn't go anywhere, but it would help. I tried, just so you know. Trying to train them to be strong and being emotionally and physically present, I got caught up in my own selfish desires of being the Don with the two strong sons that I lost sight of things that actually mattered. I stopped being a father and took on the responsibility of being a teacher. I regret my actions now and I wish I could go back, but I guess we can't." Vincenzo blinked his eyes repeatedly, to stop the tears from coming out, his eyes were already red.
Jacqueline had her back turned to him, but she felt each word, felt his every reaction. Vincenzo wasn't the type to show feelings, this was incredibly hard for him to say. She shut her eyes to stop herself from crying. She understood his every pain, hell she was a victim of a father who didn't want her. What she said earlier was what she wished he did, not what he did. She was thankful he ended up treating Jennie differently.
"Be his mom, his dad, and the brother he lost. Just be there, he will push you away, tell you he needs no one, but stay Jacqueline, please stay. This would be the last time Greta tried that nonsense on him again, I'll make sure of it."
Vincenzo took a deep breath in and out "I'll keep trying to make amends even when I know it's too late. " He said, making his way to the door. He had just opened the door when he felt someone's hand wrap his waist.
"It's not too late, keep trying. I'll talk to him and he will forgive you. I don't know what happened between you two, but I'll solicit for you. Don't stop trying, Godfather." Jacqueline said, crying as her tears wet his clothes.
Vincenzo sighed, leaning into the hug. It's been a long time since someone took the initiative to hug him and maybe that was just what he needed, someone to hug him and tell him things will be alright.
"You shouldn't be up and about, you just got hurt. Go back to bed." He scolded in his usual stern voice.
Jacqueline chuckled, unwrapping her hands from his waist and wiping her face.
"Just promise me you won't stop trying." She said,
Vincenzo smiled, his hands reaching out to touch one side of her face. Jacqueline leaned into his palm "just promise me." She muttered, enjoying the feel of his hands.
"I won't." Vincenzo said. "I promise, I won't. " He muttered, feeling a pang of guilt. Now should probably be the time to tell her what happened to her, but he can't, he won't. He doesn't want this smile and adoration she's showing to him to turn to hatred, it will kill him.
Jacqueline nodded happily "then everything will be fine." She said, smiling.
Vincenzo withdrew his hand, tucking it into his pocket, his other hand gripping the walking stick.
"I'll stop in his room on my way out, get back to bed, baby." He said, flipping his head towards the bed.
Jacqueline covered her mouth, as she laughed. "Don't call me that."
"What? It's a general name and plus you look like a baby, and whine like one. " He said, a smile appearing on his lips.
"No I don't." Jacqueline frowned, her lips puckering and stomping her feet on the floor.
Vincenzo raised an eyebrow "that action right there, like I said, baby." He said, turning to leave.
Jacqueline laughed, going back to bed.
"See you at home, Godfather." She waved, watching the man go.
"Same here, Jacqueline Cruz-Vladimir." Vincenzo replied, exiting the room, leaving Jacqueline to smile at his last statement. She shook her head, got under the duvet and laid back to sleep.
Once outside the room, Vincenzo turned his head and just as he suspected, Alexander was standing there.
"You just had surgery, you shouldn't be on and about." Vincenzo said.
Alexander stared at him, unable to say anything and just kept wondering the type of father he had.
He had woken up and demanded to see Jacqueline. The nurse had shown him the room, not failing to remind him to be careful and not rip out his stitches.
He had ignored her and headed for Jacqueline's room, he had stopped to listen when he heard voices. To his surprise, his father was trying to pay her to leave him. He couldn't be more prouder of Jacqueline's reply to the fvcked up man in front of him and the way she improvised got his heart swelling in a new found adoration. Of course he had never told Jacqueline about Brenda, but he remembered telling her about his father arranging a woman for him to get married to.
"Go back to bed, Alexander." Vincenzo said, bringing him back from his thoughts.
"Why are you like this?" Alexander asked the question that has been bugging him for so long.
"Why am I the father that wants the best for his child? You're welcome though, that girl is a real gem." Vincenzo replied.
"You pushed her to her limits, Vincenzo. I can't remember telling you I want a Loyalty test on my woman. I have standards unlike you, I know how to pick my lady." Alexander said.
"I know that now." Vincenzo stated.
"I'm not done talking, don't interrupt me like that."
