CHAPTER 23

I sat there staring at Lucas and I finally understood their intentions. I am such an idiot. How could I not have seen it? How could I have been so stupid to think that they actually wanted to help me.
They think of me as their possession.
“What’s wrong?” Lucas asked, confused.
“I am such an idiot. You guys are no better than my dad’s friends. You have no interest in protecting me. You just want one thing. Madison always calls me a slut and you thought it was true. That’s all you fucking care about. I can’t believe I actually believed you when you said that you wanted to help me. Well, I don’t want your help. Just leave me alone.” I said, standing up. But Lucas jumped up and came around to me as well. He tried to stop me from leaving but I pulled my arm out of his hands and I left the cafeteria without looking back at them.

HARRY’S POV

We all stood there in shock as Skylar disappeared from the cafeteria but no one more than Lucas. He knew what he did wrong and so did we. We didn’t need to give him a hard time about it. He didn’t mean it the way that he said it. But we’re always telling him to think before he speaks. I don’t think she was ready to hear us refer to her like that. For all we know, that’s what those bastards used to call her when they were assaulting her. We need to be more careful with what we say around her until we know a lot more about what she’s been through.
“I can’t believe I fucking did that.” Lucas said, sitting in the chair and dropping his head into his hands.
“We’ll wait for her after school and we’ll talk to her then. She needs time to calm down.” Jax said.
“What if she tries to go back home before then?” Lucas asked, almost panicked.
“She’s not an idiot. She thinks she is, but she’s not that stupid. She’ll never go back to that house.” Jax assured Lucas.
The afternoon classes dragged out for all three of us and we didn’t see Skylar in any of the classes. That was weird because she was in all of our classes.
When the last bell rang we were practically the first people out the front of the school waiting for Skylar to come out and Lucas was more anxious than any of us.
We kept waiting for her to appear but she was nowhere to be seen. Something didn’t feel right about this. She wouldn’t have gone home to our place. And she definitely wouldn’t have gone to her dad’s house. Not to that closet that she slept in.
I then saw Madison walking out with her entourage and she looked at us with a smug look on her face and instantly I knew that she was up to something.
“I know. Skylar didn’t stand a chance.” Grace said to Madison as they all started giggling.
So I stepped in front of them and stopped them from walking any further with a cold and very mean expression on my face.
“Where’s Skylar?” I demanded. She looked over her shoulder at her friends and then looked back at me with a fake innocent smile on her face.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She said.
Suddenly I started seeing red. I knew that she was lying to me and she had done something to Skylar. That’s why we hadn’t seen her all afternoon. I stared her directly in the eye and demanded to know again, but she again pretended not to know. So I grabbed her around the throat so hard that she was gasping for air.
“Don’t make me ask you again.” I said through gritted teeth. My anger getting the better of me.
Jax and Lucas stood back with their arms folded and watched the whole thing unfold without trying to help her at all. Why would they? They knew what my temper was like and they knew what I would do to someone who hurt another person that I cared about.
“We…locked her…in…the basement.” Madison sputtered out while gasping for air.
I dropped Madison and ran back up the stairs of school and into the building with Jax and Lucas on my heels.
It took us a little bit but we finally found the door to the basement and it was locked. So Lucas grabbed a little kit out of his bag to pick the lock and he pushed it open and we all ran down the stairs.
We looked everywhere until we found Skylar tied to a pole with chains at the back of the basement with her clothes all torn and something was shoved in her mouth with tape over it.
We ran straight to her and I could even feel the anger radiating off of Jax and Lucas.
I looked at the chains that were wrapped around her and I started looking around the basement for something to get it off her.
Jax pulled the tape off of her mouth and pulled a dirty old rag out of her mouth and I finally found a handsaw.
The others had to help me get Skylar’s arm out of the way because I couldn’t get behind her since there was a brick wall there that the pipe was up against and it was going to be really delicate trying to get this off of her.
“Alright. Skylar, look at me.” I said. So she turned her head to look at me. “You need to trust me. These guys are going to hold your arms up and I am going to cut through the chain. It’s going to be loud but I am not going to hurt you. I promise.” I assured her. She nodded her head at me, but then Jax got her to look back at him.
