Chapter 33:Mafia’s possession
Jacqueline's eyes hardened with resolve as she got up from the floor. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and stormed out of her room, the door slammed behind her.
She quickly hid behind a wall when she saw Alexander leaving his room. She watched keenly as he climbed the stairs, heading towards the door. Then he got the door open and walked out.
In order to be certain that Alexander is going out, she quickly climbed the stairs and ran towards the window, where she watched him as he got into his car and drove out.
It's now or never. Chain had threatened her. And she has just twenty-four hours to deliver her findings to Chain.
Her heart hammered against her chest as her feet flew across the stairs as she bolted to Alexander's room.
The mansion was quiet and Penelope was nowhere in sight. This was her opportunity to dig around for information.
She twisted the door handle and got into his room. Gently, she closed the door. Everything was neatly arranged. She was scared that there was a CCTV camera somewhere but she was desperate. It's either she gives Chain the needed information or stands the risk of losing her only sister.
Jacqueline swung into action and began to search his room for anything that would give her a clue. She checked the shelf in his room, yet nothing.
The books were neatly arranged on the shelf. She checked properly and she found nothing.
She checked the bedside drawers and found a brown envelope. Then she took out the brown envelope. It was not sealed so she opened it and brought out a piece of paper which was folded neatly. She unfolded the paper and saw random numbers written on it. It had nothing that would be of interest to her.
She sighed in exasperation. She was exhausted from everything that had been happening to her. It was like she was caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
At that moment, she wished her predicament was only a nightmare. One that she will wake up from. Sadly, it was her reality and she was stuck with Chain and his insane demands.
Alexander is a hard nut to crack. Ever since she started working for him, the only information she had managed to glean was little and could not be used for anything useful.
She heard footsteps approaching and she quickly kept the envelope back in the drawer and made sure everything was in place. Jacqueline heard a voice from outside and became horrified.
It was Alexander. Why is he back so soon? Her eyes darted around the room in confusion, looking for where to hide. She wouldn't want him to see her in his room. Then an idea flashed into her mind. With the speed of light, she ran into his bathroom just in time because at that moment the door opened and Alexander stepped in.
Behind the bathroom's door, Jacqueline stood in fear as she breathed rapidly. If Alexander sees her here, it will be catastrophic.
She managed to calm her raging nerves and paid attention carefully as her ears were pinned to the door.
Alexander got in and he stopped in his tracks, there was something odd about his bedroom. It was clean and without a spot. His room was neatly arranged but he was sure that someone entered his room.
He moved around as his eyes scanned the room. A familiar scent hit his nostrils, teasing his senses. Nothing ever escapes his notice. Rubbing his chin, he smiled at what was unfolding. He has never been caught unawares. For now, he will play their little game.
Suddenly, his phone rang, jolting him from his thoughts. He checked the caller ID and realised it was his friend, Romano. Then he answered the phone.
"Alexander, where are you? I have been waiting for you," he heard Romano say over the phone.
"I will join you shortly. I forgot an important file at home. So I came back for it," he responded. He had an important meeting to attend with Romano by 11:00 A.M
And had forgotten about the file which was crucial to the meeting.
"Hurry up Alexander. I still have some important things to do after this meeting. By the way, what about the shipment?," Romano asked over the phone.
Alexander cleared his throat. "The shipment just arrived at my warehouse right here in Milan."
"That's great news. Well, I will see you at the meeting. You better hurry," Romano said and then the phone call ended.
Alexander opened the bedside drawers and took the brown envelope. His feet padded towards the door, he twisted the knob and walked out of his room.
In the bathroom, Jacqueline was still behind the door. Her heart had leaped for joy when the information she had been seeking, fell on her laps.
Now she has something worthy of Chain's attention. She was sure he would find this information useful. Her hands trembled as she typed a text on her phone.
Hello, boss. I've got something you'll be delighted to hear. Alexander's shipment just arrived. The shipment is in his warehouse here in Milan.
Then she sent the message to him. Her phone beeped a notification to indicate that the message had been delivered.
She was torn between her forced loyalty to her boss and being a snitch against Alexander. She had no choice in all of these because her sister's life is at stake. If she chose to disobey Chain, then it was over for her. Chain now knows alot about her.
Which was still Alexander's fault. Meeting Alexander that night was the wheel that set her misery in motion.
Her phone beeped and she tapped the screen to see what it was. It was a new message from Chain.
This should be worth it. I wouldn't want to be disappointed . Get more information. For now, You're off the hook.
She heaved a sigh of relief, it seemed Chain was pleased with the information she had given him.
There is still work to be done in the mansion. Without wasting much time, she opened the door and almost collided with the person she saw.
