Mafia’s possession: Chapter 55

He heard approaching footsteps, he narrowed his eyes and turned swiftly towards the door. Which creaked open and Santos stepped in. Alexander turned back facing the bed as his eyes softened in an affectionate gaze, looking at Jacqueline.

Santos bowed. "Boss, we checked the building as instructed. It seems the person behind this, fled after committing the act," his voice bounced on the walls.

Alexander's hand drifted to Jacqueline's hair as he smoothened her curls. Seeing her lie motionless on the hospital bed made him angry. "You mean to say that you found nothing? Not even a single trail," his voice was even.

He couldn't hold it in any more and his hands tightened into a fist, turning swiftly towards Santos who took a step back when he saw the burning flames of rage in Alexander's eyes.

"Boss, we searched the whole building and we found nothing," his voice trembled. "The only thing we saw was her phone at the scene."

His gaze shifted to a glint of curiosity. "Let me have it."

Santos stretched his hands towards Alexander who snatched it away from him. He pressed the power button but the phone did not turn on. "The battery must be down. I want you to charge it and bring it to me later," he commanded.

And Santos quickly collected the phone from Alexander. And shoved it in his pocket.

"Those fools at the gate, what did you do to them? If it wasn't for their incompetence, Jacqueline would not be in this position," Alexander spat.

Santos has been working closely with Alexander for years. He knew that every act of incompetence is met with the right punishment. Scratching his chin,he spoke in a low tone. "They have been locked up awaiting your judgement. I've replaced them with capable men."

"Good," Alexander nodded his head slightly as a cruel smile stretched across his face.

"From what I found out, the men became unconscious after eating lunch," Santos said.

He pursed his lips as his face twisted in anger. "What did you just say?," he asked.

Santos became uneasy as he tried to remain calm under the glaring eyes of Alexander. "They became unconscious after eating."

"Who prepared lunch yesterday?,"Alexander questioned.

"Ann," Santos replied.

"Make sure she doesn't leave the mansion until.I return. Something is not right. Why will she lace their meals with sleeping pill and still remain in the mansion?," Alexander's brow furrowed. He just can't place it but it seem odd.

"Boss, are you saying that she has no hand in it?"

"She prepared the meals but I don't think she is stupid enough to do that. Someone in the mansion did it. The main targets were the men keeping watch. What I can't say is who exactly?"

Jacqueline has been awake for sometime. She regained consciousness when Santos walked into the room but decided to pretend to still be unconscious.

While Alexander had his back turned towards her, she opened her eyes for a few seconds before shutting it close.

Her heartbeat increased when Alexander spoke about his suspicion. She just couldn't help how she hated herself for dancing to Chain's tune. Worst off all, Alexander had instructed Santos to return the phone to him after charging it.

If he gets to read her text with Chain, it will be the end of her. She managed to push her troubling thoughts away and listened to their conversation.

"How about I check the recordings from the CCTV cameras installed in the mansion," Santos suggested.

Her heart almost flew from her mouth. Hold on a second. So there are more cameras? She was only aware of the ones in the hallway. That's why she hid behind a wall before entering the kitchen that afternoon. That way she won't be seen going in or out. What if it actually captured her?

Alexander clasped his hands behind his back. "I checked it yesterday and I found nothing."

Jacqueline breathed a sigh of relief and she heard Santos speaking.

"How is she boss?"

Alexander moved towards the bed and stopped. Jacqueline remained how she was on the bed without changing position. She hoped that Alexander wouldn't notice anything.

"The doctor said she will wake up soon. She is stable for now," his voice was calm.

"That's good to hear," Santos said.

"What about the supplies? Has there been any payment for it?," Alexander asked, changing the subject.

"It will be made today in a casino. The mode of payment will be made in cash. Our client wants no trace that will lead to him," Santos replied.

"You can leave now. Make sure you handle the transaction smoothly."

"Alright boss." Santos turned to the door and his hand drifted to the door knob. As he was about to twist it, he stopped when he heard Alexander's voice.

"Santos, I want no mistakes," his voice had a subtle hint of a warning.

Santos nodded and opened the door before stepping out. Alexander moved to the chair and sat down.

The casino was just a front for his business deals which ran into millions of dollars. Most times it was done discreetly in his yacht. For years, he has been in the supply of narcotics which were in high demand. He started off working for his father before going solo to the indignation of his father.

Now he has several distribution chains all over and maintains full control over other businesses.

The only known establishments he has are hotels scattered across different countries, casinos, restaurants and recently he delved into real estate.

Money was never his problem. And the power he has made him more dangerous.

His phone rang and he brought it out from his pocket.

"Alexander, where have you been?," his father asked stiffly.

He ran his fingers through his hair. "I am not a baby," he bit out.

"Since you've continuously ignored me. I am leaving, I called to inform you. You should come to terms with the fact that you're expected to take over. You'll be making a terrible choice if you don't."
