CHAPTER 98

SKYLAR POV

When the calls kept getting ignored I was starting to think that I was never going to get saved. But hearing Jax’s voice on the other end of the phone, it was practically music to my ears.
“Skylar. Don’t hang up. We’re going to find you.” Jax assured me.
“You can’t. It’s a burner phone.” I said.
“Can you tell me where you are?” He asked. And I turned to look at the window and the forest outside. But then I looked at the cupboard on the other side of the room.
“I think I’m in one of my dad’s houses.” I said.
“What? Why do you think that?” Harry asked.
“Because of the cupboard. It’s got holes in it. I don’t remember ever being here. But I know what it looks like. The cupboard had a padlock on it at some point. Bentley must have taken it off.” I said.
“Bentley?” Lucas asked.
I heard them all go really quiet after that. They were probably trying to remember where they knew that name from.
I can understand that they would be a little confused.
“Have I lost you?” I asked.
“No. Baby, we’re still here.” Jax said.
“Is there anything else you can tell me about where you are?” Lucas asked.
“There’s a forest outside my window. That’s all I can see. I’m chained to the wall. I took this phone off of Madison after I choked her out with the chain.” I said.
“That’s my girl.” Harry said, proudly.
“Lucas is looking for all of the properties in your dad’s name.” Jax said.
“I don’t know if this would be in his name. When he died, everything went to his brother.” I said.
“It’s alright. We’re checking his name as well. Plus the company and any offshore accounts that might lead us to the house.” Lucas said.
Bentley started knocking on the door telling Madison to open it up.
When Madison didn’t answer and I stopped talking, he started banging on the door even harder.
“You guys have to hurry. He’s coming back in.” I said.
“Who is this guy? We don’t know him.” Harry said.
“That new kid at school that wanted me to help him with his assignments.” I said.
“That little son of a bitch. He’s behind this?” Lucas asked.
“So is Nancy and Alora. They’re all here.” I said.
It went quiet again. But this time for a completely different reason. I knew that they were seething right now, knowing that these women were the reason I was kidnapped.
I was afraid that they thought I ran away. But it really didn’t sound like it. They sounded like they had been trying to find me.
They knew that I didn’t leave on my own and that’s all I had to be grateful for right now.
I heard Bentley run downstairs and then come back up again.
Keys were jiggling on the other side of the door so I had to quickly hide the phone under the bed and I stood up next to the window.
Bentley barged in with Nancy and Alora and they saw Madison on the ground.
Alora ran over to her and pulled her away from me.
“See Bentley, in case you didn’t know, that’s how you choke someone out with a chain.” I said.
“Well, I’ll have to remember that for next time. Did she hurt you?” He asked.
“She didn’t get the chance.” I said.
“Why would you do this?” Nancy yelled, barging across the room and slapping me across the face.
“Is that all you’ve got?” I asked.
She tried to hit me again but Bentley grabbed her around the waist and pulled her out.
They went to the doorway and Bentley abused Nancy for hitting me and then slammed the door in their faces.
All the girls were out in the hallway and Bentley stayed in the room with me.
“I’m sorry. She shouldn’t have hit you.” Bentley said.
“Just let me go Bentley. As soon as the guys figure out where I am, they’re going to kill you.” I said.
“They are never going to find this place.” He said.
“Why? Because they wouldn’t think to look in one of my dad’s old houses?” I asked.
Bentley looked at me, confused. He looked around the room and there was nothing in it but a bed.
“How the hell do you know that?” He asked.
“The cupboard. It used to have a padlock on it.” I said.
“Yeah. I never knew why that was there.”
“It was to lock me in it. If he ever brought me here.”
“Your dad used to lock you up?” He asked.
“Yeah. Just like you’re doing. I guess you’re not better than that abusive bastard afterall.” I said.
“I’m doing this to keep you safe. What the hell don’t you understand about that?” He yelled, sitting on the bed.
I didn’t go near him. I knew that he thought he was keeping me safe from the guys, but there was nothing to save me from.
The guys would never hurt me. Not intentionally.
I turned to look out the window and I inhaled the fresh air that was coming in.
“Skylar. Why is it so hard for you to believe that I love you?” He asked.
“Because this isn’t love. Locking someone up in a bedroom with a chain isn’t love.” I said.
“I am doing that because you think you are safer back in the city.”
“That’s because I am.”
“I managed to sneak into your room and kidnap you. They didn’t even know. What sort of mercenaries are they if they don’t even know that there’s an intruder in their own house?” He asked.
“You don’t know shit about them Bentley.” I said.
“Alora told me everything. She trained with them. She knows them. And she knows William. You are in danger in that house.”
He wasn’t going to stop until he convinced me that I would be better off with him. But I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t admit that because I knew that it wasn’t true.
Besides, it’s not his decision. He was keeping me here against my will and chaining me up.
I wanted to go home. I wanted to see the guys. I wanted to go back to my own room.
But Bentley stood up behind me and took in a deep breath.
“Well, get used to it here. I’m not taking those chains off until I am sure that you’re never going to run away. You’re going to be here for a really long time.” Bentley said.
I turned to look at him, but he was walking to the door.
The door opened just before he got to it and I spun around quickly to see Jax standing there holding a gun pointed at Bentley.
