Chapter 97

Vincenzo clenched his fist, he wasn't liking the doctors insinuation.

He cleared his throat, restraining from giving her a piece of his mind.

"Are you okay, sir?" The nurse asked, her tone filled with concern.

"Better than you can imagine." He said, walking off.

If he stayed a minute longer she would probably dread what he was about to say.

Vincenzo goes upstairs, it's easy to find Jacqueline's ward, it's just where the nurse said it will be. He entered the room to find her asleep, he considered waking her up, but decided against it, he'll just wait till she wakes up. Vincenzo settles on the chair in the room, watching her. He started seeing the reason his son won't let her go. She's beautiful to begin with. But there's this feeling he can't shake off, the feeling like he had seen her somewhere. It's not exactly her, maybe an older version of her. He waves the thoughts off when he doesn't remember.

Not up to thirty minutes later, Jacqueline opens her eyes. She takes a moment to register in her environment.

"Where am I? " She mumbles, wiping her eyes.

"In the hospital." Vincenzo replies, startling her.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Jacqueline jerked up from the bed, shaken up.

"You hurt me, Jackie. Careful, you were hurt pretty badly." Vincenzo said, placing his palm on his chest. Jacqueline just stares at him, a blank look on.

"You don't know me? That's a shame. I happen to be the father of the man you're frolicking with." He said.

"I know who you are and you mean sperm donor?" Jacqueline asked, her tone is cool and collected on the outside, but on the inside, she's terrified, not of the man in front of her, but for Alexander. She can't help but wonder where he is and what happened to him.

"Ouch." Vincenzo said, looking her up and down. This wasn't the reaction he was expecting from her. But it's good though, if she can keep it up, he just might consider tripling his gracious offer.

"And what me and Alexander have is not as simple as you termed it. Don't do it again." Jacqueline warns. She has no idea how she's getting the nerve to talk.

"Do what? You've got a lot of nerve, don't you, baby." Vincenzo stated, watching her every reaction.

"First of all, eww. That's disgusting, I'm your son's woman not some whore,. Don't say it again."

Vincenzo chuckled, feeling impressed. He was enjoying the spitfire of a girl in front of him. If she made things easier for him, he would give his son a lecture to increase his standard in women. Honestly, Jacqueline reminded him a lot of his wife, Ariana. And that's exactly why he is scared. Good women don't last on earth, misfortune and ill luck loves to dig it's paws in them. He didn't want a situation whereby his son will go through what he went through, losing a wife at a tender age.

"Two warnings in what.. Two minutes. You're on a roll, girl. Whereas I thought baby was a general word. " Vincenzo asked, wanting to keep the conversation going.

"Not in my case." Jacqueline shrugged, getting off the bed. The moment her feet touched the floor, she felt empty, her hands touched her belly and Vincenzo cleared his throat, diverting her attention back to him.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"Where's Alexander, I need to see him." She answered.

"I can't let you do that." Vincenzo said.

Jacqueline stared at me, an empty laugh escaping her throat

"You... You are going to stop me?" She asked, her eyes doing a whole body scan of him.

Vincenzo smirked, loving her guts. "No, but the doctors will." He said.

"What's happened to him?" She asked, her steps faltering. The way she went from her brave bravado to scared and terrified amazed him.

"Relax, he just got out of surgery and is currently asleep." Vincenzo said, couldn't help but comfort her. He shut his eyes, this is certainly not what he came here. He wanted to pay her off to leave Alexander. But the way she's overprotective over him is not helping the process.

Jacqueline nodded, a wave of dizziness hitting her. She grabbed the bed, settling on it.

"How bad was it?" She asked.

"A few cuts maybe, a broken ribs."

"Did you just use the word 'maybe?'" She asked, interrupting him.

"Yes. I haven't gone to see him yet." Vincenzo said, wondering why she asked the question.

"Jesus Christ. You didn't see him yet and you're here? What type of a father are you?" Jacqueline asked, baffled at the man's uncaring attitude.

"You're not happy I came to see you first? You might just be my favorite." He huffed and Jacqueline couldn't help but slap her forehead.

"Spare me that crap. We both know you're not here because you care. You're here because you want to pay me off, isn't that right, Vincenzo?" She asked and Vincenzo started to feel annoyed by her language.

"Okay, watch your mouth, Jacqueline." He warned.

"No, you watch your fvcking character. How did he survive and keep up with you?" Jacqueline asked.

"By being smart and keeping his mouth shut!" Vincenzo said sternly.

Jacqueline scoffed, disgusted by his presence.

"Respectfully Vincenzo, you are the worst father!" She said in anger.

"How was yours? Seeing as he let you work in a bar, he wasn't that much of a great father, was he?" Vincenzo fired.

"In contrary, he was the best father I could wish for, even though he wasn't rich, he was emotionally and physically present. Not only showing up when he needed me to do his bidding, unlike someone sitting right in front of me." Jacqueline said, near tears. What Vincenzo said didn't hurt her, her tears was because the man she loves just had to grow up with this sorry excuse of a man.

Vincenzo paused watching her, the girl just kept wowing him by the minute. A part of him was reconsidering his decision.
