Chapter 111 The Situation Suddenly Became Awkward
Zane called out everyone's combat flaws.
Except for John and a few others who barely met his standards, the rest were a big letdown.
Even though Zane's words were harsh, the students took them seriously.
Zane said, "Alright, that's it for today. Tonight, you're free to review your general course!"
Unlike other classes, the special training class focused on Beast Taming Studies, with cultural studies being self-reviewed at night.
Everyone left the Beast Manor.
John and his two friends left too, grinning.
John was in a great mood, having proven his golden Slime's strength, gained an exclusive skill, and snagged the first-place reward.
John knew that the reward must be a substantial bonus because the school would definitely dedicate ample resources to nurture the special training class, which was perceived as the beacon of hope for the City of Wisdom High School.
Uriah asked, "John, you've been here a while. Any good places to eat nearby?"
Uriah and Joshua were new and clueless about the area.
John said, "Sure, there are some great spots. Hang on, I'll treat you!" He then dashed off to the restroom.
Uriah and Joshua waited, looking puzzled.
After a bit, Uriah said, "Joshua, John couldn't be getting us some local specialties from the restroom, right?."
Joshua shuddered, looking a bit scared, and said, "Anyone else would be going to take a leak, but with John, who knows."
John wasn't getting any local specialties there. He wasn't that unserious.
He went into a restroom stall and took out the exclusive skill book he had just been rewarded by the system.
[Dream Kill: When activated, the Slime can fight while asleep, unaffected by any negative status, and it lasts for a certain duration!]
John's face lit up as the Slime instantly learned the skill.
Though it seemed ordinary, John knew its power.
First, Slime had its own talents: Drowsiness (to increase defense while asleep) and Thick Armor (to triple passive defensewhile asleep). Paired with Dream Kill, the Slime's defense would skyrocket.
Second, the Slime wouldn't wake up, making it immune to pain and fear during battle.
If it learned more sleep-related talents, its strength would grow even more.
John left the restroom, feeling ecstatic.
He was already picturing the Slime sleeping while charging around wildly.
"Something's off! John's smile is off!" Uriah instinctively stepped back when he saw John's smile.
Especially seeing John with his hands behind his back, he imagined John holding something gross.
Joshua was equally wary, giving John a thorough once-over.
"What's wrong with you guys?" John's mouth twitched. Why were they looking at him like he was crazy?
Uriah cautiously asked, "You're not holding anything weird, are you?"
"No, why?" John looked puzzled and spread his hands.
Seeing this, they finally relaxed.
"Let's go, I'll take you to get some good food!" John said.
Uriah and Joshua's eyes lit up, "Good food!"
Ten minutes later, they arrived at a street near the school.
"This is the good food you were talking about?" They looked at the simple food stalls in front of them and fell into a long silence.
"You don't get it. The best food is often found in places like this!" John skillfully ordered various foods, playing on his phone while waiting.
Uriah looked around and noticed someone at a nearby stall.
He whispered, "Check out that guy. In this heat, he's wearing a baseball cap and a pink coat."
Uriah continued, "I bet he's either sick or a wanted criminal."
Joshua shook his head, "I don't buy it!"
John said, "A wanted criminal wouldn't dress so conspicuously. He's probably just doing some performance art."
John's phone suddenly rang.
"Owen?" He raised an eyebrow and answered the call.
"Hello, Owen?" John answered.
"John, we caught one of the two wanted criminals you mentioned yesterday. The other is still on the run. Be careful."
John said, "That's impressive!"
He hadn't expected they'd catch one so quickly. "Owen, don't worry. If the other one comes after me, he won't get away!"
"Alright, be careful. He might be hiding near your school."
John nodded and suddenly looked at the guy in the pink coat. Seeing the familiar figure, he felt suspicious.
John whispered, "Joshua, go take a sneaky photo of that guy!"
"John, are you nuts? You want me to sneak a photo of a weirdo?!"
Despite his words, Joshua got up, looking a bit excited.
Who was the real weirdo here?
Joshua casually walked to the opposite side, pretending to be a customer playing on his phone.
At that moment, he pressed the photo button!
The bright flash went off, making the situation awkward.
John and Uriah's eyes widened. That was definitely not sneaky.
"Are you crazy?!" The guy frowned and shouted but didn't do anything else.
Joshua chuckled awkwardly and returned to John's side, showing him the phone.
"It's really him!" John's eyes widened, instantly recognizing the criminal who had attacked him yesterday.
John gestured for silence and covered his face.
Uriah, confused, asked, "What are you doing?"
"That guy is suspicious," John covered his face and spoke softly.
As he finished speaking, options appeared before him.
[Option 1: Shout at the person: Criminal! Prepare to die! Reward: Moderate amount of Beast-Taming power]
[Option 2: Approach and persuade the guy to surrender! Reward: Slime's obedience +5]
[Option 3: Follow him, observe the situation, and then act. Reward: Slime's size +1%]
John frowned slightly. None of the rewards were great, and the first two options were too dangerous.
This was a street, and if he angered the criminal, innocent people could get hurt.
The second option was even less feasible. It seemed he had no choice but to follow him.
The three of them didn't speak, eating their dinner while keeping an eye on the guy.
Half an hour later, the guy left the food stall and walked down the street, getting into a black car.
John and his friends, acting suspiciously, also hailed a cab.
"Driver! Follow that car!" John said.
The cab driver instantly perked up, eyes filled with excitement, and said, "No problem!"
The cab sped up.
"Slow down! Driver, slow down!" Uriah swayed back and forth, the speed making him uncomfortable.
Ten minutes later, the black car in front stopped.
John and his friends paid the driver and got out. The cab driver pouted, feeling disappointed that it was just a short trip.
