CHAPTER 64

I was laying on Skylar’s bed next to her when I heard Harry and Lucas come back.
They’d been gone for hours to dispose of the body, but I knew that no one would ever find it.
They came upstairs and Skylar was still awake so I didn’t want to leave her. She was pretty shaken up from tonight and they opened her door and saw us laying on her bed.
She had her back to me, staring at the wall and I looked at the guys.
“Skylar. Are you alright?” Lucas asked, kneeling down in front of her.
“Don’t bother. She hasn’t said anything for hours. She’s just been staring at the wall.” I said.
“She’s in shock.” Harry said.
“It’s more than that. She said something about her father tonight.” I said.
They both looked at me confused but I didn’t want to talk about it in front of her. I wasn’t sure if she was even listening to us or not. But I gestured for us to go outside to the hallway and we closed her bedroom door.
“What did she say?” Harry asked.
“She said that her father used to kill people to keep her in line. He used to make her watch.” I said.
“Do you believe that?” Lucas asked.
“Yeah. Looking back, I do believe it.” I said.
I could tell that none of us really knew how to process that but getting to know her what her father is capable of and when he tried to kidnap her, none of us were really surprised.
“No wonder she freaked out when she saw his body.” Harry said.
“Yeah. And she is in shock. I think it’s just brought back bad memories. We need to be careful here. We don’t know how deep this goes.” I said.
We went back into the bedroom and Skylar hadn’t moved an inch.
She was still awake, but staring at the wall and not moving.
At times it didn’t even look like she was breathing so we’d check on her, but she definitely wasn’t alright.
The following morning when I woke up I looked over and Skylar was gone. Harry and Lucas were still asleep but she wasn’t. So I jumped up out of bed and I started looked in the bathroom and the wardrobe.
“What’s going on?” Harry asked, barely opening his eyes.
“Skylar’s gone.” I said.
Immediately the other two were on their feet as well and we ran out of her room and checked every room on the top floor before we went downstairs and checked every room downstairs as well.
There was no sign of her.
But when I stopped at the backdoor, I saw the training room door was open at the end of our yard. So I walked outside and headed down to the training room.
Skylar was inside using the punching bag. Punching it over and over and over again. She wasn’t resting, she wasn’t training. She was letting out her anger.
I stood at the door watching because she had her back to me, but Lucas and Harry walked down towards me and they saw what she was doing as well.
It looks like she’s been going at it for a while. There’s sweat all the way down her back and she doesn’t look like she’s planning on stopping.
Just as she started looking exhausted, she stumbled a little bit but then she looked at the bag again and kept going. No matter how exhausted she was, she kept using whatever strength she had left to make a difference against the punching bag.
“That’s enough.” Harry said, walking into the room.
He walked up behind Skylar but he announced that he was there before he grabbed her and pulled her away from the punching bag.
She tried to push him away and get back to the bag but he wouldn’t let her go, no matter how much she struggled.
Harry tried to get her out of the room, but that’s when she broke down.
He was fighting against her, not trying to hurt her, but to stop her from hurting herself.
He lost his grip on Skylar and she fell to the ground and that’s when we realized how much she was crying.
She’d kept her back to us this whole time, we didn’t know that she was crying. We didn’t know it was that sort of pain that was causing her to keep powering through when she wanted to stop punching.
Harry knelt down beside her and pulled her to his chest, letting her get it all out.
Lucas and I walked into the room and sat on the floor next to them and I could see Lucas’ heart breaking just seeing her like this.
None of us liked seeing it, but she obviously had a lot more pain than we realized.
She looked like she was starting to get a lot better. But now, I’m starting to think that we got it all wrong. She was put through so much crap in her life that she hasn’t even mentioned. She’s just been keeping it all to herself and it’s killing her.
Harry eventually got her to her feet and took her inside.
They went up to her room and we heard Harry taking care of her.
She was going to have a shower and while I was in the hallway Jax walked out.
“She’s in the shower. I think she might need to talk to someone about this. About everything.” Harry said. But I shook my head.
“She’ll never do that. Not with her father’s influence.” I said.
“Her father’s dead.” Lucas said.
“He’s got a lot of friends in town. As soon as one of them hears that she’s talking about all of his dirty little secrets, then they will be coming after her. And she knows it.” I said.
“We know people that we can trust.” Lucas said.
“She doesn’t have any friends. No female friends. All she has is us. What about Alora?” Harry asked.
“The same girl that you asked to teach Grace a lesson?” I asked.
“Yeah. Maybe Skylar would be better off talking to another girl.” Harry said.
“That’s never gonna work.” Lucas said.
“Not a chance.” I said.
“Why the hell not? What am I missing?” Harry asked.
Wow, this guy is really clueless. I can’t believe that he hasn’t seen the signs yet. But I looked at Lucas and neither of us really wanted to tell him the truth.
“What?” Harry asked.
“She’s not gonna be of any help because Alora is in love with you.” Lucas finally said.
“We don’t know if she will be good for Skylar or if she will try and get rid of her.” I said. But Harry stood there looking at us stunned.
He really didn’t know what to say and he actually started looking at us like we were crazy.
“She’s never said anything.” Harry said.
“Because you treat her like a sister. And if she knows about Skylar and the way you feel about her. The way we all feel about Skylar, I really don’t think she’s gonna be happy. And she trained with us. Which means, I’m not leaving her alone with Skylar.” I said.
Harry just shook his head, still not believing us about Alora. They don’t talk that much but whenever he does call and asks her to do something then she jumps at the chance. Even if she’s in the middle of something.
When Skylar finally came out I hugged her and kissed her on the forehead and we took her downstairs to the dining room and sat her down while I went to the kitchen.
Lucas sat next to her while he was holding her hand on the table. But she still hasn’t said much.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry about last night and this morning. I didn’t mean to do that.” I said.
“I’ve told you that you never need to apologize. You are who you are.” Lucas said.
“I am who my father made me.” Skylar said.
I looked at Harry who was standing next to me and we realized what she meant by that.
She didn’t feel like herself.
She feels like the person that her father turned her into.
“She doesn’t even know who she is.” Harry whispered.
“Well, I guess we’re gonna have to help her find out who she is.” I said.
“How the hell are we going to do that?”
“I don’t know. We try both ends of the spectrum. Expensive restaurants and then take out food. The theater and then take her to the movies. We’ll see what she prefers.” I explained. And he nodded his head.
I think he agreed with that solution.
We had to do something because there’s no way she could keep going the way that she was going.
We hated seeing her like this and we wanted to help. We needed to help her find herself.
