Mafia’s possession:chapter 54
"That won't be easy," she croaked.
"You don't have a choice, Jayz. You get me those documents and you'll have your freedom plus the payment of two million dollars. I intend to pay you for a job well done."
Jacqueline fidgeted and she bit her lower lips as she casted her gaze downward. How in the world will she have access to a safe that belongs to Alexander Vladimir?
Okay, how about meeting Alexander and tell him this, honey do you mind giving me the password to your safe and tell me where you hid it. She groaned mentally. Alexander keeps his private life and business away from prying eyes. In all the time she has been in the mansion, she can't even say what he does with his time.
She only knew he was connected to the mafia from what Chain told her and the conversation she heard the other day. When he had an argument with his father. Aside from that, there's nothing about him that gives the impression that he is neck deep into the mafia world. He is so sleek, one would think he is just a businessman.
Argh!
This is frustrating. "I need time to give you what you want. Alexander is a dangerous man. If we rush things, it will be disastrous for the both of us," Jacqueline stated.
She was shocked at how she spoke up with so much confidence. Looking at his face, she braced herself for any attack.
Chain stroked his chin as he looked at her thoughtfully. "That's a nice suggestion, Jayz."
Her eyes widened in surprise. It's a miracle that Chain reached an agreement with her. She was stunned, she had to take a second look at his face to be sure he was not being sarcastic or setting a trap for her.
This boosted her confidence and so she pressed on. "I am glad you see things from my perspective."
He glared at her. "I don't see things from your perspective. I am only agreeing to this to avoid mistakes. You have just a month to get it and we are done. Have I made myself clear?," he roared.
She nodded quickly. "Yes," she stammered.
"Good. Be a good girl and do as you're told," he said. He took a few steps to the table and opened a briefcase. His eyes gleamed as he took out a syringe. He took off the covering and turned towards Jacqueline.
Her eyes grew huge with fright as she struggled to lose her hands. He got to her and stopped. "I need to put you to sleep," he snickered.
"Don't harm me, I beg of you," her voice trembled in fear as she started to shake.
Her struggling intensified as he brought the syringe closer. He went behind her and covered her mouth. She tried screaming but only muffled sounds came out. Then he stabbed her neck with the syringe.
Slowly, she became weak as felt a thick wave of tiredness spreading through her veins. She twitched and her body became limp.
Alexander was pacing back and forth in the hospital's waiting room. He was worried sick about the state of her condition. Yesterday night, he received a call that Jacqueline was found unconscious in a dilapidated building. Which sent him into shock.
That evening when he returned, he met his men sleeping on duty post and the gate wide open. It took him no time to realise what was happening. And then, Penelope came running to him, crying as she informed him of Jacqueline's disappearance.
After hours of searching fruitlessly, he got the call from an unknown number. He quickly swung into action and was able to bring her down to the hospital.
He was relieved when he found her but his joy was caught short when he saw that she was unconscious.
A nurse pushes a wheelchair past him, he felt driven to ask the nurse about Jacqueline but he quickly held himself. He continued to pace back and forth as he could stop worrying about her.
He hasn't slept a wink since they got here. He made sure she was attended to by the best doctor.
Alexander stopped pacing and stood close to the window which gave the front view of the hospital. He watched as patients were brought in by family and friends. He continued to observe what was going on.
"Mr. Vladimir," someone called.
His back stiffened when he heard his name and swiftly, he turned to see who it was.
"Doctor, how is she doing?," he questioned the doctor.
With a solemn look on his face, the doctor replied, "she is stable now and will wake up when the effects of the drug wears off."
Alexander raised an eyebrow. "Drug?"
"Yes, some of the substance was found in her bloodstream. She had an overdose. Is she into drugs?"
His eyes narrowed to a slit as he cocked his head.Jacqueline never came off as someone who is into drugs. "That's a surprise. She has never given me the impression that she does such. She looks clean."
The doctor smiled thinly. "Looking clean doesn't doesn't mean a thing."
"Trust me doctor, I know a junkie when I see one. She went missing yesterday and was found unconscious in an abandoned building last night. So I brought her here," Alexander explained.
The doctor's eyes lit up with understanding. "Oh, I see. That explains it. We will monitor her and check for possible side effects but for now, she is stable."
Alexander sighed. He stretched his hands for a handshake. "Thanks doctor."
The doctor shook his hands. "You're welcome."
"Is it possible to see her?"
"Sure. You can go in to see her. I need to be in my office."
"Alright, doctor."
In hurried steps, the doctor walked away and his lab coat swung after him like a cloak.
When he opened the door, he peeped in before stepping inside gently. His eyes took in the private hospital room with white painted walls. He wrinkled his nose at the smell of disinfectant which is typical in hospitals.
An IV drip was attached to her hand as she laid unconscious on the bed.
He dropped a light kiss on her forehead as he looked at her affectionately.
He hoped that she would be fine when she woke up. His jaw clenched in anger. He will find the imbecile behind this and make them pay dearly!
