Chapter 30:Mafia’s possession

"I - I don't understand," she stuttered in confusion. He just said he knew why she was here. Oh no, this cannot be happening.

Did Chain spill anything to Alexander? Her breath hitched in her throat as she tried to stay calm.

"Yes, Jacqueline. You're here to accompany me to a dinner party. So wipe that look off your face," his pale red lips curled up in a smile. She could see the mirth dancing in his eyes.

Jacqueline nearly collapsed in shock. What the hell!! Did he just play a fast one on her? Argh! At that moment she felt like strangling him. "You're impossible. Stop toying with me!"

Alexander drew closer to her. "You look beautiful when you're angry. You should have seen the look on your face, it was priceless," then he pecked her and walked towards the door.

He paused and turned towards Jacqueline who stood glaring at him. "I didn't get you dressed up just to stand there like a statue. Don't keep me waiting." Then he threw the door open and left.

At that moment, Jacqueline could feel her blood boiling in anger. She stomped her feet in rage. This was the height of it. He never gets tired of using her for his amusement.

She was tempted to head back to her room and lock herself in. But knowing Alexander and what he was capable of, she decided against it and followed him.

The chauffeur opened the door and she joined Alexander in the luxurious car. Then the chauffeur ignited the engine and drove off.

Twenty minutes later, the chauffeur pulled up in front of a building. The chauffeur opened the door and Alexander stepped down. He got the door opened for Jacqueline and she stepped down. Holding his arms, they walked into the building which had one of the architectural designs.

His muscular shoulder fitted nicely into the tuxedo. His expensive shoes showed his opulence. And he emitted a commanding presence which seemed to draw attention from everyone present.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter and music played lightly in the background. Her eyes took.in her surroundings, she wasn't surprised to see the rich display of wealth and opulence. Some of the men were also accompanied by women who were elegantly dressed.

She felt tense to be amongst them. She had never been exposed to such gatherings.

Alexander seemed to have noticed how tense she was. "Relax, Jacqueline. It's just dinner and nothing more."

She exhaled. "I know."

A middle-aged man with grey hair approached them, smiling. He was holding a wine glass in his hand. "Alexander Vladimir. Glad you made it. For a moment, I thought you wouldn't honour the invitation. I see you have someone with you. I haven't seen her before." The man said, running his eyes on Jacqueline.

Alexander snaked his arms around her tiny waist and Jacqueline felt safe in his arms. "Jacqueline, met Vicente. And this is Jacqueline," Alexander introduced.

The man's eyes sparkled. "She is a beautiful woman. You always have eyes for the best, Alexander."

Alexander's eyes narrowed as he stared coldly at the man. "Vicente, watch it."

"Come on Alexander. It's just a compliment. I'd like to have a word with you." Then Vicente turned to Jacqueline. "You're welcome to this event, enjoy."

"Thank you," Jacqueline replied.

"Make yourself comfortable. While I discuss with Vicente, I will be right back," Alexander said.

",I will be waiting."

Then Alexander left with Vicente. She felt alone. A waiter pushed through with a tray and Jacqueline quickly grabbed a glass. And sipped it, then she decided to sit somewhere and wait for Alexander.

She found an empty unoccupied seat and she sat down. Waiting for Alexander. The music beat had changed into a melodious tone which made some of the people sway their bodies to the music playing.

Everyone seemed to be having a nice time. She felt pressed and so she decided to use the restroom. Gently, she dropped the wine glass on the table and made her way to the restroom before her bladders would burst open.

On her way, she almost bumped into someone and she froze when she saw who it was.

"You bitch! Are you blind?," It was Shantel, the woman she saw at the hotel.

Jacqueline stepped out of the way. "I will not stand and watch you insult me," she spat.

Shantel eyed her like she was a piece of trash. "And what will you do?" she glared at Jacqueline.

"Like I said, do not insult me," Jacqueline repeated. She was in no mood for a verbal exchange.

Shantel drew closer to her. "Even if you dress up nicely, you'll always be a dirty low life. Stay away from Alexander. He is mine."

Jacqueline scoffed. "You're silly to think that Alexander is yours.I'd suggest you leave me alone."

"You think you're smart, huh. Just know that I won't let this slide," Then she brushed past Jacqueline, hitting her shoulder in the process.

Jacqueline sighed deeply. Then she quickly went into the restroom. When she was done, she came out of the restroom.

The dinner party was bubbling with energy but she needed somewhere quiet to clear her head. So she went outside. She walked farther from the building, then she came across a pool. The water was shimmering in the moonlight.

When suddenly she felt a presence, swiftly she turned.

"Surprised, huh." It was Chain glaring at her as he took slow steps towards her.

And she drew back in fear. "Chain. Why are you here?"

"You were given specific instructions and what did you do? Fall in love with him."

She shook her head vigorously. "It's not what you think. I am doing my best."

"Yea, doing your best," he sneered. "By falling for him. You were supposed to stick to my instructions. Your sister will pay for your carelessness," Chain said, his voice laced with threats.

Jacqueline's eyes widened in fear as Chain grabbed her. "I will make you pay for disobeying me," he thundered.

That moment, Jacqueline lost her footing and she fell into the pool.
