Chapter 31: mafia’s possession

When Jacqueline's body made contact with the water, she screamed. Frightened that Chain would do worse, she made an effort to come out of the pool but Chain kicked her back. The force from the kick sent her backwards.

She felt cold sipping into her skin and she started shivering. "Boss, I will do as instructed," she whimpered.

"Ever since I sent you here, you haven't given me any incredible information. You're wasting my time," he barked harshly.

"P- Please, I will do my best."

"Your best isn't good enough!," he said through clenched teeth.

Chain glared at her and then he crouched down and grabbed her hair tightly in his fist. In rage, he pushed her head into the water, trying to suffocate her.

And Jacqueline kept struggling to release herself from his hold. Her arms flailed about in the water. Deep in the pool, she struggled to breath. She was panic stricken. Will this be the end of her?

What will become of Jannie, her sister?

At that moment, she wished Alexander was close by to help her out. And there was no one around to rescue her from Chain.

Working for Chain is the worst thing that can ever happen to anyone. She was filled with regret about her decision to work for him at the beginning.

Gradually, she started getting weak. Her limbs stopped thrashing around in the pool. Then she blacked out.

He stood up, watching her in the pool, his eyes gleaming with malicious intent. Chain spat into the pool of water. His face had a hostile look. As he contemplated his next line of action. He needed to take Alexander out. And he was ready to employ every trick in his book to do that. Looking around him to make sure that no one was watching, then he walked away.

Alexander sat on one of the chairs in Vicente's study. He could still hear the faint sound of music, he was getting impatient. "Let's get to why we are here. I would not appreciate further delay," he said. The glint in his eyes was filled with contempt.

"Easy, Alexander," Vicente chuckled, then lit a fat cigar. Then he took a long drag and puffed the smoke into the air. His eyes regarded Alexander for a brief moment before he continued. "When is the next shipment arriving?"

Alexander leaned back on the chair as he gave Vicente a cold hard stare. "Is this a question and answer session?"

Vicente could not withstand Alexander's intimidating looks, so he poured himself a shot of vodka as a means to evade the burning coals in Alexander's eyes which made him uncomfortable.

He took a sip and quickly wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "I only want to do business with you. I've run out of supplies and I need to stock up before our clients will leave."

"You owe me money from the last deal we had. Pay up and get another supply," Alexander growled. The nerve. In rage, he got up and banged the mahogany table which made the bottle of vodka to wobble and slide across the surface. But Vicente was fast enough to prevent it from splashing. "You have two days to pay up, else you be sorry you crossed paths with me," Alexander bit out.

Vicente's face became ashen as his eyes bore a frightened look. He knew Alexander too well to take his words lightly.

"Please, give me more time to pay. I ran into debts the last time. Just this once, if you give me new supplies, I promise to pay in full," Vicente pleaded. He knew Alexander would never agree to his plea but he was willing to push his luck.

Alexander ignored him and made his way to the door. As he turned the door knob to open the door, he paused and turned towards Vicente. "I don't like debtors. And I don't joke with my money. Pay up or face the consequences," Alexander threatened.

Then he strode out of the study. When he got to the large hall, he adjusted his eyes to fit into the dimly lit hall. He scanned the hall in search of Jacqueline but she was nowhere in sight.

He brought out his phone and dialled her number. It rang for a few seconds and stopped. She was not answering.

In frustration, he ran his fingers through his hair and cursed under his breath. Where could she have gone to?

As he checked his wristwatch, someone tapped him lightly and he turned to see Shantel smiling at him.

He scowled. " What are you doing here?"

Shantel rubbed his arms lightly and drawled seductively. "Alexander, I've missed you."

"Keep your hands to yourself. Now, step back," he roared. Shantel shivered in shock as she quickly moved backwards.

Without sparing her a glance, he walked away to the dismay of Shantel. She felt like crying for being ignored.

When Alexander got outside, he saw some people trying to bring someone from the pool. Instinctively, he drew closer and rushed over when he had a better view of who it was.

"Jacqueline, what happened to her," he knelt beside her and carried her in his arms.

A man spoke. "We found her in the pool," the man's voice was laced with concern.

Alexander removed his jacket and wrapped it round her. Then he carried her in his arms without saying anything. He was worried and hoped she would be fine.

In hurried steps, he moved to where the chauffeur had packed the car. When the chauffeur sighted him, he quickly got down and opened the door.

Alexander carefully carried her into the car and the chauffeur zoomed off.

The next morning, Jacqueline's eyes fluttered open. Her eyes took in her surroundings, she was surprised to see herself on Alexander's bed. And covered with a duvet. She was dressed in a loose fitted gown.

She raised her head from the pillow and looked around the room. He was nowhere in sight. She sighed deeply and rested her head back on the pillow. Closing her eyes, memories of last night flooded through her mind and she shuddered.

What if she had died?

When she opened her eyes, she froze in shock. Alexander stood close to the bed, glaring at her. And her heart flew to her throat. Did he witness the whole incident?

His husky voice filled the room. "Start talking Jacqueline. What happened last night?"
