Chapter 43: Mafia’s possession
You can?," her voice was laced with curiosity.
Alexander looked at her for a brief moment and then turned his gaze away from her. There was a flash of anger in his eyes before it melted away.
"This is my terrain, I find it disrespectful that some imbecile will go as far as causing havoc. I will not only make life miserable for that person, I will make sure that fool faces the worst possible pain," he growled.
A shiver ran down Jacqueline's spine. "Please, when you find the culprit, don't kill the person," she pleaded.
"Why? If I may ask?"
She looked away from his intimidating gaze and looked down on her fingers. Nervously, she wrapped her fingers together. "I don't want to be the reason for anyone's death," her voice barely a whisper.
"I see."
He turned off his laptop and the screen went blank, then he closed it. And kept it on the side table.
Alexander stood up and walked to the window, gazing outside. All these years, no one had ever done this while working for him. Rubbing his chin, he began to think of possible ways to get to the root of this madness.
What if Jacqueline was killed in the process? It will break his heart. His eyes hardened in determination. "The culprit must be found and dealt with," he growled. "You can take the day off."
Her eyes widened in surprise. "I take the day off?"
He turned towards her. "I don't want to repeat what I said. "You heard me loud and clear. Now leave," he dismissed with a wave of his hand.
Jacqueline got up from the king sized bed. "Thank you," her feet padded across the room and she opened the door and left for her room.
Alexander dug into his pocket and brought out his phone. He dialled a number. "Hurry to my room this instant," he ordered. And then he ended the call and sat down on a chair.
A few minutes later, the door opened and a bulky man walked in. "Sir, you called me," he bowed.
"Santos, did anyone come into the mansion?," he questioned in a cold tone, observing him.
"No, sir. Our men are doing a perfect job by securing the gate, I am sure of that. Only your parents came in yesterday."
Alexander rubbed his temples. He had completely forgotten that his father was around. The thoughts of protecting Jacqueline clouded his mind.
Alexander was not satisfied with the answer he got. So he pressed on. "Did anyone leave the mansion?"
"Yes," Santos responded.
Alexander's head snapped towards Santos, the moment he said yes. "Don't keep me waiting, who is it?," he snapped. As he glared at him.
Santos fidgeted under Alexander's cold eyes. He knew how ruthless his boss could be. He thought he had an idea that someone left the mansion yesterday.
"It's granny Penelope," the words left his mouth. He became agitated, not sure of what would happen next.
Alexander sighed in exasperation as he shoved his hands through his hair angrily. "Don't you get it? Penelope is the only worker authorised to leave. Who else left this mansion?"
"Aside from granny Penelope, no one left this mansion," he said.
"Gather the maids and the other domestic staff outside. I'd like to have a word with them," he ordered.
Santos bowed and hurried out quickly to do as instructed.
Jacqueline was in her room, rummaging through her closet to change into something simple. She was very happy about the day off. This will give her enough time to relax and gather her scattered thoughts.
She found a blue jean and crop top which she wore immediately. And folded her uniform neatly and kept it in the closet.
Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she loosened it from its messy knot and packed it again. Since she wasn't allowed to leave the mansion, she decided to watch a movie to keep her from getting bored.
As she sat on her bed, she leaned back resting her head on the headboard. And search through her phone to watch a movie. Then she heard a loud knock on the door.
She looked towards the door wondering who it was. The knock came again.
"Jacqueline, are you in there?," it sounded like a male voice.
She sprang up from her bed and hurried to the door. Twisting the door handle, she opened it and peered through the door which she opened slightly.
It was one of Alexander's men. He looked at her. "Mr. Vladimir would like to have a word with all the domestic staff outside. Do not keep him waiting."
Jacqueline groaned inwardly. What now? She just wishes she could avoid the meeting. She sighed. "Did he say why?"
"You'll find out when you get there," he walked away and Jacqueline shot an angry look towards his retreating figure.
She slammed the door shut. And rested her back on the door. Why didn't he inform her when she was in his room?
She opened the door and dragged her feet outside after closing the door behind her.
When she got outside, other domestic staff were already waiting. She joined them. Some of them whispered amongst themselves. Probably wondering what it was.
Alexander had a glass of whisky in his hand. He swirled the content and took a sip. There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," he said in a cold voice.
Santos walked in and bowed. "Sir, they are waiting."
He poured himself another drink and took a gulp before dropping the glass on the table.
"I want you to take some men with you and search the staff's quarters. Someone attacked Jacqueline today. Wearing a mask. You know what to do?," Alexander asked. His tone was commanding.
Santos nodded. "Yes. I will do as you've spoken."
"Now hurry."
Santos spun on his heels and left swiftly to do as he was commanded
Alexander took his laptop and switched it on. He decided to go through the video recordings captured from the hidden cameras in the mansion. He could access it through his phone or laptop.
He watched the video recordings one after the other. When he got to a particular recording, his interest was piqued. He saw one of the maids entering the room where the culprit had come out from to attack Jacqueline.
Surprisingly, the maid did not step out of the room. And the recording ended. The next recording started playing, it showed when the culprit came out dressed in a black outfit and a mask.
His hands balled into a tight fist and he stood up and stomped out of his room.
