CHAPTER 31
SKYLAR’S POV
When we got back to the cafeteria, I sat back at the table with the guys and Harry was right behind me. Jax and Lucas were both looking at us strangely, but they didn’t ask us what happened or anything like that.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they already knew. They knew everything about each other already and I was just trying not to blush thinking about it. I didn’t want them to know. Even if it is perfectly normal and he did finally open up to me like he never had before. I still didn’t want to talk about it with Jax and Lucas.
They were the last people I was going to talk to.
I started nibbling on my lunch and I was looking around the room, noticing all the people still looking at us.
I know that sitting here with these three guys would probably be everything that these girls would ever want, and they would kill me just to get me out of the way.
But it was a little different for me. I wasn’t used to all the attention. Not just from everyone else around the school, but from the guys as well. I mean, not this kind of attention. It’s always been negative. And I’m sure every girl in this room is thinking very negative thoughts about me right now. But they weren’t game enough to act on it. Not with the guys around.
I guess I was still trying to adjust to all the changes that have happened recently. There’s too many to count and it all happened so quickly.
We hung around town for a while that afternoon because the guys insisted on taking me shopping and letting me buy whatever I wanted. Clothes, electronics, anything. I didn’t want them to but they refused to take me home until I started picking out things that I wanted.
So I got a few things before I finally told them that I was ready to go home.
We ended up stopping to get dinner first and on the drive home, I could see the guys looking at me. They were all keeping an eye on me because I had been pretty quiet during dinner and on the ride home.
I was just staring out the window and not saying much at all. Not until we got home.
“I better go and unpack these things.” I said, racing upstairs really quickly and I went into my room and I closed the door.
I put the bags of my new things on the bed and I walked over to the window and opened it up so I could get some fresh air before I heard the door open behind me.
“Skylar. What’s going on?” Lucas asked.
“What do you mean?” I asked, not even turning around to look at him.
“I mean, you’ve been pretty quiet tonight. You were alright when we were shopping.” He said.
“Yeah. Until you saw someone outside the window of the restaurant.” Harry said.
Damn. I was hoping they didn’t see that. I didn’t want them to kill the guy.
“He just looked familiar.” I said. And I heard the door close but I knew that they were all still inside.
“One of your dad’s friends.” Jax said.
“Yeah.” I said, finally turning around to look at them. “Listen, there’s some stuff that I haven’t told you about and I don’t know how you’re going to react when I do tell you.” I said.
I knew I had all of their attention after that, especially with the worried look on my face. But they stayed in my room and they were ready to hear what I was going to say.
“I hoped that dad would be going to prison so I wouldn’t have to deal with this. But it looks like he’s going to get away with it and I don’t know why I’m surprised. But, I had a nightmare about this the other night. Not about his friends. It’s something else…when I was younger my dad made a deal with some guy. I don’t know who he is. The deal included me. I don’t know all of the details but I know that it wouldn’t have been a good deal.
I was hoping that if dad went to jail then the deal would be off, but now I don’t know what’s going to happen. And I don’t know if this other guy is going to come for me.
I don’t want to get you involved. I really don’t want you guys getting hurt because of me. And I don’t want you guys to bear the responsibility for me about this. You will get hurt.
I’ll leave if that’s easier. For your sake.” I insisted.
“No.” Harry said, maliciously.
I looked over at him and his face had completely changed to utter disgust and anger.
“You’re not fucking going anywhere. And if anyone comes here and tries to take you from us. We’ll kill those bastards ourselves.” Harry insisted, his voice deep and very menacing. I had never seen him like that before. He didn’t scare me, but he showed me how far he was willing to go to protect me.
“Harry. My life has never belonged to me. I accepted that a long time ago.” I said.
“I said no.” He yelled, pushing off from the wall that he’d been leaning on. I jumped at his sudden outburst and I must have shown a little fear on my face because I saw Lucas take a step forward.
“Ever since you guys came along, everything feels so different now. I don’t know what the hell to think anymore.” I said.
He looked like he was going to say something else but he just turned around and left the room. Slamming the door behind him.
I jumped again with the door slamming and Lucas looked back at me. Jax walked over to me and he cupped my face with his hands.
“We’re never going to let you go. We can’t lose you.” Jax said. I could see Lucas over Jax’s shoulder and he looked like he was in complete agreement.
“I really want to stay here with you guys as well.
Jax pulled me in close for a hug and I felt Lucas come up the side of us and he wiped a lone tear away from my cheek that had escaped my eye.
Jax leaned back slightly, staring at me in the face and he slowly leaned down and kissed me gently on the lips.
I felt Lucas start kissing my neck, causing me to temple under the intimacy that I definitely wasn’t used to.
But as soon as I started kissing Jax back I started getting flashes of men running through my head. And me lying on the bathroom floor of dad’s house. Even being pushed onto my bed by one of his friends.
I stiffened all of a sudden and stopped kissing Jax and I put my hands on his chest as my heart started beating really fast like it was going to burst out of my chest and I started breathing really heavily.
Jax noticed the panic attack straight away and he pulled me close to him and hugged me.
I could hear his heart beating at a normal slow pace which was soothing.
“It’s alright Skylar. You know that you’re safe here.” Jax said.
“We will never do anything to hurt you. And we aren’t going to do anything that you don’t want to do.” Lucas said. And I nodded my head stiffly.
Jax helped me get to my bed and he laid down next to me so he could pull me over and rest my head on his chest. Lucas laid on the other side of me and started rubbing my back, helping me calm down.
I could feel more tears threatening to escape my eyes, but I was trying really hard to hold them back.
I didn’t know how long we had been laying there, but I eventually fell asleep in their arms.
