Chapter 64 Middlemen Made a Profit
Alex felt very confused. He couldn't understand what was happening. But instinctively, he kept running.
To the uninformed, they might have appeared to be three young people who loved to exercise.
Before long, Alex was panting heavily, clearly showing signs of physical exhaustion.
Alex said, "I was wrong. What I did was wrong."
John and David both had cold expressions on their faces and continuedchasing Alex.
As they ran farther, the surrounding pedestrians, unaware that Alex was a thief, began to talk about them.
"They must be chasing the sun. I really envy the energy of young people these days."
"Yeah, they're so unlike my kids, who are still sleeping!"
"Go! Go!"
Some pedestrians even clapped, cheering them on.
The situation began to change.
"Can you guys let me go? I can't run anymore," Alex said, almost in tears. He would rather be detained than keep running.
However, John was thinking, 'Why hasn't the system issued the reward yet?'
John immediately became unhappy when he heard Alex's words.
The reward hadn't been given out, but Alex was saying he couldn't run anymore.
John lifted Alex's right arm, and when David saw that, he lifted Alex's left arm.
John said, "You have to keep running as long as you have thestrength."
John and David forced Alex to run.
The morning sunlight shone down, making the three of them look like young people chasing their dreams on the street.
After half an hour of running,Alex's face was pale. His eyes were barely open andoccasionally twitched. He looked like he could collapse at any moment.
"Unlocked new item: Speed Potion!"
John breathed a sigh of relief. Even with their stamina, they felt exhausted since they haddragged a burden along.
As soon as they let go, Alex collapsed to the ground.
Now, he panted heavily, looking up at the blue sky, feeling only relief in his heart.
John said, "David, I'll watch him. You go buy three bottles of water."
"John, I don't think I've offended you guys," Alex said, struggling to catch his breath.
John squatted down, looking at Alex, and said, "Stop talking nonsense. I'll ask you a question. Answer it correctly, and we'll let you go."
"A question?"
Alex's spirits lifted. John might really let him go.
John asked, "Where are we?"
Alex felt confused. He didn't understand why he was asking this.
"Don't you know?"John clenched his right fist, squinting. "Alex, what is this? Have you ever experienced the power of my fist?"
Alex swallowed hard, trying to answer, "I'm not really sure."
John punched Alex in the left eye socket.
John said, "You don't know my power."
"John, I really was wrong," Alex said, tears welling up in his eyes, already in great pain from John's torment.
"Good, it seems you've realized your mistake. You're even shedding tears of regret!"
John nodded, saying, "At the next intersection, turn left. What's the first building?"
Alex thought hard. He was very familiar with this area; otherwise, he wouldn't have been stealing here.
With a face full of grievance, he said, "City of Wisdom Police Department."
John said, "Correct, you should know what to do now."
Alex nodded, realizing John wanted him to turn himself in.
If Alex didn't answer the question, he would keep getting beaten. If he answered, he would go straight to the police station.
John said, "You're in good physical condition, you shouldn't be a thief. Go back and train more."
Just then, David returned, holding three bottles of water in his hands. He handed one to Alex.
John patted him on the shoulder and said, "After getting out of jail, write to your foreign friends properly. Don't spend your time being a thief. It's wrong!"
Alex thought, 'Why? Why should I write letters to foreign friends?'
Alex felt confused, unable to understand what they were saying anymore.
John said, "Go turn yourself in."
John and David watched with satisfied smiles as Alex walked into the police station.
"Sir, Alex is a thief. You can check the surveillance on Rainflower Street."
John said to the officer at the door, in case Alex didn't tell the truth.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at the Beast Tamer Association in the City of Wisdom.
John skillfully went to the mission hall, looking at the tasks.
[Task Name: Tutoring a soon-to-be high school senior.]
[Task Difficulty: None.]
[Task Content: My son is about to become a high school senior. I hope a Beast Taming university student can tutor him.]
[Task Requirements: Current or graduated students from a top Beast Taming university.]
[Task Name: Beast Training Academy Sparring Partner.]
[Task Name: Exterminate Mutant Rat Swarm.]
John found the tasks very novel, as it was his first time at the Beast Tamer Association in the City of Wisdom.
Most of the tasks had no difficulty rating and were social work.
This was completely different from the tasks in Spellwood, which were related to the Enigma Woods.
There were few monster-hunting tasks in the city, like exterminating the mutant rat swarm, which was also of ordinary danger.
The fierce beasts had once invaded Stellar Enigma, naturally mating with local animals, leaving behind bloodlines, and creating mutant creatures.
But those creatures weren'td fierce beasts; even trainee Beast Tamers could handle them.
John quickly found the task for the fake medicine dealer.
[Task Name: Investigate Fake Medicine Dealer.]
[Task Difficulty: None.]
[Task Content: Recently, a fake medicine dealer has appeared in the Black Market, involving amounts up to tens of millions of Stellar Coins. We hope to catch them soon. Note: This task is issued by the Spirit Control Bureau; no deposit is required!]
[Task Reward: 100,000 Stellar Coins!]
[Task Difficulty: The fake medicine dealer hasn't appeared for many days, is highly concealed, and is difficult to track.]
[Task Tips: 1. Photo of an accomplice.jpg, 2. It can be confirmed that the fake medicine dealer has not left the City of Wisdom.]
John examined the task and accepted it.
The task reward was 100,000 Stellar Coins. Uriah had only charged 50,000 Stellar Coins. If he provided accurate information, John would essentially earn 50,000 Stellar Coins for free.
