CHAPTER 85
Friday was the night of the Ball so we had to come straight home after school and it was going to take me the longest to get ready.
So I had a shower early and I pulled up another tutorial on how to do my hair in a different style.
Once that was done I did my makeup, just like that lady at the shop showed me and I blended it all together and I sat there wearing my dressing gown while looking at myself in the mirror.
I honestly didn’t know what to think right now. It didn’t look like me. I looked like something you would see in a magazine. I didn’t believe that I was staring back at myself.
I snapped out of the daze that I was in and I got up and walked over to the wardrobe to a formal dress that was hanging up just inside the door.
I got dressed in the red velvet low cut floor length gown with thin straps and no detailing on it at all except for the thigh high slit it had up the left side and the gold strappy high heels that I put on with it.
I then added my earrings, necklace and bracelets.
I grabbed my clutch and I walked out of the bedroom and towards the stairs.
I could hear the guys waiting for me downstairs and I took a deep breath and I started walking down the stairs.
The guys turned around to look at me and they all just stared at me with their mouths slightly open.
“What?” I asked.
“Nothing.” Harry said, still not moving.
“You look beautiful.” Lucas said.
“More than beautiful.” Jax said.
I could feel the heat rushing to my face as the embarrassment of them staring at me was starting to get to me.
But they soon snapped out of it and Harry opened the door.
He grabbed my black jacket for me and put it over my shoulders and when I walked outside I saw a stretch limousine waiting for us.
“Seriously?” I asked.
“Dad sent it for us. He didn’t want us showing up in any of our muscle cars.” Lucas said.
“Of course not. That would be too embarrassing.” I scoffed.
We got in the limousine and it drove us to the other side of town where the really rich people lived.
We drove through a large cast iron gate and had to pass a lot of security checks before we even got to the front door.
The driver got out and opened the door for us and Lucas was the first one to get out. After that it was Harry.
Harry held his hand out for me so I grabbed onto it and he helped me out of the car so I was tripping on my dress and Jax got out last.
I was looking around at all of the really rich and glamorous people that were going inside the mansion and I took a deep breath before we started walking in.
“Are you alright?” Lucas asked, looping his arm around mine.
“Yeah. I’ve just never been to anything so fancy before.” I said.
“I know. They’re just a bunch of rich arrogant snobs. Just remember that. You’re better than them. Are you ready for everything else?”
“Yeah. It’s all set.”
So we walked inside the mansion and William was standing at the front door with a taller red headed woman wearing the most elegant and revealing dress and the most diamonds of any other woman, standing beside him.
“Skylar. I don’t believe you’ve met my wife, Melissa.” William said.
“No. I don’t believe I have.” I said.
“So, you’re the girl that’s staying with these three boys. Well, I can definitely see the appeal now.” She said, looking me up and down.
I looked at Lucas with a really serious look on my face and I didn’t have to say anything for him to know what I was thinking.
“Whatever my father has told you, it’s probably a lie. So, don’t even bother trying that shit here.” Lucas said.
I couldn’t believe that she was so brazen to say that in front of so many of their rich and powerful friends. Wouldn’t that be something that they would want to keep to themselves so it didn’t embarrass them?
I guess she didn’t really care about stuff like that.
We walked past them and down the hall towards the ballroom and as soon as we went inside, I noticed a lot of people staring at us.
“I guess they didn’t expect you guys to be here either.” I said.
“They knew we were going to be here. They’re all looking at you.” Harry said.
“Why?” I asked.
“Because you’re beautiful.” He said. But I just shook my head.
There’s no way they were looking at me because they thought I was beautiful. If anything it was probably just the dress and makeup. None of it was real.
We made our way over to the side of the room and we grabbed a glass of champagne each and I looked around the room to make sure that there was no one here that I recognised.
I didn’t want to be running into any of my dad’s old friends or anything like that.
“Hello Skylar.” Someone said, walking up to us. So I turned around quickly to see Uncle Kayden there.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, a little shocked.
“I’m here representing the company.” He said.
“Right. Dad left you everything in his Will. I’m not surprised.”
“Well, we all know how he felt about you.” Kayden said, getting another glass of champagne.
“Isn’t there someone else you can be talking to?” I asked.
“Well, how would it look if I didn’t come over and talk to my niece? That would get people really talking.”
“No one here even knows who the hell I am.”
“I guess you’re right. I should probably go mingle. Have fun tonight.” He said, walking off.
For some reason, I always get the feeling that Uncle Kayden is up to something. He gives me the creeps to be around and there always seems to be an ulterior motive with him. Always.
“How long do I need to show my face for?” I asked.
“Just a little longer. And then we’ll make sure that dad doesn’t ask where you are.” Lucas said.
But just as we were trying to get everything straight I saw Lucas looking over my shoulder at something. So I turned around and there was another woman about my age walking towards us in an equally elegant gown and a wicked smile on her face.
“Hello Lucas.” She said, completely ignoring me and almost pushing me out of the way.
“What the hell are you doing here Nancy?” Lucas asked.
I looked at Harry and Jax and they looked pissed to see this woman here. But Lucas just looked confused. I didn’t know who she was and she was never mentioned to me. So I was pretty confused as well.
