CHAPTER 51

As we were all standing there chatting about our situation and the whole night in general I grabbed my phone out again while we were still in that abandoned parking lot in the middle of the night and I called a number.
“Hello.” A guy answered.
“I need you to track down phone records for me. Grace and Joseph Michaels. We need to know if they have been in contact with Skylar’s dad.” I said.
“When do you need this by?” He asked.
“Yesterday.” I said, hanging up.
“Alright. That’s the first step. But what about Madison?” Jax asked.
“They’ll be next if nothing turns up on Grace and her dad.” I said. We stood there thinking about it for a bit and the more we thought about it, the more it was starting to make sense.
“Grace is ruthless. I mean, everyone thinks that Madison is always behind everything. But that’s not true. Grace is just the silent partner. That bitch knows how to play the game. And Madison is the one left looking like the bitch while Grace just looks like a follower.” Jax explained.
Joseph Michaels would have easily found out all about Skylar from Grace. And he’s the one that keeps refusing to deal with my father. He’s the one that we are constantly having to deal with because he’s not cooperating. But if he’s helping Skylar’s dad, then that makes perfect sense.
He wouldn’t want to deal with us because Skylar’s dad would kill him if he even thought about it.
I can’t believe they would go to these sorts of lengths though just because we aren’t interested in their daughter and we made sure that she stopped bullying Skylar.
It all seems like schoolyard bullshit to me and nothing that would warrant such severe actions.
Why would he want to retaliate so much against a teenage girl to the point where she could end up dead? That’s just pathetic and sadistic.
“Joseph might be unwilling to cooperate with us and William but he also doesn’t have the guts to openly confront William himself. So he hired a bunch of guys to do it for him.” Harry said.
“That’s exactly what I was thinking.” I said.
As I was sitting there running through the whole night’s events in my head I heard Skylar start to make a noise and she started moving her head around from side to side.
“Hey, are you alright?” I asked, leaning forward and resting my arms on her bed.
“My head hurts.” She mumbled out.
“Yeah. You’ve got a concussion. But nothing too serious. You scared the hell out of me.” Lucas said.
“I’m sorry.” She said.
“I know it wasn’t your fault. Jax and Harry told me everything that you did to save yourself. I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder.” I said. And she smiled at me.
I grabbed her hand and I could tell that she was still really cold so I got her to move over on the bed and I laid next to her.
I wrapped the blankets around her tightly and I pulled her close to me so I could help warm up a bit and she snuggled into my chest with her arms in front of her.
“You know I hate seeing you in danger. I’m just glad that you’re not badly hurt this time.” I said.
“I know. And I love that you care so much. I did know what I was doing when I drove into the lake. But I do appreciate how much you care. Thank you.” She said, snuggling closer to me. “I was worried about you when they said that you went after those men.” She added.
She looked up at me and I leaned down and kissed her.
Harry and Jax then walked into the room and stopped just inside the doorway when they saw me on the bed with Skylar.
“She’s freezing cold.” I said.
“Oh. So, you’re just trying to warm her up.” Jax chuckled.
“And I don’t mind at all.” Skylar said. So I smirked at Jax.
They both walked in and grabbed a seat on either side of the bed. Their expressions had gone from playful when they saw us to very serious now that Skylar couldn’t see them. One was sitting behind her because she was on her side and the other was behind me. So she couldn’t see him over me.
“I’m really happy you guys are here. When I heard that gun go off, I thought that bastard had shot Jax. I couldn’t see.” Skylar said, feeling a little hesitant as she said it.
She then turned to look at Jax who was sitting behind her and then leaned up to look at Harry who was behind me.
They both looked really serious and she picked up on it when they didn’t say anything.
“What’s wrong?” She asked.
“You might want to brace yourself.” Jax said. And she managed to sit up on the bed but I helped her and made sure that she was stable as she was sitting up.
“Tell me.” She said.
But they both just looked at each other and then at me. I knew that they had some news, but they weren’t willing to actually say it out loud.
A doctor then walked into the room and saw us three sitting around her and I was on the bed with her.
“You should be laying down. You got a nasty concussion.” He said.
“I’m fine.” Skylar said, looking around at everyone in the room.
I could actually feel her heart rate starting to pick up as she could feel the tension in the room, even from the doctor. He was looking at Harry and Jax before Jax nodded to the doctor and he stepped forward towards the bed.
“I’m not sure how much you know but the rescue services were able to get your father out of the car. They brought him to the hospital, but against everyone’s best efforts, I’m afraid he didn’t make it.” The doctor announced.
And she looked around to see if this was some kind of sick joke or something.
But Jax reached over and took her hand and the look on his face said everything.
