Mafia’s possession:Chapter 38
Jacqueline breathed deeply and she answered. "I lost my bracelet the last time I cleaned his room. That is why I searched his room. That bracelet was an important gift from my mother before she passed.
When she saw that her words had yielded a positive impact on Penelope. She decided to take it a step further to gain sympathy. Then she burst into tears. "It is the only thing I have that reminds me of her, now I've lost it."
Penelope got up immediately and threw her arms round her. "You should have said something and I judged you wrongly." Then she pulled back and wiped Jacqueline's tears. "Stop crying. I hate to see you cry." Then she hugged Jacqueline again, affectionately.
And Jacqueline smiled nervously when Penelope gazed at her softly. She felt like smacking her head on the wall. What had she done?
She couldn't believe she lied smoothly to granny Penelope just to hide the truth. She prayed silently that Chain will put an end to this twisted game he is playing and save her the stress of weaving webs of lies to avoid problems.
"Sit with me, Jacqueline," Penelope said and she joined her on the couch. Then she continued. "Jacqueline, I know this might seem awkward to you and open up old wounds. What happened to your mother?"
Jacqueline blinked repeatedly to hold back tears.Penelope noticed her discomfort. "I am sorry. I shouldn't have asked you that question. You don't have to answer."
She rubbed her eyes and sniffed. "Don't feel bad for asking. I lost my parents in an auto crash. It's just me and my sister," She held herself from divulging more details. She wouldn't want to say more.
"I am sorry for your loss. It must have been pretty difficult for you and your sister."
Jacqueline nodded. "Yes, it's been tough but life has to go on."
Penelope smiled at her. "That's the spirit. And I hope you get to find your necklace."
She blushed , avoiding eye contact. "I hope so." Not wanting to drag the conversation further, she sprang up. "I need to clean up the kitchen and go to bed."
"That's right. Do have a lovely night's rest," she cooed.
"And you too," Jacqueline smiled. In hurried steps she left the room, closing the door behind her. She leaned against the door and released a slow breath.
She caught the sound of footsteps and dashed to the kitchen. Not wanting to have another horrible encounter with the maids.
After cleaning the kitchen floor, she quickly washed the used dishes under running water and wiped the sink clean. The tray containing her food caught her attention but she was too exhausted to eat anything.
With the back of her hand, she wiped the beads of perspiration that had gathered on her forehead. Her throat felt parched and she craved a drink. She opened the refrigerator and poured a glass of water which she gulped down.
She felt a presence which prompted her to turn around but she saw no one. All she needed was a good sleep before she started hallucinating, she thought aloud.
She closed the refrigerator and left the kitchen for her room. After a shower, she wore her nightie and slept off the moment her head touched the pillow.
It was morning, the golden glow of the sun rays streamed into the room through the partly covered window.
"Wake up, Jacqueline," She heard someone calling her in her sleep.
She felt a gentle tap and then, she turned to the other side of the bed, still sleeping. Hugging the pillow tight to her chest.
"Jacqueline, wake up."
She opened her eyes, still feeling groggy from sleep. She sat up and rested her head on the headboard, yawning.
"Good morning, granny Penelope."
Penelope placed her hand on her waist, looking at her. "You must have been exhausted last night for you to sleep this long. It's 11 A.M already and you're still in bed."
"What!! 11 A.M?Jacqueline's eyes widened in surprise as she flew out of the bed. "I need to get ready I know there is work to do," she said as she hurried to the bathroom.
"Jacqueline," Penelope called and she stopped.
"I overslept. Let me have a shower, I will be right back."
"I was worried when I did not see you. I was relieved to see you sleeping. I also want to inform you that I will be leaving for Spain today, I have a flight to catch by 2:P. M."
Jacqueline nodded. " I will miss you," she whispered. And then she hugged Penelope.
"Don't make me cry, I will be gone for just a few days. Don't feel sad," Penelope consoled. " Go and shower, I will be waiting for you."
She rushed to the bathroom, brushed her teeth and had a shower. She came out feeling a refreshing change in her mood, which was a good start.
A neat pile of uniforms was already placed on her bed. She wondered who kept it there and made a mental note to ask Penelope.
When she was done, she left her room and went to the kitchen to grab something to eat. She was delighted when she saw Penelope making breakfast, her stomach rumbled.
"Sit down while I get you something to eat," Penelope said.
She was grateful to have someone like Penelope who was caring and kind hearted. " I found a neat pile of uniforms in my room."
Penelope smiled brightly. "I brought them for you."
Jacqueline felt happy. "Thanks."
"You're welcome."
She sat on a chair and in a few minutes time, breakfast was served. They ate quietly. And after that, the dishes were cleared.
"I'd like you to have this," Penelope handed a piece of paper to her. "It contains all you need to know to make your job easier."
Jacqueline collected the paper and glanced at it. "Okay."
"You can reach me on the number written on the paper. One last thing, I'd advise you to do your duties as expected of you. Am I understood?"
"Yes," Jacqueline responded as she folded the paper neatly and kept it in her pocket.
Soon afterwards, the driver took Penelope to the airport.
Jacqueline went to her room and quickly grabbed her phone, then she got the mop and a bucket of water to clean Alexander's room.
When she got inside, she decided to play a song from her phone. It was one of the songs being played at the club.
The music started playing and she began cleaning. At one point, she dropped the mop and started dancing to the beat. Back at Dynasty Club, she was one of the best dancers. She was feeling the beat and then, she began to whine her waist like she had always at the club.
Suddenly, she heard someone clapping. It got her attention and turned swiftly, her jaw dropped, almost hitting the floor when she saw who it was.
