Mafia’s possession:Chapter 42
Jacqueline's eyes flickered open and she quickly shielded her eyes with her hands from sunlight. It was morning already. As she brought her hands down, she saw someone staring down at her.
She quickly sat up.when she realised it was Alexander. His grey orbs pierced through her.She was hit with surprise.
How long has he been standing there?
"How did you get in here?," she asked. She could not recall leaving the door open last night.
He looked down on her like she was an intruder. Then he looked at his expensive wristwatch, ignoring her question. "We have been waiting for you to get breakfast ready. You should be the one waiting, not the other way round. What kind of personal maid wakes up late?," his nostrils flared in anger.
Jacqueline quickly got up. Her voice was shaking. "I am sorry. I'll make breakfast right away."
He looked at her for a brief moment b and then spoke. "You seem to be incompetent. Penelope always does her duties on time. While you, on the other hand, need a reminder. If you are tired of working, say so," he growled.
She was taken aback by his harsh words as she wondered what must have triggered his anger. The clock on the wall says 7: A.M
She has always resumed her duty in the mansion by 8 A.M. Why is he acting cold and insensitive?
"I will get it ready immediately,"'she said.
"Do not keep my father and his wife waiting ," with this, he strode out of the room.
Her head snapped up. His father's wife? Isn't she his mother? She shoved the question at the back of her mind. And rushed to the bathroom for a quick shower.
She quickly got ready and went to the kitchen. Checking out the food menu, she started cooking. When she was done, she arranged the dishes on the tray.
As she made her way out of the kitchen, someone pushed her to the floor which made the tray crash and the food spilled in different directions. She screamed and immediately, Alexander ran out of his room towards her.
He crouched down, his eyes brimming with concern. "Are you hurt?," his voice had a tinge of worry. "What happened to you?" His hands were all over her as he checked for injuries.
Jacqueline was dazed. She almost sprained her ankle in the process. "No, I am fine. Someone pushed me and I fell down," she whimpered.
"Did you see who it was?," he asked her.
She shakes her head. "No. It happened so fast, I was unable to see who it was."
"Can you stand?"
"Yes," her voice was barely a whisper.
Alexander carefully carried her in his arms like she weighed nothing, she gasped in surprise. His warm breath bathed her face and she encircled her arms around his neck. Then he carried her to his room.
Gently he placed her on his bed. "Take it easy, don't move. I will be right back."
He walked out of the room and Jacqueline sighed . She looked at herself properly and noticed that her uniform was soiled. Some of the food particles were still on her uniform. So she got up from his bed. She knew how he loved keeping his room clean. She will stand and wait for him.
Her mind kept trying to come up with possible reasons why someone would push her that way. From the way she was pushed, she knew it was a deliberate act.
The door opened and Alexander walked in. He paused when he saw her standing. "You should sit down. Why are you standing?"
"My uniform is soiled. I don't want to leave stains on your bed."
Alexander came closer to her. "Don't worry about that. Sit. I instructed the maids to clean it up. And the culprit will be found."
She sat on his bed and he joined her. He was sitting so close to her which made her self conscious.
Alexander gently arranged her dishevelled hair and Jacqueline's breath hitched in her throat. She became uneasy as he continued to touch her long hair.
He chuckled. "Easy, Jacqueline. I don't bite." He looked at her soiled uniform. "Go to the bathroom and clean up," he said softly.
She got up and left for her room. She discarded her soiled uniform. And got under the shower. When she was done, she came out of the bathroom with a towel tied around her body.
She quickly changed into another uniform and packed her hair neatly.
Just then, her phone rang. Without checking the caller ID, she answered the phone.
"Came to my room now," it was Alexander.
Before she could say a word, the call ended.
Hurriedly, she left her room and closed the door behind her. She stood for a few minutes to watch if anyone was approaching. She wouldn't want to risk another fall like the last time.
When she got there, she knocked gently and then opened the door. Alexander was on his laptop. Without taking his eyes from it, he said. "You need to see this. Sit down," he tapped the bed.
She sat close to him and he clicked a button. Footage appeared on the screen. She was surprised. Jacqueline saw when she left she kitchen carrying the tray containing the food. Then suddenly, a masked figure came out from another room and pushed her down.
Alexander paused the video. "Seems we have a lunatic on the loose."
Jacqueline was speechless. And she became uneasy. Clearly, there are CCTV cameras in the mansion.
She prayed silently, hoping that this was the only footage of her. Memories of how she had always sneaked around to eavesdrop flashed through her mind. What if he finds out?
"You're not saying anything," Alexander tapped her gently.
Jacqueline shuddered. "Uhm.. I was just wondering who is behind all these. It would have been easy if the person was not wearing a mask."
"Leave it to me. There are ways to go about this," he said.
