Chapter 40 I Hope You Will Never Understand My Efforts

One contract spirit after another stepped forward to attack, but none of them achieved an A grade, and even B grades were rare.

"John, it's your turn," Harper said with a hint of expectation in his eyes.

Harper had initially thought John was weak, but it turned out John had been hiding his true strength.

John stepped forward and summoned his golden Slime.

Among everyone's contract spirits, the golden Slime was quite special because it was the only F-grade.

"What a waste of a Level 5 Beast Tamer."

"Yeah, even a D-grade contract spirit would have decent attack power.

The golden Slime had low potential and mediocre attributes. Its only commendable trait was its vitality, which was useless in this exam.

Moreover, the Slime's attack speed was extremely slow, and it was likely only able to attack once every five seconds.

The golden Slime kept bouncing around, its big eyes full of curiosity as it looked at the other contract spirits.

John said, "Go, Slime!"

The Slime's eyes widened, trying to look fierce, but to others, it just looked incredibly cute.

From a distance, the Slime looked similar to the device, though much smaller in size.

The Slime wiggled its butt and then charged forward.

With its Level 3 Charge skill activated, its speed suddenly increased dramatically.

"Is it going to crash into it?" Everyone watched the golden Slime curiously.

But just 33 feet away from the yellow sphere, the Slime suddenly leaped, its size instantly quadrupling.

"Another active skill!"

Everyone exclaimed. The Slime's speed boost was clearly from a skill, and now its size increase was definitely another active skill.

Having two combat skills already put it ahead of most students' contract spirits.

In fact, the Slime's leaping ability also came from a skill: Violent Sit.

The 10 feet tall golden Slime looked like a giant blob, and it aimed its big butt at the yellow sphere.

Both were yellow spheres, making the scene look comical.

The golden Slime's big eyes strained open as it pressed down hard on the yellow sphere.

Its master had commanded it to attack the yellow sphere in front of it.

The yellow sphere became deeply indented but did not collapse.

Not even a Level 9 Beast Tamer could destroy it, let alone a Level 5.

The yellow sphere suddenly bounced back, sending the golden Slime flying toward the ceiling.

"Quick, put it away!" Mr. Everhart immediately said.

He wasn't worried about the Slime's safety but about the Beast Manor's ceiling getting damaged.

Such a massive creature had a terrifying weight.

John willed the golden Slime back into its contract, which could be done within a certain range, though summoning it again would take some time.

Attack Strength: B!

Finally, the display showed a rating.

The other Beast Tamers were all exclaiming in surprise, but John was not surprised. If the golden Slime didn't even have B-grade attack strength, it wouldn't have been able to injure Oliver's Green Feather Eagle seriously.

As for A-grade, that needed to be within reach.

Only Ava in the entire grade had achieved it, being the only Level 7 Beast Tamer with an A-grade contract spirit, far stronger than the Slime.

"B-grade! It's actually B-grade. Yes! We finally have another student from our class attend the senior year special training class."

Harper clenched his fists slightly, his eyes filled with excitement.

Wesley had really sent him a genius. In just one month, John had grown to such level.

No, John had likely been pretending all along.

Although Harper didn't know why John would do this, it was very possible for a strange character like John!

If Harper could figure it out, he wouldn't be normal.

The students of Beast Taming Class 5 looked in confusion at this 'bottom student' of their class.

John coughed and said seriously, "No one is a genius. Only through continuous effort can one become strong."

Everyone was slightly stunned. "Is he encouraging us?"

"Look at me. After a month of hard work, I went from a Level 1 Beast Tamer to a Level 5 Beast Tamer." John sighed deeply. "I hope you won't understand my effort."

The room fell silent again.

Going from a Level 1 Beast Tamer to a Level 5 Beast Tamer in a month was simply unbelievable.

All the Beast Tamers present had been training hard for two years, but most were still at Level 3.

"I really want to punch John right now."

"Same here. What John said is really infuriating!"

Even Ava's mouth twitched, and she couldn't help but want to summon her Firebird.

Mr. Everhart quickly intervened, "Alright! Continue with the exam. We must finish the Beast Taming Studies subject today!"

If a big fight broke out, the scene would be unimaginable.

He also gave John a deep look. That was an F-grade Slime, yet it had learned two combat skills. His luck was just too good.

The attack test ended quickly, and next was the speed test.

Speed not only referred to physical movement but also included reaction speed.

The yellow sphere in the exam room suddenly transformed into a machine gun. Its barrel slowly rotated, exuding a sense of pressure.

John said, "Is the testing equipment this advanced?"

John was shocked. He had thought the technology in this world was similar to what he was used to, with household appliances like TVs and refrigerators.

But now it seemed there was a big difference.

"Now, the speed test begins!" Mr. Everhart announced.

The machine gun didn't fire real bullets but rubber bullets coated with dye. Even if a contract spirit were hit, it wouldn't get hurt.

The speed test mainly assessed the contract spirit's dodging ability and reaction speed.

John's golden Slime once again stunned everyone.

Not because the Slime was too strong but because it was too weak.

Even the slowest contract spirits would at least try to dodge.

But the golden Slime just fell asleep, catching every bullet like raindrops without missing a single one.

In a way, this was a perfect score in reverse.

Speed Rating: F!

Unsurprisingly, John received the lowest rating.

This made many people breathe a sigh of relief, as it seemed the Slime was extremely specialized.

Now, John had two F ratings, which would greatly affect his overall score, making it almost impossible to enter the special training class.

The speed test ended quickly, and the final test for contract spirit defense was about to begin.

Although John had received an F rating, he remained calm.

The defense test would determine his final score, and he still had academic subjects to boost his score.
