CHAPTER 86
I stood there watching the way Lucas was looking at this girl Nancy and he seemed really confused, but not upset. Harry and Jax looked pissed, but he was just staring at her.
“Do you think we could go and talk somewhere? Somewhere a little quieter?” Nancy asked.
“Lucas, we have stuff to do tonight.” Harry tried to remind him.
“I’ll be back soon. I promise.” Lucas said. He winked at me before he turned around and he walked away with Nancy and they walked out of the ballroom while I was staring at them.
Harry grabbed onto my hand and I turned to look at him.
“Who is she?” I asked.
“His ex. It took him so long to get rid of that bitch. She always managed to crawl her way back into his life. Even after cheating on him and betraying him.” Jax said.
“Should I be worried?” I asked.
“No.” Harry said.
“Do I even have a right to be?” I asked.
“What do you mean?” Jax asked.
“Well, given our situation at the moment. Do I have a right to be jealous of his ex-girlfriend? Or any of your ex-girlfriends? I mean, there’s three of you and one of me.”
“Hey. You have every right to be jealous because we’ve all promised you that we belong to you. And there’s no way he’s going to fall for Nancy now. Not after meeting you.” Harry said, looking me straight in the eye.
All I could do was nod.
“And what the hell is Alora doing here?” Jax asked.
I looked back to the other side of the room and there was a woman with jet black hair standing across the room watching us wearing a really tight black mini dress with a slit up the side of it, fishnet stockings and knee high boots. And lots of tattoos on her arms and legs.
She reminded me a little of the guys. With their tattoos and the way that they carried themselves with so much confidence. She was doing the same.
“And her?” I asked.
“She trained with us. That’s probably why she was invited. William knows her pretty well.” Harry said.
“And she’s in love with you.” Jax said.
“Alright. William’s occupied right now so I’m gonna go find his office.” I said putting my champagne down on the table.
“What are you talking about? Lucas and you put this together. You’re meant to be working with him.” Harry said.
“I don’t know when Lucas is going to be back. And I don’t really want to stay here. I’ll be fine. I’ve got what I need. I can do it myself.” I said, walking through the room and out of the ballroom.
I looked back to see the security guards all around the room, watching everyone inside the room and William and Melissa were entertaining their guests so I quickly ducked around the corner and up the hallway.
When I got to the staircase I went upstairs and I pulled my phone out of my clutch and I opened a program that I had downloaded.
It already had William’s security system synced into it so I pressed the button and I watched the screen as I was walking down the hallway.
I noticed that the camera wasn’t picking me up on the screen and I turned back to look at the camera on the wall. It was facing right at me, but it wasn’t showing that I was even there.
So I walked up the hallway and I followed the directions that I could remember until I turned the corner and walked down another hallway until I got to William’s office.
I tried to open the door but it was locked. Lucas said that it would be. So I grabbed the master key that Lucas gave me out of my bag and I opened the door.
I walked inside and I used the light on my phone to find my way to the desk.
It was a massive room and there was some really expensive collectors art on the wall.
I found the desk and I sat down behind the computer and turned it on.
It was encrypted so I started hacking the best way that I knew how. And I knew that I would only have a couple of minutes before William knew that someone was hacking into his system. So I needed to work quickly.
As soon as I got into the computer I put a flash drive into the side of it and I started downloading all of the files that were on his computer. And while that was happening, I started looking through the drawers of his desk to see if I could find anything. But there wasn’t anything there.
One of the pieces of art on the wall caught my eye. It looked really familiar to me. But I was having trouble picturing where I had seen it before.
So I took a photo of it with my phone.
I had a timer going to make sure that I didn’t go over the amount of time that I had given myself before anyone knew that I was here.
And I was watching the timer as I was going through some of the files.
I found some video files and I opened one of them up and they were from inside this office.
I had obviously cut the feed to this room as well, but there were videos on there of William and a woman wearing a maid’s outfit. The same maid that I saw downstairs serving drinks.
Luckily, I finally got all the files downloaded and I took the flashdrive out and I got out of the computer system as quickly as I could.
I put everything back the way that I found it and I started walking towards the door and I left the room and closed the door behind me.
“Hey. What the hell are you doing up here?” Someone yelled behind me.
So I spun around and there was a security guard standing there, staring at me.
“I…um…”
“Honey. There you are. I was wondering what took you so long. You said you were just going to the bathroom.” Jax said, walking up behind the guard.
“I did. This place is a freaking maze. I got so lost.” I said.
“I’m really sorry about this. It’s her first time here. I’ll make sure that I show her where everything is before I let her out of my sight again.” Jax said to the guard.
He walked over to me and he grabbed my hand and he walked me past the guard and back towards the stairs.
“Did you get it?” He whispered.
“Everything.” I said. And he smiled at me.
We went back into the ballroom and I saw Lucas was back but he was dancing with Nancy and Harry was dancing with Alora.
I really didn’t feel like I had any right to be jealous, but I was. I hated that they were dancing with those girls. And I had an instant hatred for those girls. I wanted them away from the guys, but I also felt guilty for feeling that way.
Jax saw the way that I was staring at the guys but he just got my attention and he grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dancefloor and started spinning me around and dancing with me.
“Wow. You’re pretty good.” He said.
“Yeah. One of the perks of my father hating me. He wanted me out of his hair when I was younger so he signed me up for everything he could think of. And dancing was one of them.”
“What else did he sign you up for?”
I knew that Jax was just trying to distract me. And honestly, I was happy for the distraction.
“There was basketball, hockey, netball, soccer. I can play a lot of sports. There were all types of dancing classes.” I said.
“But, I bet he didn’t sign you up for any self defense.” Jax said and I started laughing.
“Hell no. That was never going to happen.” I said.
We stayed at the Ball for a couple of hours and we needed to pretend like I hadn’t done anything at all. And Lucas is the one that came and told us that it was time to go.
I was actually surprised that he remembered that we were even here. I hadn’t seen him or Harry all night. It was strange. They never like leaving me out of their sight and tonight I didn’t know where they were most of the time.
So we said goodbye to William and Melissa and we got into the waiting limousine and we left the mansion.
I sat next to Jax on the back chair and I looked out the window the whole time without saying anything to anyone.
I had a lot to try and process here and I wasn’t sure how the hell I was meant to be feeling right now. So I just chose to shut up and not say a damn thing.
