Chapter 94 Homework? What Homework

At the entrance of the neighborhood, a shirtless guy in shorts was sprinting like his life depended on it.

Yep, it was the robber, Kirk Smith.

If it had been anyone else knocking, he might've shrugged it off.

But John's voice? Oh man, he knew that voice too well. It grated on his nerves.

Just two hours ago, he had called John.

Sure, scamming was his side gig; his main hustle was stealing.

In all his years, he'd never been this ticked off.

John had not only claimed he was sick but also insisted he was an amputee. And Kirk couldn't argue.

Because, well, he was a scammer.

"What a crappy day! How did I end up running into him?" Kirk ignored the stares and tried to catch a ride in his shorts.

He figured John had pegged him as a scammer and called the cops. If he got caught, his cover as a robber would be blown.

So, he tried to hail a cab. But the problem? He was in shorts and shirtless. No one wanted to stop for him.

He looked like a lunatic.

"What are you staring at? Never seen performance art?!"

Kirk snapped at the gawkers, clearly on edge.

Just then, a green light zoomed towards him, circling above his head.

The crowd saw the glowing green light and burst into laughter.

Kirk was in just his shorts with a green light above his head!

People started taking pictures, wanting to capture this bizarre moment.

Kirk knew things were going south; the green light was clearly some contract spirit's skill.

At that moment, a thunderbird swooped down, landing right in front of him.

"Uriah, is this your doing?" John's mouth twitched at the sight of the green light.

"Did you guys do this to me?" Kirk squinted, anger flaring in his eyes.

He thought it was the Spirit Control Bureau, but it was just two students and an old man.

"Your voice, it sounds familiar." John raised an eyebrow, suddenly remembering.

"So it's you!" John recalled, not expecting to run into the scammer from the morning.

"Mr. Smith, feeling better now?"

Kirk clenched his fists in rage, looking ridiculous with the green light above his head.

John said, "Joshua! Attack!"

Joshua looked confused, "Attack? Attack who?"

"Quick, order your thunderbird to attack him!"

Kirk was a Beast Tamer, and John couldn't just jump in. He needed Joshua to test his strength first.

"My thunderbird doesn't fight."

John was equally puzzled. The textbooks said thunderbirds controlled lightning, with a powerful attack called 'Thunder Strike.'

"My thunderbird's a bit different!"

Uriah asked, surprised, "What? It can't fight?"

"Of course not," Joshua said, rolling his eyes. "It's for escaping."

John waved his hand, "Enough chit-chat, let's take down Kirk first!"

While Kirk couldn't see their actions, John quietly pulled a large bag from his backpack.

"You carry a bag with you?" Joshua and Uriah were taken aback, finding the whole situation odd.

To them, this bag was something completely unfamiliar.

"Leave it to me! Joshua, get your thunderbird to fly a bit lower."

John gripped the large bag with both hands, and when he was about six feet from the ground, he jumped down.

"Watch me descend from the sky!"

Kirk looked up, but the green light was too blinding, so he couldn't open his eyes.

Instinctively, Kirk summoned his contract spirit.

A black rat appeared on the ground, its eyes darting around shrewdly.

The real thief was this night rat; its skill 'Night Camouflage' let it blend into the darkness, easily avoiding all surveillance.

Sensing danger, the black rat chose to flee. Facing the descending John, it was also scared!

"Damn it!" Kirk cursed, but there was nothing he could do.

He had trained the night rat to steal since it was young, but it wasn't built for fighting.

The large bag descended, covering Kirk completely.

As if he was sealed, Kirk had no power left.

Uriah and the others quickly came down to help, and the three of them attacked Kirk together, finally making him surrender.

"Owen, get to Thyme Estates. We've caught the robber," John said on his phone.

"Really?" Owen was shocked and hurried to the north of the city.

Soon, the robber who had terrorized the City of Wisdom for ten days was captured, and the three of them had contributed to a harmonious society.

"Joshua! Thanks for your help; the peace of the City of Wisdom depends on you!" John and Uriah praised Joshua endlessly.

'Something's not right!' Joshua suddenly thought.

"You guys are trying to trick me. There must be a reward for capturing a wanted criminal!"

John raised an eyebrow, initially planning to deceive him.

Uriah slapped his forehead, "I forgot about that. There is indeed a reward, a total of two thousand Stellar Coins! How about this, you were just assisting, so you get five hundred Stellar Coins, and we split the remaining fifteen hundred Stellar Coins. You should have no objections, right?"

Joshua's eyes widened, making them uncomfortable.

After a while, he finally said, "Really? Two thousand Stellar Coins?! I only make two thousand Stellar Coins a month from my part-time job! A criminal is worth that much?!"

"Of course, of course!" Uriah generously took out five hundred Stellar Coins from his bag.

"Thanks!" Joshua was very happy.

This was more than he earned from his part-time job.

John and the others happily went to the Beast Tamer Association to get the ten thousand Stellar Coin reward.

"Uriah, since you gave Joshua five hundred Stellar Coins, you get twenty-nine thousand and five hundred Stellar Coins this time. That should be fine, right?"

Uriah nodded but felt something was off.

By the time he realized it, John had already left.

"Today is a good day." John whistled as he headed home.

He had been worried about not having living expenses for the new semester, but now he had earned it.

Just as he was feeling excited, Grace's words instantly ruined his good mood.

"John, school is starting soon. Have you finished your homework?"

John's eyes widened, his body trembling, feeling like he was suffocating.

Homework? What homework?!
