CHAPTER 38
We knew that our little bubble in the office couldn’t last forever.
We had to finish the design of the dagger and Harry was getting really excited about it. Putting a few more little details onto it that he hadn’t thought of before. But he added at the last second.
I had been sitting on the chair next to him again while he was designing it, but he kept looking at me out of the corner of his eye with a funny little smirk on his face. So he grabbed me around the waist and lifted me off the chair and pulled me onto his lap. He leaned me to one side, but his arms were around either side of me while he was working on the design of the dagger.
I was watching everything he was doing and he added a little inscription on the handle of the dagger in a different language. It looked Greek, but I wasn’t too sure.
“What’s that?” I asked, pointing it out.
“It’s a line from a poem I once read. It sounds a lot better in Greek so it’s going to be written on the dagger in Greek. It’s about freedom and strength.” Harry explained.
I was so touched by his words and what he thought of me. I never thought of myself as strong or having any freedom. Maybe this dagger that Harry has designed for me will give me both.
But right then, I remember my mother once telling me to find a world that truly belonged to me. Not to settle for anything. To find somewhere that I belonged. And I think I’ve done that.
I turned back to look at Harry who looked a little surprise by the look on my face and I leaned over and kissed him. Not like before. Mostly expressing my gratitude and affection for what he was doing for me. For the way that he obviously saw me, but I didn’t see myself.
It’s exactly what I wanted. So I grabbed the sketch off the desk and I jumped up excitedly. Harry sat in the chair watching me with a wide smile on his face.
“How do we get this made into something real now?” I asked.
“Come on. We’ll take it to the shop where I get them all made.” He said, standing up as well and grabbing the car keys.
I grabbed Harry’s hand and we walked out of the office and we saw Lucas and Jax on the other side of the room.
They both stopped and looked up at us when they saw us, both with grins on their faces as they saw us holding hands.
I waved to them as we were headed for the exit and they waved back, but they didn’t stop us and ask what we were doing or anything. They just let us go.
I believed that this was just a moment for Harry and I. Starting a new chapter in our relationship. One that I was excited about and eager to see what was going to happen.
So we went outside and got in the car and Harry started driving down the road.
I didn’t know where this place was where he took the knives to get made, but I was just enjoying the ride.
He reached over and grabbed my hand while I was in the passenger seat so I looked over at him and he had his eyes on the road but he had a little grin on his face. So I turned to look out the window again.
We seemed to drive around for ages, without reaching out destination and I was starting to get the feeling that Harry was doing that on purpose.
He finally pulled up in a car park, but it definitely wasn’t at a shop that made knives. We were sitting outside the forest where there were some really awesome hiking trails, just out of the city.
“What are we doing here?” I asked.
“I just wanted to show you something first.” Harry said. So we both got out of the car and I left the sketch of the dagger in the front seat.
He locked the car and walked around to my side where he grabbed my hand and we started walking towards the forest.
It looked pretty dense and not much sunlight could come through there, but there was a definite trail right in the middle. We couldn’t get lost in there because if we wandered off the trail then we would be running into trees. And when we got far enough into the woods I stopped walking in the middle of the trail.
“I knew it. It was too good to be true.” I said, throwing my arms up in exacerbation.
“What are you talking about?” Harry asked, confused.
“You brought me out here to kill me.” I said. But he started laughing and he grabbed my hand and pulled me to his side as we kept walking through the trail.
It took us a little bit to get there but when we finally came out of the other end of the forest, I stopped as soon as I saw the lookout that he was bringing me to.
There was a massive cliff up in the distance with a railing all around it and Harry stopped to look back at me while I was looking out around us.
We slowly walked up to the railing and Harry stood behind me with his arms around me and holding onto the rail.
I looked straight down where there was more forest below us, but looking straight out I could see the whole city from here.
“It’s beautiful.” I said.
“I’ll bring you here at night some time. That’s when it’s really beautiful.” Harry said, kissing my neck causing me to get a chill down my spine. But he just chuckled.
“How did you find this place?” I asked.
“My parents and I used to go camping all the time. It was something that we loved to do together so we pretty much know where all the trails are around here.” He explained. And I nodded my head, still taking in this gorgeous scenery.
“Will you take me camping one time?” I asked before realizing that I asked it.
“Of course I will. Just tell me when.” He said.
We did see a couple of other people on the trail but not too many. There were a few that were just hanging around there, but Harry didn’t seem too worried about them. No matter how much they were watching us.
We stayed there for a while before we knew that we had to leave before the knife shop closed and he really wanted to get my order in today.
So we started walking down the trail towards the car when I saw Harry looking behind us at one point.
I turned to see that those same people from the cliffside were slowly walking behind us. They were back about 30 feet, but they were obviously following us.
“What’s going on? Do you know them?” I asked.
“No. But I know what they want.” He said.
“What?” I asked.
“Me. Out of the road.” He said. And I tightened my grip on Harry as my breathing started to speed up and my heart started pounding. But he put his arm around me.
“Don’t do that. They aren’t getting anywhere near you. Trust me.” He said.
So we kept walking and I couldn’t help but try to walk fast. Trying to get out of the situation.
The whole time, my dad’s head was flashing in my mind. Thinking that he had sent them after me. Which made it even more terrifying for me.
We made it back to the car without incident but as soon as we got in, I locked my door to make sure. Because I saw those guys come out of the forest and hang around by the treeline while we were still sitting there.
