Chapter 41 The Unseen Defense
"Now, let's begin the defense assessment!" Mr. Everhart announced from above.
The machine guns in the examination field began to change, with a faint blue light appearing at the muzzle.
The bullets inside were no longer rubber but had been replaced with special ones.
The first to undergo the assessment was still Ava's flame bird.
Mr. Everhart reminded. "If the contract spirit can't handle it, summon it back immediately!"
However, this situation was almost non-existent. Once a contracted spirit was hurt, the assessment was considered over, and the machine guns would stop firing.
Ava nodded slightly, and the other students also retreated to a distance of a hundred feet.
The machine gun's muzzle started to rotate, emitting blue light continuously, looking quite imposing.
The flame bird stood calmly on the ground, eyes slightly closed, appearing very serene.
Obviously, this level of attack posed no threat to it.
The machine gun's muzzle sped up again, and the bullet strength seemed to change as well.
The difficulty level kept rising, and the firebird's expression gradually turned from calm to serious, eventually letting out a screech as a wound appeared on its chest.
"Assessment over! Defense level: B!"
The proctor shouted, recording Ava's score.
One by one, other contract spirits stepped forward to undergo the defense assessment.
Compared to the previous two tests, defense scores were generally lower.
Besides Ava, only two others reached a B level, and many received an E-level rating.
Students stepped forward one by one, with John being the last. After everyone else had finished, it was finally his turn.
The golden Slime looked like a big round ball. As soon as it appeared, its eyes were tightly closed, and it even drooled a little, clearly immersed in a deep sleep.
Harper said, "John, wake up your contract spirit."
The defense assessment was extremely important now, and no mistakes were allowed.
If he got another F rating, John would have no hope of entering the special training class.
"No need, let's start like this," John shook his head, directly refusing.
The golden Slime had a thick armor talent, which tripled its effect in sleep, and its drowsiness talent also increased its defense.
In other words, the Slime had the highest defense when it was asleep.
"Let's begin," Mr. Everhart nodded.
The other students also turned their attention to John's Slime.
In this final exam, John surprised everyone, ranking at the top in both attack strength and Beast Tamer level.
In fact, many students hadn't heard of John's name before.
After all, he was still sleeping in the regular class a month ago and had only recently joined the Beast Tamer Class.
The machine gun started rotating again, blue light flashing at the muzzle, but the golden Slime remained motionless.
The thunderous snoring and gunfire intertwined, creating a strange symphony.
Everyone was dumbfounded, shocked by the scene.
The machine gun's strength gradually increased, quickly reaching a B level from the lowest F level.
Unlike the flame bird, the golden Slime's defense wasn't instantly broken, and it continued to sleep soundly.
Suddenly, the Slime yawned widely.
Some bullets even entered its mouth, and the Slime smacked its lips, swallowing them directly.
Many people widened their eyes, incredulous at the scene. "Is this really the weakest Slime?"
Although it was a special type of contract spirit, Slime was definitely not a rare contract spirit.
Among F-level contract spirits, Slime accounted for at least 30%, coming in various colors, not just gold.
Such a weak contract spirit showing such an outstanding performance was hard for everyone to accept.
The B-level assault lasted nearly a minute, still unable to break the Slime's defense.
"Could it be an A-level defense contract spirit?" Mr. Everhart squinted, wondering.
But just as the machine gun was about to increase its attack level, the golden Slime disappeared instantly.
"What? What's going on?" Everyone looked at John, puzzled.
At this moment, options appeared before John's eyes again.
[Option 1: Honestly admit that the Slime can't take it anymore. Reward: Slime's defense increases by 5%]
[Option 2: Maintain mystery. Reward: Unlock new potion recipe: Defense Potion]
[Option 3: Quickly leave Beast Manor, leaving a dashing silhouette. Reward: Speed Potion]
There was no need to hesitate.
The first and third options were only temporary boosts; the potion recipe was the most useful.
John looked at the others, his gaze calm, and said, "B-level attacks are too basic. I think even A-level attacks won't work!"
John said, "Proctor, record the score. I won't test the A-level attack!"
Everyone was speechless. John was too arrogant.
But for a moment, they really couldn't tell if the Slime could withstand an A-level attack.
"Defense level: B!"
The proctor finally recorded his defense level.
Although it was the same level as Ava's, the teacher would naturally consider his defense score higher when summarizing.
"Today's Beast Taming Studies results are complete. The exam scores will be sent to your phones."
Mr. Everhart said, "I hope you all have a pleasant summer vacation!"
Finally, he gave John a deep look, having a very strong impression of this student.
The contract spirit was strange, and John was even stranger, making it impossible not to remember him.
Everyone in the examination field was in a good mood. Although the exam results weren't ideal, thinking about the upcoming summer vacation made them feel much more relaxed.
Of course, most people were still discussing John and his Slime.
Some even came specifically to ask him for advice.
"John," a pretty girl ran over.
"No need to be so polite. What do you need?" John waved his hand.
Riya didn't quite understand and asked, "I want to know how you trained your contract spirit to be so strong."
John touched his chin and replied seriously, "Hard work and practice."
"John, come with me!" Harper said.
John was about to continue explaining his methods when Harper suddenly called him.
John said, "Remember, you must train your contract spirit well to awaken its intelligence. My Slime can even use a smartphone."
Riya was confused. Riya thought, 'Does he mean making the contract spirit read and study?'
John and Harper left the examination field and went to the school playground.
"Do you think you can get into the special training class this time?" Harper asked.
John replied, "Depends on my luck. I'll know when the results come out."
John crossed his arms behind his head, looking very relaxed.
He didn't feel any pressure at all. In just a month, he had become a Level 5 Beast Tamer. Who knew what level he would reach in the next year?
"You really are calm," Harper twitched his mouth, then sighed, "I didn't expect your talent to be so strong."
"Talent is important, but it's not the most important," John suddenly grinned, looking up at the sky.
"Do you think hard work is the most important?" Harper was puzzled.
John thought, 'How could it be due to hard work? Of course, it's because of the system!'
John smiled without saying a word, leisurely leaving the playground.
The setting sun cast a long, long shadow of John.
Harper's eyes were dazed as if seeing a future great Beast Tamer.
