Chapter 36:Mafia’s possession
"And what could that be?," he asked
"Boss, Someone has been asking questions about the shipment. I don't know who he is but that's the information I got."
"See to it that you find this person and bring him to me."
"Yes, boss. Don't you think we need to secure the warehouse?"
Alexander dropped the glass of whisky he was holding. He knew that something like this would turn up.
"Worry about staying alive if you don't find the idiot asking silly questions," then he ended the phone call and dropped his phone on the table.
"What was that?," Ramon asked.
"Someone is asking questions about the shipment."
Ramon's face was etched with a worried look. "You should do something to secure the warehouse. If they get to know about where to find it. Things will go wrong. You know a lot of money was invested into this deal."
Alexander took a long drag of the cigar and puffed it. He kept quiet as he continued smoking. As if Ramon had said nothing.
Ramon was surprised to see Alexander in a relaxed mood when he should be worried about the shipment and how to secure it. "You're not saying anything, Alexander."
"That's because there is nothing to say," he puffed into the air, still smoking.
"Listen, you should be worried. You can't allow your rivals to get back at you by destroying that shipment which is worth millions of dollars. A lot went into securing that shipment."
Alexander was amused, seeing Ramon babble to no end like a baby made him roar into laughter. His friend, Ramon, had a confused look on his face.
"You worry too much, Ramon. Do you think I am stupid. I know what has been going on. I did not get this far by being dumb. There is no shipment," Alexander said.
"What do you mean? No shipment? Like how? You told me that the shipment arrived in Milan today. Make me understand because I am lost."
Alexander chuckled. " Obviously, you're lost."
Ramon glared at him as he spoke. You kept me in the dark."
"Sorry about that. Like I said, there is no shipment. I made it look like we are expecting a shipment. I used it as bait to expose the enemy. Someone wants me dead and I need to find out who is sending them after me. So I came up with the shipment story."
"Really, you should have told me. You said someone wants you dead. You're the head of the Vladimir mafia empire, definitely, you'll.have enemies that will want you dead and out of the way," Ramon stated.
"This is quite different. This person wants me dead by all means. And I need to stop them before it becomes too late."
Ramon sighed. "I understand that you're the envy of many people out there. You're very successful and smart. You get things done easily. You're bound to have enemies."
"I know. I need to get them unawares, if I don't, they might succeed. You should understand that I am not invincible. Who knows what they will come up with? That's why I need to be a step ahead of them."
"If you need anything, do not hesitate to let me know," Ramon's voice was laced with concern. His friendship with Alexander has come a long way. He understands Alexander's reasons for coming up with the shipment story just to get the hidden enemies around him.
Years ago Alexander lost his twin brother Alessandro and since then, he had watched him evolve into a powerful man who takes his business seriously and would stop at nothing to bring his enemies down for his own safety.
"I have a meeting to attend, I will see you some other time," Ramon said as he got up.
"Alright," Alexander responded.
Ramon left and Alexander stayed back. People were starting to come into the club. And soon, it will be filled up. That's why he prefers the VIP section which gives him privacy.
Someone knocked on the door and Jacqueline got up from her bed to open the door.
"You're back," Jacqueline said.
Granny Penelope smiled at her. "Yes, can I come in?"
Jacqueline opened the door wide. "Yes, you can come in."
She came in and Jacqueline closed the door gently. Penelope sat on a chair and Jacqueline sat on her bed. She was surprised to see Penelope in her room. She hardly comes into her room.
"I know you're surprised to see me here. I got back early from where I went. So I decided to see you, there is something I would like to discuss with you," Penelope said.
Jacqueline became anxious to know what it was. "Did something happen?"
Penelope smiled, " Not at all. I will be travelling to Spain in a few days. My niece is getting married and I have to be there."
Jacqueline's face beamed into a beautiful smile. She clapped her hands delighted at the news. " This is great news. I am happy to hear that but I'll miss you. You're leaving me behind," Jacqueline pouted.
Penelope laughed heartily. "Don't be sad, I won't be gone for too long. I'll be back in no time. I know that you're new around here, can you manage to take care of Alexander in my absence?"
"You speak of him as if he is a baby. Well I can handle things around her while you're gone," she responded.
"That's good to know. I know how hard he can be but don't worry, he means no harm. I will put you through before I leave," Penelope said.
"Alright, I will do my best," Jacqueline said.
Penelope smiled at her. " I trust you. Well, I'll be in my room now," Penelope got up and left.
Jacqueline was not happy that Penelope would be leaving her to Alexander's insanity. How will she survive in her absence?
She grabbed her pillow and screamed into it. Then she flung the pillow which bounced on the wall.
Her phone beeped and she quickly grabbed it from the side table. She tapped it, a text appeared on her screen;
You're playing with me. Give me what I want or you'll pay dearly.
