Chapter 18 Strength and Ambitions
Wesley said, "Both of you should go home. Although you were lucky this time, next time might not be the same. Even when helping others, you need to consider your abilities. Do you understand?"
Wesley's expression became extremely serious, hoping they would listen.
As a teacher, he didn't want his students to sacrifice themselves heroically. Without strength, they would only harm themselves and others.
Wesley said, "As for informing the whole school, that's impossible."
The two left the office with sad faces and headed home together.
John said, "David, you deserve half of the bonus this time, but I know you won't take it, so I'll hold onto it for now."
David thought, 'I haven't agreed yet.'
John added. "By the way, David, come with me to SourceLife Pharmaceuticals tomorrow. I'm going to try out for a pharmacist position."
David said, "Sure, I need to go there for a security job anyway."
John looked puzzled. "Why do you want to be a security guard so much?"
John thought, 'Could it be that David, like me, has awakened a system, but a security guard system.'
David replied, "Because I've always wanted to protect the peace."
At that moment, a black luxury car stopped at the school gate.
The window rolled down, revealing a face wearing sunglasses. A rugged man shouted, "David, get in the car!"
The man said, "John is here too. Great, let's go home together."
David said, "Dad, you're back from Grandview City."
The man was David's father, a powerful Iron-level Beast Tamer.
Beast Tamers from levels one to nine were considered entry-level, and the gap between them and the Iron tier was akin to the difference between heaven and earth.
When one advanced to the Iron-level Beast Tamer, their contract spirit would undergo a bloodline evolution, greatly enhancing its power.
If the evolution resulted in an incredibly high-ranking species by chance, the boost to combat power would be significant.
At the same time, upon becoming an Iron-level Beast Tamer, one would sign a contract with another spirit from the alternate world.
The presence of two formidable contract spirits could easily crush any level nine Beast Tamer.
More importantly, once one became an Iron-level Beast Tamer, the contract spirit would feed back some of its power to the tamer.
This meant that the physical condition of Iron-level Beast Tamers was much stronger than that of ordinary people, and they could easily face ten opponents at once without any problem.
This was why only Iron-level Beast Tamers could establish Beast Guards and enter the Alternate Dimension for hunting.
Despite being only the second rank in the Beast Tamer hierarchy, for ordinary people, it was an incredibly distant existence.
"I came back as soon as I concluded my business," Carter Smith smiled.
The two got into the car, and John didn't hesitate to join them.
They quickly drove away.
"John, I heard you joined the Beast Tamer Class?" Carter asked.
John nodded. "Yes."
Carter said, "That's ambitious. It's a pity David doesn't have the Beast Taming talent; otherwise, I would do everything to help him reach Iron level."
"Dad, stop it. I've been puzzled for seventeen years." David pouted slightly.
David said, "You and Mom both have Beast Taming talent. According to geneticists, my Beast Taming talent shouldn't be bad, but it's useless. Now I'm starting to doubt if I'm really your son."
"Who says that? At least you inherited my handsome face." Carter touched his rugged face.
Carter said, "But I also have my doubts. Statistically, the probability of you not having Beast Taming talent is very low. Maybe you've done too many bad things. Forget it. I've come to terms with it now."
David looked out the window, appearing carefree.
David said, "With you guys around and John and Aria helping in the future, no one will dare to mess with me anyway."
"Mr. Smith, can you tell me about the Alternate Dimension?" John suddenly asked, his eyes filled with anticipation.
Now that he was a Beast Tamer, with the help of the system, he could become incredibly strong even without daily training. Naturally, he was curious about the Alternate Dimension.
"Alternate Dimension." Carter's eyes showed a peculiar expression filled with emotion.
Carter said, "Some say it's hell. Others say it's heaven. There are many fierce beasts inside and countless precious resources. You could become rich overnight, or you could be on the brink of death. Without strong abilities and a reliable Beast Guard, it's best not to enter casually."
Carter sighed a few times and said no more.
He had watched John grow up and naturally didn't want him to take risks.
With John's current strength, entering the Alternate Dimension would be a death sentence.
They returned to the neighborhood, and Carter and David were invited to John's house for dinner.
The two families were neighbors and had always had a very harmonious relationship.
After dinner, Carter and David left.
John and David agreed to go to SourceLife Pharmaceuticals for an interview the next morning.
John lay on his bed and opened his phone.
John said, "I should ask Ava first."
He thought to himself. Although Ava couldn't help with the pharmacist position, she could still be of some assistance.
Just as John was about to open Facebook, a series of messages came through.
John muttered, "Why is Mia suddenly messaging me?"
John looked at Facebook,
It showed a series of long voice messages.
The last one was a text message. Mia: [Can you understand this feeling?]
Just looking at the voice messages gave him a headache. He didn't listen to them and replied directly.
John said: "Mia, I totally understand. This is just too much."
John couldn't help but think of the girl-next-door image of Mia.
Mia Parker also lived in the same neighborhood but was three years older than him.
Mia, John, and David were a famous trio at South River High School back in the day.
Unlike John and David's Beast Taming talents, Mia was a true Beast Taming prodigy.
Her first contract spirit reached a terrifying S-level, breaking the history of South River High School.
With an excellent exam score of 700, she successfully entered the top-tier Quantum Academy of Techno-Magic and ranked first in the City of Wisdom that year.
Mia had a fiery personality and was a notorious bully at South River High School, feared by everyone.
Just as John was reminiscing, another message came through on Facebook.
Mia: [I sent blank voice messages, John. Do you want to get beaten up?]
John's mouth twitched slightly. He clicked on the voice messages, but they were all blank.
He quickly replied.
John: [Yes, Mia, it's that empty, powerless feeling. I really understand!]
Mia: [Is anyone bullying you and David at school? I might come back for a while during the summer break and get revenge for you.]
John replied: "Mia, no need. You're busy with your studies."
John replied in a dismissive tone and then started typing again.
John: [I'll send you a list when the time comes.]
John: [Ethan, Oliver, James...]
John kept thinking, preparing to add all these people to the list.
Anyone he didn't like was added to the list.
Who could deny that Mia was a person of great power in the City of Wisdom?
