CHAPTER 116
We got back to the house and as we pulled up we all stood outside the cars and watched two cars drive past the driveway really slowly. The same two cars that followed us all the way home.
They didn’t care if we saw them or not, but I did see one of them put the window down slightly as he saw me standing there.
Harry walked over to me and got between me and his line of sight and I turned to walk towards the front door.
As soon as we got there we saw another envelope on the ground in front of the door, so Lucas picked it up and we went inside quickly.
He opened the envelope to show that they were more photos and he handed them to me before he walked away towards the surveillance room.
I sat on the couch in the living room to start going through the photos.
They were of Harry taking me to his knife maker when he got my dagger made and at the gun range.
There were other photos of while we were shopping because I didn’t have any clothes and I had been wearing the guys clothes when I first came to this house.
“They’ve been watching us since I first came here.” I said.
“They were probably watching you before that. But they want you to know that they know about us.” Jax said, sitting next to me.
“No one sent any photos to me like this before I came to live here.”
“They wouldn’t have dared to. Not while you were living with your dad.” Harry said.
“How hard is it going to be to find that damn money?” I asked, dropping the photos on the coffee table.
Jax put his arm around me. I was sick of being watched and I was sick of walking on eggshells. Having to look over my shoulder whenever I left the house. It was driving me crazy.
Lucas came back with still shots of the guy that left this envelope and it looked to be the same person. They were wearing all black with a mask and only their eyes were showing.
I looked at the clearest photo that we had of him and I sat there studying it for a moment.
“What is it?” Lucas asked.
“I don’t know. There’s just something that feels really familiar about him.” I said.
“You’ve seen those eyes before?”
“Yeah. But, I mean, don’t lots of people have the same sort of eyes?”
“No. Not really. I mean, they look familiar to you. That’s not something to dismiss.” Jax said.
“I guess.” I said.
“It’ll come to you when you least expect it.” He said.
“Probably.”
The following morning I insisted on getting back to training so I went to the training room with Jax and we were working with hand to hand combat.
We spent three hours down there before we headed back up to the house and Harry and Lucas weren’t home.
Jax grabbed a piece of paper up off the bench and then showed it to me.
*Don’t let her out of your sight. We’ll be back soon. Just have to go and run a few errands.*
*Lucas*
“Why do I get the feeling they’re not running errands?” I asked.
“Because they probably aren’t. We’ll find out what they’re up to when they get back.” Jax said, kissing the side of my head.
“Alright. I have to go and shower.” I said.
“Well, I hope that was an invitation.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows at me.
“Isn’t it always?” I asked.
So he grabbed my hand and we practically ran upstairs to my room and were undressed in a matter of seconds before we actually got in the shower.
But just as we were getting into it someone rang the doorbell so Jax reached over to look at his phone and see who it was through the doorbell camera.
“Shit.” He said.
“Who is it?” I asked.
“William. Stay up here.” He instructed as he got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist.
I had a really quick shower after that and I went into my room to get dressed and I carefully opened my door so they couldn’t hear it downstairs.
I walked to the balcony of the house inside and I couldn’t really hear what they were saying because I was so high up and they were in the office. But I could tell that they were having an argument.
William eventually stormed out and I stepped back, away from the balcony as soon as I saw him heading towards the front door.
As soon as he left I started walking down the stairs and I went to the office where Jax was sitting in a shirt and jeans that he threw on quickly before he answered the door.
“What happened?” I asked.
“He is having another party and he wants us all there. I told him that it’s not up to me and we probably won’t be able to make it.”
“Why not?” I asked.
“Why would you want to go? You heard what Lucas said. We have to keep you as far away from him as possible.” Jax said.
“Yeah. I know that. But why can’t we use this opportunity to get back into his office?” I asked.
“What do you think we’re going to find?” He asked.
“Bank account details. Maybe we can clone his phone so we can find out who those burners belong to. I mean, he’s probably sending messages to them so we might get a name.” I said.
“I never thought of that. Lucas will like the idea but he’s not gonna want you to do it.” Jax said.
“As long as you guys don’t abandon me this time then I’m sure it’ll be fine.” I said.
“Skylar. We have to take it really carefully now. I don’t know what was in those photos that Lucas saw. But it was enough to scare him. And he doesn’t get scared. Especially not by his father.” Jax said.
“I know. But I can’t just sit here and do nothing.” I said.
“Well, for the time being, you do.” He said, kissing me on the forehead.
It felt like I was a fucking prisoner again. These guys were meant to be helping me and in order to protect me they think they need to keep me locked up in this house.
It’s just like my father, except they obviously have very different motives.
I ended up walked to the kitchen to get something to eat when we heard Lucas and Harry come running into the house and they locked the door immediately.
I ran to the front door and they both looked like they had been to war with someone, and it didn’t look like they won.
“What the hell happened?” I asked.
Before they could answer the front window of the house shattered in front of me and I fell to the ground behind the couch.
