CHAPTER 53

HARRY’S POV

It’s been a full month since the accident and even though Skylar was only in hospital for a couple of days, we have been worried about her ever since she came home.
She started to withdraw a lot from everything. She wasn’t eating much, she wasn’t sleeping and she was really having a hard time with it all.
I know that she felt guilty about what happened to her father, but honestly, it couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
We’ve been doing a lot of research into her father since then and we have found out a lot that I really wish we hadn’t. There’s a lot in his past that we have a feeling Skylar already knew about. Mostly about the amount of people that have gone missing. Skylar probably knows what happened, but no one else does.
That worried us a little when we found all that out.
But then Skylar, being his only heir, has to plan his funeral.
She’s been through a lot and I can only imagine what is going through her head right now.
We let her teachers know about the accident and losing her father so her teachers have been sending her all of her assignments and everything through the email and she’s been busy keeping up with her school work.
She was shutting us out for a long time after she got home but then we made her realize that she had to stop doing that. We didn’t think any less of her and we were never going to judge her for anything that she did. I mean, we were the last ones to judge anyone else for what they do.
But she has been slowly improving and now she wants to go back to school.
None of us were really sure if that was a good idea. We’re still worried about her mental health and state of mind, but she’s been assuring us that she’s fine. She needs to get out of the house and start concentrating on something other than that man.
The police have closed the case and aren’t pursuing it as anything more than an accident.
“We have to go to the funeral home today.” Skylar said as we were driving to school. I was driving the car and Jax was next to me while Lucas was sitting in the back with her.
She didn’t seem fazed by it at the moment. She’s going through her bag to make sure she has everything for school and talks about it like it’s nothing.
We’re afraid that she’s holding everything in and then she’s just going to lose control. And we know that she’s tried suicide before, so that was a bit scary for us.
But I do understand her wanting everything to get back to normal. Before her father attacked us and almost killed her and Jax.
But I know that things are far from settled, especially after hearing that Grace has now returned back to school. Which means her and Madison are back together and that’s only going to be bad for Skylar.
We’ve agreed not to let her out of our sight this time. Not after what they did to her last time.
Lucas is actually convinced now that Grace’s father had nothing to do with helping Skylar’s dad. If he was going to do something like that then why would he send his daughter back to school with us.
But being in a place with such complex social relationships and power dynamics, I think it’s actually a smart move. And it’s probably the safest place for her. Because we can’t get to her when she’s surrounded by people who know all of us.
But Lucas was the one with the connections because he’s William’s son and he’s doing everything he can to find out who those men in black were and who hired them.
He’s positive that they were two separate groups that were hired and we trust him on that. He’s always good at detecting that sort of thing. So he told us to leave it with him and he’ll let us know when he needs us to do anything. Which we will gladly help in a heartbeat. I want these assholes to pay for what they’ve done.
Either way, nothing is conclusive yet and we’ve just agreed to give Skylar extra protection at school. Making sure that she’s always within our sight.
When we got to school and we all got out of the car, Skylar stood next to the car after she closed the door and looked around at everyone who was staring at us.
They probably thought that we weren’t coming back. But they definitely would have heard about Skylar’s accident.
Nothing stays a secret in high school. Rumors and stories spread like wildfires.
Jax and Lucas had classes on the other side of the school this morning so I was the one that was going to escort Skylar to her first class.
She didn’t like people at school to see all of us kiss her, so we respected that while we were at school.
She used to get bullied so badly here that we didn’t need everyone walking around calling her a tramp because of us three.
We don’t think that they know we all live together, but we’re keeping that part of our lives to ourselves. And we’re just acting as protectors. Almost like big brothers at school.
And it was killing all three of us. We didn’t care what people thought, but she definitely did.
I took Skylar to her locker where she got the books out that she needed for her first class and I grabbed her water bottle off of her to carry it and she just glanced at me sideways as we started walking down the hall.
“You know, you can chill out a bit. I think I’ll be fine here at school.” I said.
“Well, we thought you would be fine at the house as long as one of us were with you and look at how that turned out…I know that you think we’re being overprotective but can you please just humor us for now?” I asked. And she smirked at me as she looked away.
“I can handle myself a bit better at school now. And if anyone tries to kidnap me here, I’ve got all three of you in the same building. And there’s plenty of people around that I’m sure you’ll hear the noise.” She said.
She was right, but that wasn’t going to change anything with us.
But I have noticed that she’s become a little more reliant on me since the accident. When she stopped shutting us out she would come to find me to talk or even just to go for a walk around the neighborhood or our massive yard. She would ask me if I wanted to.
We would talk about a lot of stuff or sometimes we wouldn’t talk at all. She just didn’t want to be alone.
It was something pretty great for me. She was showing more affection towards me even though I haven’t been that affectionate towards her.
She would hold my hand without notice, which I didn’t care about, and just want to walk around like that.
I was actually feeling a mixture of sweetness and satisfaction that our relationship was going in the right direction. But I was also impressed by her growing strength.
As soon as we got to the classroom, she walked inside and I saw everyone watching her.
But she just ignored them as she went to her desk and sat down.
I turned to leave and I only made it a couple of steps before I saw a girl coming towards me. She had a cheeky smile on her face, her hair perfectly done and make up was caked on but perfectly done. And the outfit was way too revealing for school.
But as soon as I saw her, my face dropped. I wasn’t impressed one little bit.
“Grace.” I said through gritted teeth under my breath.
