Chapter 48 First Exploration of Enigma Woods
Just as the two were chatting, there was a knock on the door.
Caspar's voice came through. "Get up, time to go!"
The two quickly packed up and left the room.
John, carrying a large backpack and dressed in a black T-shirt and blue jeans, smiled slightly, looking incredibly sunny.
But no one could have guessed that John was very abnormal.
The receptionist gave John a resentful look, clearly still upset about last night.
The others looked at John who was wearing a strange smile, and they obviously misunderstood him.
"Ava, stay away from him in the future," Caspar said.
John scratched his head, looking confused.
They left the hotel, had a simple breakfast, and headed to the back of the town.
"Stop!"
As soon as they arrived in front of the building at the back of the town, they were stopped by soldiers.
Caspar, obviously knowing the rules, took out his passport.
The soldier scanned his passport with a nearby device, which finally emitted a synthesized electronic voice.
"Caspar, Black Iron One-Star Beast Tamer, Captain of the Shadowstalkers Beast Guard!"
John couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing.
He didn't expect it to be called Shadowstalkers Beast Guard, and the electronic voice made it even funnier.
Caspar's mouth twitched, and he then took out a credit card, deducting the Stellar Coins needed for everyone's tickets.
Alternate Dimensions were important resources controlled by the government, so it was naturally impossible for Beast Tamers to enter for free.
Developing or guarding Alternate Dimensions required a lot of expenses.
They successfully arrived in front of the building but did not enter. Instead, they headed toward the dense fog behind the building.
This was the entrance to Enigma Woods!
Soldiers frequently patrolled the dense fog, earning respect from those who saw them.
Finally, John saw a faint white glow in the fog as if it came from another space.
They stepped inside.
Soft sunlight shone through, and a gentle breeze carried the scent of flowers, making everyone feel refreshed.
Everyone's spirits were instantly lifted, becoming much more alert.
John asked, "Is this a resort?"
John looked around, his expression filled with curiosity.
Inside were rows of wooden cabins with soft soil and grass underfoot, making it feel like a small village.
Additionally, numerous birds, each spanning several feet in length, persistently patrolled the sky, their intense eyes vigilantly scanning the ground below.
Around them, soldiers in military uniforms walked back and forth, accompanied by powerful contract spirits, vigilant against any potential threats.
John's gaze was immediately drawn to the armband on the soldiers' right arms, which read 'Spirit Guard.'
"These are the Spirit Guards responsible for guarding the Alternate Dimension. Remember not to act recklessly here," Caspar said, mainly addressing John.
"If you break the rules, you'll definitely be punished," Caspar added.
They left the small village, encountering many contract spirits along the way, and saw Spirit Guards resting inside the cabins.
Although the small village seemed ordinary, it was unknown how many Beast Tamers were hidden there, and even Black Iron-level Beast Tamers were frequently encountered.
Although there were no defensive fortifications, it still made people feel incredibly safe.
John asked curiously, "Mr. Kane, why aren't there any machine guns emitting blue light here?"
Caspar glanced at him and said, "Modern technology is greatly weakened in the Alternate Dimension, so it's not very effective. Beast Tamers are the main combat force."
John nodded, understanding why Beast Tamers had become the backbone of society. It was closely related to human survival; otherwise, if the beasts invaded, it would be a disaster for Stellar Enigma.
The group left the Spirit Guard Base.
In the distance, there were many ancient towering trees, at least 35 feet high.
Around them were only huge tree stumps, indicating that the Spirit Guard had cleared the trees.
Caspar and the others were tense, extremely vigilant, and had summoned their contract spirits.
Caspar's contract spirit was a large black wolf, over 13 feet long, with sharp fangs that were very intimidating.
As a Black Iron-level Beast Tamer, he naturally had two contract spirits, but he hadn't summoned the other one.
The other members of the Beast Guard also summoned their contract spirits.
A black crow took to the sky early, constantly scouting the surroundings.
There was also an iron-backed beast resembling a giant lizard, a stunningly beautiful blue-tailed butterfly, and a low-flying flame bird.
Although Enigma Woods was considered an ordinary-level Alternate Dimension, it was still filled with dangers.
Even an ordinary ice rabbit could easily kill a person.
Experienced Beast Tamers would always release their contract spirits early to ensure safety.
John muttered, "Is the atmosphere always this tense?"
Seeing everyone on high alert, John couldn't help but feel a bit nervous and silently took out a bag of chips.
"John, stop eating and summon your contract spirit!" Caspar turned around, looking exasperated.
Caspar thought, 'You are really calm, eating chips at such a dangerous time.'
John said, "Mr. Kane, my contract spirit has a flaw."
Morris said, "As long as it can be useful, don't worry about the flaw."
"Okay."
John nodded, and a golden Slime about 3.3 feet tall appeared out of thin air.
The Slime had its eyes closed, mouth slightly open, with drool occasionally dripping out.
"Wake it up quickly."
John focused his mind and woke the Slime from its sleep.
The Slime's eyes opened slightly, looking confused.
It seemed puzzled, as if there were enemies around.
"Let's go. The Spirit Guard has already cleared the area, so there won't be any beasts."
Caspar led the way into Enigma Woods.
As the team moved, Caspar realized the flaw of the Slime.
The Slime was incredibly slow!
It barely kept up with the group, but before long, it would start to fall asleep while walking.
"John, your contract spirit is too strange," Caspar sighed. "Put it away."
John put the Slime back into the Beast Taming space.
Morris rubbed his forehead and said, "Ava, have your flame bird protect you and John. Leave the rest of the fighting to us."
The team's pace returned to normal. Although it was a forest, the main path was clear.
Enigma Woods had appeared fifty years ago, and countless Beast Guards had explored it.
With so many people walking through, a path naturally formed.
They moved forward, surrounded by dense trees.
Gentle sunlight filtered through the leaves and the occasional sound of insects could be heard. The air was incredibly fresh, and the scenery was beautiful.
"Our team's main tasks are to capture three live Green-Eyed Snakes and collect Level 2 Iron Core Fruits," Caspar said, staying vigilant.
The task of capturing the Green-Eyed Snakes was issued by a lab in the City of Wisdom for experimental purposes.
The company needed Level 2 Iron Core Fruits to try to create Black Iron-level defensive potions.
Caspar said, "In addition to completing these two tasks, we should also try to collect rare materials or hunt mutated beasts."
